Lizardfolk
Lizardfolk are a species of semi-aquatic, reptilian humanoids, native to Exorsia. They are a notoriously hostile and aggressive tribe based people, who are often in conflict with other mortal peoples, and have even been known to hunt and kill people that wander too close to their territory.
Lizardfolk aren't a very socially developed species, being one of the youngest mortal species of Exorsia. While they are capable of language, Lizardfolk tend to prefer primitive grunts and growls, only speaking when necessary.
While it is often believed that Lizardfolk are incapable of emotions, this is a falsehood, and seems to stems from the fact that Lizardfolk aren't usually a very expressive people, reacting only to emotions of fear, aggression, and pleasure. Their expressionless is often described as unnerving, particularly their cold, emotionless eyes.
While Lizardfolk are capable of learning to mimic expressions with enough contact with other people, this is an unlikely occurrence as Lizardfolk are rarely seen outside of their primal tribes.
Hunter Tribes
Lizardfolk are almost never seen outside of Lizardfolk tribes. These tribes are extremely territorial and aggressive to outsiders, and even to each other, with in fighting being a common occurrence, usually over food or just for dominance. The majority of the population are hunter gatherers, hunting both animals, primarily fish, and people indiscriminately. Lizardfolk are carnivores, and while they primarily feed on fish, they are known to eat the corpses of people that they kill, as well as their own dead.
Lizardfolk tribes are commonly located near lakes, or within swamps or marshland. Lizardfolk are extremely proficient swimmers, using their rudder-like crocodilian tails to propel themselves through the water at high speed. While not amphibious, Lizardfolk can hold their breaths for an extended period of time, allowing them to hide submerged underwater, ready to ambush unrespecting prey.
Lizardfolk tribes are often very nature and survival focused, with a close relationship to the land, with multiple accounts of Lizardfolk shamans wielding Primal Magic. Many Lizardfolk tribes also seem worship a small pantheon of nature orientated deities, which is believed to including aspects of Artemis, Demeter and Poseidon , but since they use different names for their deities, it's difficult to confirm. The head of their pantheon is usually a deity called Sessnek, which is believed to be an aspect of Artemis.
Lizardfolk tribes have been known to live and fight alongside local crocodiles and alligators, it is unknown whether these crocodilians are pets or more of a mutually beneficial partnership.
Lizardfolk tribes have also been known to ally themselves with Dragons. A mutually beneficial agreement as Lizardfolk usually have no interest in any form of treasure, or anything that isn't food, allowing the Dragon to claim the spoils of their joint conquests, while the Lizardfolk could feast on the Dragons victims.
Most Lizardfolk tribes tend to speak Draconic, despite the fact that they have no biological relation to Dragons or Dragonkin. It is suspected that this stems from the Lizardfolk's occasional relationship with Dragons, but the evidence is inconclusive.
Appearance
Lizardfolk resemble large bipedal reptiles, usually resembling lizards or crocodiles. Their bodies are completely covered in scales, with colourful frills running down from their forehead to the back of their necks. Lizardfolk also posses muscular, crocodile-like tails, sharp claws and a maw of serrated teeth. Male and female Lizardfolk look identical.
Scales: Lizardfolk scales are usually shades of green or yellow, but some have been recorded with blue or red scales.
Frills: Lizardfolk frills are a thin membrane of a orange, yellow, red or green colour.
Eyes: Lizardfolk tend to have yellow, reptilian eyes.
Maturity
Lizardfolk mature much faster than Humans, reaching adulthood by the age of 10.
While Lizardfolk can reach ages upwards of 70 years, they tend to die in conflict long before then.
Reproduction
Lizardfolk hatch from eggs. Female Lizardfolk can produce a litter of up to 3 eggs. These eggs must be kept warm for 7 months before they hatch.
