Scooby Gang Reporting For Duty

Summer 2021, Week 3

Monday morning

AERI HQ, Victoria Field

Isaac Crysentine

The train ride had been silent and ominous. Long, dark tunnels filled with the beams of light from the train’s headlights illuminated the path ahead, and left Isaac alone in his thoughts. Dropping off Sloane at the nearest subway the day before stop felt like leaving an unstable person alone to their thoughts, but it was what she wanted.   Today would be the 1st day of finally being a hero. Isaac could not contain himself, and while he figured it might be important to show up in costume he didn't want to walk into the supposedly conspicuous building in uniform. The train ride to HQ wasn't long by any means, but it did leave Isaac alone to ponder everything that happened and the training that had occurred the night before. "I need to get stronger," he muttered to himself, thinking back to how badly he got whooped by electric man.   Andre had told him to pick them up some food, although he never specified from where. Smiling slightly, he college student rushed from the train stop to the nearest McDonald's, and proceeded to load up on copious amounts of food on the city's tab.   By the time Isaac got back to headquarters, he could not have been under more stress. The physical strain of carrying countless McChickens, fries, and McFlurries weighed down on him, but he figured it was one last measure of good training before the night ended. The outside of the Universal Supply structure was quiet and desolate, and seemed almost abandoned. Hope no one finds a college kid bringing in all this food suspicious. Inside, there was more of the same. Half-installed panels and walls, exposed circuitry and construction tools littered the main entrance. The first level of HQ, however, was a bit more organized and cleaner. Most of the other rooms were still under construction, but the conference room itself was done. Almost sheepishly, Isaac began distributing the food around the big empty table, waiting for his friends to come back from the warehouse.

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

This thing is a little snug Andre thought as he clicked the elevator to take him down a floor to the main level. By 'click' he of course meant typed in the code he had texted to everyone that gave them access to the new, still being built, Headquarters. Today was the day. Day one of being a hero, or so he imagined Isaac saying. He had just gotten in his uniform the other day, an experimental type the Chief and Mayor had scrounged up from Fire Department test models and had adjusted. He wanted to put it through the test, the material at least, to see if it was something they could use.   Andre liked the look. It was closer to what he wore as a firefighter than some gaudy outfit designed for a hero. Sadly, he knew it was only temporary. I guess getting to design a costume will be fun. But no capes. Stepping out of the elevator he was impressed by the work the staff had gotten done in such a short period of time. They were all federal contractors. Checked and checked again for the Government's Evo program and hired by the city to help them set up the HQ. There was still a lot of work to be done but impressive, nonetheless.   Walking into the conference room, he saw Isaac setting up.... "A meal fit for Kings and Queens I see." A chuckle escaped as he watched the flamethrower stacking the sandwiches neatly in an effort to make them look presentable. "I dig it, keeps us grounded. Especially considering we barely have anything left in the budget after all this place took. You get here all right?"

Isaac Crysentine

Isaac was in the process of placing the 5th McChicken on top of the stack as Andre walked in. The sudden burst of words caused him to lose focus and knock over the whole stack, but at least he knew now that it was in fact possible to stack McChickens in such a manner that they can reach large heights. "Wait, we're low on budget? The mayor made it seem like we had bottomless funds...." his thoughts wandered to the day before, when he met the new kid at school and also bought a hefty item on the city's tab. Best to not say anything about the second bit. "Yeah, the train ride wasn't too bad. Decided to show up in my normal clothes today, not like we'll be doing much, I hope. And if we do, I'll just make sure to mind the cloth." Isaac smiled sheepishly as he laid down each person a pair of Large Fries, paying careful mind to a 5th spot.   "Also, one more thing. I found someone yesterday at school that might have potential. I told them to come here, so they might show up at some point. Don't be alarmed, but they might be a bit overwhelmed at all of this..." Isaac took a grand wave of the whole room, signifying this is what the mystery person might be overwhelmed by. "They'll be fine though."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

"Low as in we've spent a lot on getting things fix. Even bottomless funds have an end you have to get approved, my man. Just the way of the world." Andre grabbed one of the wrapped burgers, looking at the piles of crumpled wrappers in front of Isaac. "Need a lot of calories for the flame, huh?" Taking a bit, he listened to his friend talk about a new arrival. "Are they interest? That'd be good. The more we have the more effective we can be. Any side of the others so far?"

Isaac Crysentine

He watched slowly as Andre took the McChicken he was considering eating but decided it was good to also get calories from healthier sources. "Fire does consume a lot of calories. It is raw energy, and calories are our version of that too. And they're interested, I hope, I never actually asked or specified what they would be showing up to. But they'll show up. Hope the Chief doesn't mind." Isaac grabbed a pack of fries, one of the several tens of packs that were littered about. "I really hope I don't get in trouble for all this food. And no, no word on the others, but I'm pretty sure they'll be here soon. Also," the pack of fries was already done, and Isaac was moving on to the large Sprite he had gotten for himself, "like the new costume dude. It suits you, looks hella clean."

Sloane Whittier

Sloane arrived dressed for her day job at the mayor’s office with her Michael Kors bag tucked under her arm. She wasn't sure how long this would take and wanted to be prepared, just in case she had time to go get some other stuff done. It felt good to be dressed nicely anyway. She had given herself yesterday to sulk, but today she was going to focus on their future in the program and what needed to be done for the city. That was their purpose. She still didn't sleep for shit the night before, but that's what makeup is for. 'Any Cosmo girl would know.'   Her "Everything's Fine" mask slid into place on her face just as the doors opened. "Hey guys! How's it goin?" She spied the stack of food on the table, thankful that she'd had breakfast already. "McyD's for breakfast? I'm in charge of catering next time. That stuff doesn't even decay."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

"Thanks. I'm just testing out the material. It's a proto for the Department, meant to be stronger, light weight, resistant and all that. Figured if it works, we could use it to make our...costumes." Andre chuckled at the thought. Costumes, seriously. Thank God I don't need a mask at least. And no capes! Grabbing some fries from one of the packs Isaac hadn't devoured yet, he heard the door open and watched as Sloane walked in. "It's going. Mondays are never exciting, even when you're a hero." Wonder how she's doing. He hadn't talked to her since Saturday, but Isaac said she got home and seemed okay. To be fair I wouldn't trust the guy to notice. He's the definition of focused tunnel vision sometimes. Which wasn't a bad trait given how much improvement he'd seen in his friend in the few short weeks. It just was.   "You can thank Isaac for the meal choice. Personally, I would have went for burritos since they are obviously the most efficient on-the-go food type." Plopping another fry in his mouth with a grin and thoughts of burritos. "Oh, Isaac apparently invited a friend to come join us."

Sloane Whittier

His concern reached through her mental barrier, even though she wished it hadn't. She didn't want to hear anyone's response to how much she fucked up, she was hating herself enough as it was, and she was afraid they would too. She shot him a quick message. 'I'm fine. Just leave it. But... is the girl okay?'   "Burgers, nuggets, fries, burritos... this is what you boys see as fuel? Dear lord I'm in trouble. I'll have to make sure I have my own food brought in. A girl can't live like this and expect to keep her figure. What's this about inviting another person? This doesn't work if you're going to run your mouth, Isaac."

Isaac Crysentine

"I promise, I wouldn't have brought anything up if I did not think it was for a good reason. When they get here, you'll see what I mean. For now, just trust in that I don't just tell everyone to join the AERI team, that would be bad PR." Isaac was barely talking and more mumbling as he was in the process of consuming is 5th McChicken for the meal. I think this should be good enough for fuel.

Luna | Mecha Loli

Luna walks into the room in her usual outfit, just as Isaac is attempting to respond to Sloane. "Wait, you just gave someone the address to this place? Isn't the HQ supposed to be kinda... secret, right now?" She pauses as she sees the numerous chicken sandwiches and bags of fries on the table. "And who is supposed to eat all this? I don't think I've ever seen so much fast food in one place before in my life, and I lived on fast food for a year straight..."

Sloane Whittier

"He's a growing boy, don't you know? They're also synonymous with trash cans." She smiled, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. "Look, we just need to be careful. You shouldn't be giving this address out to anyone unless they're vetted."

Isaac Crysentine

”Yes, yes, I understand, but also trust me when I say you’ll see why I gave him the info and why he is here. Just hope he gets here soon, ideally after everyone shows up though. Speaking of, where’s the Chief?”

Sloane Whittier

"Yeah, he should be here soon. The mayor isn't coming for our first meeting, she has a busy schedule, but I'll brief her on anything that's needed later. Well, her or Charlotte. One of them."   'You tell me whatever works for you. I could shout CALLING TOKYO in your head and mimic turning some radio dials for you if that helps. Totally not obvious or anything. But good, glad the kid is okay. That's all that matters. I'm fine. Right as rain. Perfecto. Insert other cliché saying here.'

Chief Butler

Just then the Chief walked in with his usual coffee cup plastered in his right hand, but he was overshadowed by a very large woman walking behind him. A very large woman with hot pink hair. "Goooood morning everyone. Looks like everyone made it just fine. Good to see it, good to see it. Luna, do you mind taking meeting notes? I figure you're the better equipped of us for the time being. Don't need it to be super detailed, just highlights and to-dos, ya know? I'll get someone to do it for us real soon, so you don't have to worry about it for much longer."   "And I'm sure some of you know, this is Ms. Roslyen van Steele. She approached me at HQ this morning and inquired about joining this program. She has some talent that I think might be of use to you all, but I think membership shouldn't be decided by me anymore. One of the things we'll work out is how new members are recruited, who makes the final say, all that jazz, because at the end of the day this has to be a group mentality. One that works together efficiently. Can't have that if there's any sort of dissonance among you all. So, if ya don't mind, I'll just sit myself down and you all can take it from here."

Luna | Mecha Loli

The little girl gave the Chief a thumbs up before pulling her hood over her face to activate her HUD. He said it didn't need to be super detailed, but super detailed is all she knew. Quickly she set up a couple programs she had written a couple days ago in anticipation of just such a request, one to record and transcribe all audio input into a text file and another to record video and audio directly. They mostly ran in the background automatically, but she would monitor the programs as they ran for the rest of the meeting.

"Wait, aren't you really famous?" she says as the Chief finishes speaking. She puts emphasis on the word 'really' considering she knows the woman is famous but being in the world for as little of a time as she has it sometimes gets confusing how well known some people really are.

Roslyen Van Steele

“Well famous is kinda a broad term. I will probably be forgotten by the sands of time, but currently yes. I am a household name.” Roslyen gave a small shrug. She had a chance to replace her hoodie, so she stood behind the chief like an oversized child not entirely sure what she was supposed to be doing. Rocking slowly back and forth on her heels. “But I wouldn’t really worry about my fame, I really am trying to help as just an Evo.”

Isaac Crysentine

Isaac was eating a medium order of Fries now, not out of a need for fuel for his fire but as a genuine desire for fries. “So, you want to join the team?” He said through eating his fries. “What’re your powers? And why do you want to be an AERI? Also, what’s your opinion of Don’s?” Isaac licked his fingers for the salt and went to grab a medium Sprite and Vitamin Water mix he proudly discovered was actually quite good that day.

Roslyen Van Steele

Staring at the clear glutton of a man, she gave him her best million-dollar smile. The kind she used when paparazzi she disliked asked for a photo when she couldn't decline. Having a small distaste for him already. "Well for powers that's quite simple. I can absorb and redirect kinetic energy, and all kinds." She gave a light shrug also showing off her massive rather well-built frame. "On top of that I have combat experience and served in the Greek military.” She barely did a full year, her minimum service time, but they didn’t need to know that yet. "As for why I want to join AERI, well as it’s known, I have done my best as a face for Evos. I don't hide what I am, and often speak out about Evo rights and the abuse we face every day at my shows. This is just another way I can help. I dislike sitting back when I know I can do something."

Isaac Crysentine

He listened intently, more so doing this so the conversation could get going for anyone else to ask questions. “Very cool, but do you like McDonald’s?” He thought she seemed like a good candidate for the team, but now he needed to see if she’d be a good friend.

Roslyen Van Steele

She did her best to keep the wide smile, having not really eaten at McDonald’s... well, ever. She was unsure how she felt on it. "Well… to be honest, I have never had it. Through it wouldn't be hard to hire a private chief for this operation." Giving the speaker a wide smile, she shrugged a bit. She understood what McDonald’s was and really wasn't interested in ruining her body with it.

Isaac Crysentine

Satisfied with his vetting, Isaac sat back in the chair and had the last of the vitamin Sprite, and proudly said: “I think she’s good, I’ll leave the rest to you guys. Name’s Isaac by the way, I’m a college student at St Maria’s in my 2nd year, pleasure to meet you.” He gave a genuine, wide smile, and held out his thumb with what was a small flame in the shape of a blowtorch, which served to also show his powers to Roslyen.

Roslyen Van Steele

Giving a small chuckle she nodded her head. “Roslyen, and it’s a pleasure.” She was suddenly having second doubts. When she heard about this team, she was pretty sure it was people like Titan, soldiers and... well, older folks that have been fighting for quite some time. Looking at the room in front of her, she saw children playing hero… Someone was going to get hurt.

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Andre watched the exchange between the Chief and the other three, first focused on replying to Sloane. 'If you shout that in my head I'm bound to get distracted. Just say my name first and that should give me enough warning. Also, you're a terrible liar, I hope you know that. But later we can tackle that.' The he turned back to the exchange and caught Isaac and Roslyen's conversation. Leave it to my boy to toss in McDonalds as a question for an interview. And it was about time for him to cut that off. "Roslyen, it's a pleasure to meet you." He walked towards her a bit to one, close the distance, and two cut off Isaac and his fire fingers--which would be a boss name for a band.--"I'm not sure if I'm speaking only for myself, but it’s your answer to why you want to be an AERI that would partially convince me. We are all here to make a difference, for our like and for all people. So as an Evo, let me just thank you for considering taking this leap to make the world better for all of us."   The Chief seemed to be more interested in his coffee, at least he appeared that way--old man was probably testing us in a fashion to see how independent we could be.--His Captain had done that for the various crews that went out. "I think this is an excellent opportunity to refine some things, such as recruitment, given we have one, possible two if Isaac's find comes, to add in today. But the Chief is right in saying we need a process." Looking at the entire group, he proposed a simple plan. "For right now, we're small. We can't create a huge process that takes up five days when the fact is we need more people. So, here's my suggestion to all of you, Roslyen included as an outside perspective unless or until she decides to join. Luna does a background search to confirm they have no record or bad ties. Sloane conducts an interview of basic questions after they consent to it. And either Isaac or I spar with them a bit if their powers are leaning to the Response team. Thoughts?"

Luna | Mecha Loli

"Sounds good to me!" she says quickly in reply. "If we can compare their basic applications to their background check and interview answers and everything matches then the only question would be their capabilities, and after the other day I'd trust either of you to test that. Maybe we can also record those sparring sessions to go over in detail afterward?"

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

"Exactly, and that's the less invasive option. And pretty on par with what the police do I believe, the Chief could clarify." Andre responded to his young friend and teammate. "Could you set up a program that did that automatically so you wouldn't have to conduct each one individually and maybe just do an audit at the end of it, or task it to some staff we could hire?" Thinking of her suggestion too, he nodded. "That's a good idea. We should do that for all our sparring sessions and in the future our simulations for simulated rescue operations and stuff when those facilities get set up in the future."

Roslyen Van Steele

Seeing she wasn't entirely part of this process she stepped back and smiled, leaning against a wall with a small slouch. She was a bit pumped up having gotten herself psyched for a combat trial, but it was beginning to seem like perhaps that wasn't needed quite yet. She would slowly try to relax and let her pounding heart slow.

Sloane Whittier

'Okay so shout your name at you instead. 10-4 good buddy. Signing off.' She smirked and turned back to the "interview" Isaac was giving and Andre's subsequent follow up. "Sure, I can handle giving interviews to our new applicants. Standard stuff. But one question I have now... Ms. Van Steele, I have to say you've done quite a bit of PR for Evos as it is. Why is it that you think you should join us? You have plenty of a following on your own and I don't see how we would give you much more of a boost to your signal. At least not until we're more established and known anyway." So many radio puns. So many.

Isaac Crysentine

Isaac smiled at the prospect of fighting; he had been itching to try some new moves since the training two days ago. “I’m down for anything, just tell me where to go and what to do.”

Alexander King

It was at that very moment that hell broke loose. Well, that was giving the consideration that hell itself was manifesting as an eighteen-year-old with stark white hair and glinting piercings. Such an aspirant hellion completely detached from the reality he was walking into as the tendrils of music began to curl and tangle their way throughout AERI headquarters accompanied by the distinct undercurrent of static spawned from damaged product. Then came the smell, the salvation of despondent college students across the states with its aromatic signature sauce and fresh sizzling chicken skin. Much like the other resident college student, Alex came loaded—albeit not nearly as much as the other resident matchstick—with the distinct white and red bag with an impressive yet simplified mark of a chicken's head on both sides of the bag.   As if by some miraculous turn of fate, his line of sight had yet to befall the mass of people tucked within the headquarters. Instead opting to moonwalk out of the elevator in a somewhat impressive display. Low off-tune humming intertwining with the more melodic sound of proper music curling through the hallowed, newly minted halls of New Victoria's heroes proper. "Hmmhmm duhduh... If you want some take some, get it together baby! Come and get your love, come and get your love, come and get your love..." He continued on, heedless of his own quality and ignorant of the presence of others. His sneakers squeaking on freshly polished floors as he quite literally got down and he offered all of AERI an awkward one-man dance show of a boy struggling to carry food and jam out to tunes without a care in the world. It was with one final flourish and crinkle of the bag tucked under his arm almost like a football that Alex realized his terrible mistake. A juicy looking chicken tender halfway inside of his mouth as he saw everyone present.   It was like seeing a deer in headlights, his glacier blue eyes widening in shock as he dropped the partially eaten tender onto the ground with his mouth partially agape. His shabby headphones hanging at a perpetual incline favoring the right side of his head over his left. A light tinge of red graced the edges of his cheeks as the situation fully registered to him, and the faintest puff of blue flames curled like embers from his lips.   "I... Wasn't told there would be this many people, and..." Holy shit, he finished in his head as for the first time he truly saw the AERI headquarters in its entirety. This was going to be a long day.

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Wow, impressive moonwalk. I need to—Focus. This was already getting close to out of hand. It wasn’t anyone’s fault. Simple fact was, as Andre saw it, they were trying to put together a team of heroes and emergency responders without any foundation or groundwork beyond planning. It wasn’t like they had any choice. But today was their first day, and damnit there needed to be some order. And some practice. Stepping forward, Andre held out his hand. “You must be the young man Inferno mentioned.” He figured this kid knew Isaacs’s name but better safe than sorry. “I’m Victory. We’re pleased to meet you and see you have some interest in joining. Can I get your name?”   His tone was mature, calm, and totally ready to help the young man by pretending he didn’t just see him dance his way into the room like MJ reborn. At the same time, he called out to Sloane. ’Make sure he isn’t a threat. Then tell Luna to run a background off of facial features. I want to see if she can do it without a name. Please and thank you. Andre out good buddy.’

Isaac Crysentine

"That...that is the friend I mentioned earlier. His name is Alex, and he's not too different from me. Glad you could make it!" Isaac was a little embarrassed at Alex just walking in, moonwalking like no tomorrow, but at this point all he could do was own up to it and accept it. Maybe I should have waited a bit before I invited him in... "So, when are we gonna get to sparring?"

Sloane Whittier

She shot off a message to Andre: 'Roger dodger, I'm on it.'   Then she opened another channel to Luna: 'Hey, Andre wants to see what you can find on our new friend using facial recognition. He wants to test your powers. Give him a good show.'   "Calm down, hot shot." Sloane laughed and shook her head. "Alex, I hope you're not offended if I call you the King of Pop every now and then after an entrance like that. Maybe I'll get you a fancy glove for a special occasion. I couldn't do that if I tried." 'Or could I...?' She imagines herself gliding along the floor, all graceful like, and unintentionally starts acting it out. Forgetting she's wearing heels, she stumbles and falls back into the desk behind her. She tries to make it look like she just missed a step as she leaned back and crossed her feet over each other. 'Smooth. Real smooth.'

Luna | Mecha Loli

'Gotcha. That should be easy enough.' she thinks as she pulls up another program, this one being something she wrote previously to sell commercially. The facial recognition software comes up and she locks her gaze on the newcomer, several indicators popping up on her HUD to visualize the process as the program studied every detail it could. Almost immediately results start pouring in from the automated reverse image search and filtering into an only somewhat organized mess of data. Luna combs through the data much quicker than the average human could, but it still takes her some effort to go through it accurately at that speed. As soon as she has the young man's full name, she pops the name into a background search that pulls up nearly all publicly available information, which is added to the data pulled from the recognition software. As she fully verifies each tidbit of information she deems important, she relays it in her thoughts to Sloane.   'Full name is Gavin Alexander King. He's 19 years old and attends St Maria University while working part time at a bookstore. About 9 years ago he lost his parents in a fire and it's suspected that his powers were the cause, though it was still deemed an accident. His biological parents were Christopher and Rachel King, veterans of the War on Ragnarok. He has no criminal record that I can find. I have a bunch of other basic info here but I'm not sure any of it is important right now, so let me know if you need anything else in particular.'

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

"We can organize a spar IF Alek or Roselyn determine they want to be on the Response or Vanguard teams, Isaac. No point fighting it out and taking up everyone's time if that isn't their goal. But before all that, there are more important things to handle. Alex, I'll restate this just because you came here, but we're working out our intake process. Safe to say the four of us." Andre gestures to the main group all standing near enough to each other. "Got brought in by the Mayor or Chief. But that's not going to stay SOP. So here we are." Even if I wish we worked this out a bit more before the Chief or Isaac dropped someone in on us.   "So, we have a basic interview with Sloane, a background check, and then I think a statement from the prospect about Why they want to join, what they want to do. Etc. Roselyn sort of already covered her why, but not her what." Glancing over at the Chief, Andre spoke loud enough to grab his attention. "Before all that, why don't we give them an idea of what they'd be joining. It being our first day, Chief, what do you have for us that you can share with the 'public’, so they have an idea of what we'll be doing?"

Chief Butler

Looking up from his coffee reverie, Steve shifted in his chair. "First thing's first, they may want to take a gander at that document that our Luna out together. It gives a good idea as to what this group is supposed to be all about and the different spots that are available, assuming you're vetted good and proper. As for your the main target for this team at the moment, I think anyone living in this city knows that the biggest Evo menace is Bolt. We need to start getting more actionable intel so we can work on getting him off the streets as soon as possible. I can't stress enough that this being such a high-profile situation, it needs to go well. It's your first impression on the city. Give them something good to suck on for a while."

Isaac Crysentine

"He's been killing indiscriminately, and any people that the Chief has sent after him haven't had the best time. And as a whole, the team hasn't had the cohesion to do much as we're still gathering ourselves and figuring out how to catch Bolt and anyone else like him."

Alexander King

He took a moment to collect himself amid the rush of thoughts swirling within his own head, his eyes darting between Isaac and the other individuals populating the strangely advanced looking meeting room. His gaze flickered over and--was that the Chief of Police. For a moment the boy seemed frozen as a bead of sweat trickled down his forehead until DeAndre broke the silence with an introduction. Monikers... Wait! "Victory, as in the Victory that's been making appearances on the News?" It was the only News he bothered to watch considering the nature of it, "And Inferno--" He stumbled over his words for a moment before laughing, "Right! He was doodling stuff like that in his notebook, but ah... I never got your name." Alex stated, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly as he glanced towards Isaac.   First his introduction to his class had been exceedingly humiliating and now he made a bit of a fool of himself in front of all these people. Despite that he managed to retain a well-meaning smile as his eyes crinkled at the edges, "Sure, call me what you want! Alex is what I go by normally, but if we're using fancy monikers and stuff... God this feels weird, right, anyways--I'm Pyre. Nicknames work all the same too," with that he offered shot a set of finger guns in Sloane's direction as he found his footing once again.   Quirking an eyebrow, he began to approach closer to ensemble. "I don't know what the Response or Vanguard teams are, but I know I want to help. I remember there was a call for aid, and I was meaning to come by the PD to ask about it... Though it seems it fell right into my lap!" Alex offered a hearty laugh, placing a hand on his hip as he flicked his gaze over everyone. "I'll read whatever I need to, and I'll do what I gotta. Where do we start?" There was a brief pause as a look of contemplation dissolved into a grin, "And it's great to meet you all! I look forward, hopefully, to work with you."

Sloane Whittier

'Finger guns! Oh my god, finger guns. That's precious. Now there's two of them!' She looks between Isaac and Alex. 'Double mint twins. Yup. That's what I'm gonna call them. So many nicknames, so little time.'   Hearing Luna's report took her out of her mini tangent. 'Thanks, Luna. Really appreciate it. I'll pass it along to el jefe.'   'Andre, incoming. Luna got me a report on the new kid on the block. His name is Gavin Alexander King. 19. St. Maria with Isaac. Works at a bookstore. Parents died in a fire 9 years ago. He may be the reason, but it's an accident. Parents were Evos in the war on Ragnarok. No record. Let me know if you have any follow up.'

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

’No follow up. Thanks. Same to Luna.’ Damn, that’s heavy. But it sort of helped paint a better picture of the young man. These powers we have can be dangerous, or they can save lives. It’s up to us. “Haha, yeah ‘that Victory.’ Pyre, I like it.” He did not like it per se, but then again, he didn’t like code names period. “That’s a good call, Chief. We should go over the team structure Luna created. Luna, can you pull that up?”   Andre waited for Luna for a moment and dove into not so much a speech but a discussion. “So, as I see it, we have three teams, and three primary objectives. Objectives first. One, to help people. Period and end of story. We’re emergency response on steroids. So, fires, injuries, people having a bad day. That’s us when and wherever we can.” Looking up on the screens, Andre mused for a moment. Best to stick with objectives first.   “Two, to stop dangerous, law breaking Evos. That’s the second reason we’re here, is that fair to say Chief? People like Bolt and Swarm.” More monikers. “And third, to make lives better for Evos everywhere by doing one and two, and just generally helping them out where we can.” He pulled out his phone where he had the AERII documents loaded so he could scroll on his own. “With our three teams, we basically have Uniformed Responders, the Response Team. The Undercover intel collectors, the Vanguard Team. And the Homefront, here to make sure we actually function people, the Support Team. All three teams should be aiming for all three objectives, but it’s obviously the Responders focusing more on Objective 2 over the others.”

Chief Butler

Andre caught the man mid sip, so he just gave a thumbs up in agreement to the outline he'd given so far. This was their showcase now and as far as he was concerned, Andre was taking lead. So far at least.

Isaac Crysentine

The orange fire user whistled, loading up a game on the computer in front of him. While there were no assigned seats for the heroes on the team, Isaac decided this would be his own personal computer during meeting times. What to play, what to play. Since the focus had shifted to helping out the two new recruits, Isaac started playing Call of Battlefield: White Ops 4.

Roslyen Van Steele

"Well, this is awkward." Rosey stood there with her hand in the pocket of her sweatshirt. She wasn't quite sure both what to do, or how to act… something quite rare for the popstar. Standing behind the police chief like a small child hiding behind their mother. She stepped a few inches back to stand against the wall seeing quiet what was going down. These people were odd... Probably even by normal people standards… But for her, the oddest she has ever been around. While she had been asked a question, the new guy kinda stole the show. She didn't want to be insulting so she stood quietly waiting.

Sloane Whittier

'Is he... Is he actually playing a game right now?? How did he... Oh I can't even with this.'   'Andre, your kid needs to be checked. This isn't play time. Imma fuck with him. Watch.'   'EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE' She concentrated on making the loudest, most obnoxious sound she could make inside Isaac's head, like screeching audio feedback.

Isaac Crysentine

What Isaac believed was the sound of hell itself echoed in his head seemingly out of nowhere. He keeled over onto the ground, dropping from his seat in the middle of the conversation. He couldn't even think, but his body was telling him that only one person can put a sound in his head: Sloane. Putting his hands on the floor to seem like he was in agony, Isaac imbued the ground with fire and sent it directly and up to the desk where Sloane's hands laid and the ground underneath her feet, heating it up considerably but not setting it ablaze. All the while he curled up on the floor, hoping the torment would end soon. Why me, what did I do?
[Imbue x2 Minor, -2 Ep]

Sloane Whittier

"OW!!!" She leaped forward away from the blazing hot desk and then looked around sheepishly. "Apologies, everyone. Don't mind us. We're fine."   'This isn't the time to play games and you shouldn't be downloading anything like that on these computers. Pretend like you understand the seriousness of this meeting and pay attention. This determines the future of everything we're trying to do here.'   "So, Alex, Roslyen, how are you feeling about the things we've outlined so far? What areas are you interested in most, where do you think you can be of the most benefit on our team?"

Isaac Crysentine

Fine, fine. Most of the attention was on the new kids so I figured it wouldn't hurt. I'll uninstall the game though. With the sound now out of his head, Isaac got back into his chair and let the game uninstall as he put his head on his arms, watching the new recruits silently, thinking about how he'd get back at Sloane in the future.

Roslyen Van Steele

Rosy gave a small frown and kinda looked to the side. That was a bit of a hard question. Though she knew the answer even if she was a bit worried. “I think one of the best ways I can help is my strength...” Lifting her arm she gave a large smile, flexing her rather impressive biceps. Her entire body looked a bit like a body builder, her muscles perfectly defined and outlined, an advantage of her body growing rapidly. Her muscles were always in top shape, on the edge of superhuman shape. "Stopping criminals, and others Evos, this is something I’ve always been good with, considering stopping things is part of my whole deal."

Luna | Mecha Loli

As soon as she is asked, the young girl quickly makes some motions as she remotely accesses the main computer system in the room and brings the AERII document up on the nearby wall-mounted computer screen. She had already taken the steps to connect to the system's internal Wi-Fi when she first arrived, so it wasn't much trouble. The monitor is large enough to be seen from anywhere in the room, but the document could also be accessed from any of the computers in the room as well. Without waiting she navigated the main system through the document to the team structure page. AERII - Authorized Emergency Response Individual Initiative   Later, after Isaac falls to the floor and Sloane suddenly gets burned, a message pops up on Isaac's computer screen and simultaneously Sloane receives a text with an identical message. The message on the computer does not have a close window button and the text alert is noticeably different from any of Sloane's normal notifications.

Are you two really fighting in the middle of a meeting and possible recruitment? And I thought I was supposed to be the child here.

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Andre, for his part, did his best to ignore the background noise of his two teammates apparently playing pranks on each other. He had considered ending it, but it looked to be simmering down. Add more to the situation and it’d only bring more attention. A talk afterwards might be warranted. Instead, he focused on Roselyn since she answered Sloane’s question first. “Then that’d likely be the Response Team. Speaking from my own personal podium, strength has a characteristic all its own that’s right at home with saving lives. Most people lost in fires or building collapses pass away because people can’t move things to get to them.”   The woman did have an impressive physique, for human standards. Andre never paid much attention to that while thinking of himself. Whatever caused his body to be stronger than any normal human, or most Evos didn’t make him look like a body builder with cuts you could wash clothes on. No, he had that football player strongman type build that just radiated strength. For Roselyn, knowing her power wasn’t exactly similar to his, it gave a better measure of what she could do. “That will mean under our new standard we will have to organize a sparring session. Are you okay with that?”

Chief Butler

"Something to keep in mind for the team. Miss Van Steele has followers. Her every move is tracked by the media and by some less than savory folks as well. You'll want to find a way to nip that in the bud or at the very least shroud her in some secrecy when she's going out for AERI business. It could become a problem."

Roslyen Van Steele

"A spar? More than okay with it… as long as you don't mind me hurting someone. Since I assume you don't want me to hold back." The bright smile that lit up her lips was one of excitement, she could almost feel the burn. She was a bit of an adrenaline junky. The thought of going blow to blow with trained Evo fighters was almost better than a million fans screaming in her ear for encore. Giving a light bounce on her heels, she rolled her shoulders and stretched back and forth only to suddenly stop when the chief spoke... Yeah… That would be a problem she couldn't escape, but she had thought of that. "Actually… I had thought of that… and both want to offer my services and thoughts. Media and press coverage isn't always bad if handled right… I have a really, really good media lady... If the paparazzi caught your team taking down bad guys, pulling people out of fires, it would be huge and completely free coverage… Public support is something we need right?"

Isaac Crysentine

The fire user's ears perked at the mention of a spar, and he quickly jumped in. "We're fighting, we get to fight????" Isaac said very excitedly, the room's temperature getting slightly warmer with his emotions radiating from him as if they were flames themselves.

Roslyen Van Steele

Hearing someone as excited as her to throw hands she tilted her head around Victory to see who spoke up... only to see disappointment… He couldn't be more than a hundred pounds... soaking wet. That was who wanted to throw hands… Umm... No? She didn't really want to accidentally kill a teammate... before even joining the team. Talk about bad press. Though rather than call him out and make a scene, she merely bit her tongue and returned to looking at Andre. He seemed rather strong after all.

Alexander King

The young man's eyes seemed to glaze over a bit as Victory began to run through all the details in semi-excruciating detail, but by the end of it his eyes refocused, and he gave a two fingered salute to the older hero. "Basically, we're here to save people, make people like us look helpful, and stop the villains? Sounds easy enough to me!" As he spoke, he gestured to himself wildly jabbing his thumb towards his chest. "Whatever's required, you can count on me. My ability isn't much for intel or... Y'know, general first responder stuff. But, but, but...! But. My power can probably help out with dealing with other people like us, I think."   His eyes briefly flickered over towards Isaac and Sloane as something strange transpired just out of the corner of his vision. As he was about to open his mouth to speak, Sloane directed a question towards him and the other individual. "Uh, good questions. Like, really good questions... The main thing is I just wanna help people however I can, which is kinda boring and stock standard comic book talk but like--the area doesn't matter much if I can do that. In terms of what I can offer, I'm not afraid of showing my face. People kind of know me already anyways, and I'm happy to get deep in the shit if I gotta. Admittedly I'm not well trained with my power, but I'm willing to do my best to be a good asset to the team." As he finished speaking, he clenched his fists in defiance while looking towards Sloane and Andre.   Then his burning attention fell back to Andre, his eyebrows lifting as a brief look of worry flashed across his face then came understanding. "I don't know if the sparring session is being extended to me too or not, but I could probably use it. My control isn't the best, but I can do my best Mr. Victory, er... Sir? Oh, and uh... Thanks. I'm glad you like the name." He turned his eyes curiously upon Isaac before look towards Andre again, "If it matters, my abilities are like his just... Different in a way."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Listening to Roselyn, and then Alex jumped in, Andre noticed that they were both looking at him. Well…shit. This is what happens when you speak up. “So the two of you sound like you are interested in the Responders. Good, that’s what we need right now to start things off in my opinion. At least until we get more established.” He chewed on the Chief’s words and Roselyn’s response. “I think that’s a good point, Roselyn. We need media coverage. Controlled for right now as we are likely to make a few mistakes. A coordinator who can hopefully help us hire our own media coordinator would be useful.”   Looking around at the whole group, he said this next part clearly given the two new joins position on identities. “Each member gets to make their own individual choice whether to be known or undercover. Their own decision. We will all know each other’s identity likely. But under no circumstances are we to give it away. To help that, we’re going to switch to using code names as soon as possible to make it a habit. So, if you don’t have one or weren’t given one, that’s a priority.”   Letting those words sink in, the belief of secrecy for Isaac and Sloane engrained in his mind, he nodded. “Good. Okay. So, Roselyn and Alex, if this is something you’re interested in, we will confirm that Sloane has everything she needs, and that Luna has completed the check. Then we will spar.” Pondering for a moment, he came to a decision. “Roselyn, you’ll be with me. Alex, you’re going to start with me just so I can judge you, safely.” He looked at Isaac to stall any protest. “But your actual spar will be with Isaac.”

Isaac Crysentine

Isaac smiled, and loudly said without any context: "Agni-kai."

Roslyen Van Steele

"Of course! I can give my PR lady a call once this is over. Whether or not I get it I’ll let her know that I'm paying her to help you as well. That isn't a problem at all." Roslyen of course was ecstatic. She was going to get to fight Andre. He looked much stronger and easily a real test of her abilities… abilities she very rarely got to test out besides hitting a punching bag. Rolling her shoulders back she almost purred, her body starting to heat up, steam visibly rolling out of her mouth as she spoke. Her internal temperature starting to heat up as her body was beginning to turn on. “So, are we doing it right here? Or?”

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Theres a group of them. Andre flicked his gaze between Alex, Isaac, and Roselyn, barley surprising a sigh. He never understood the desire to fight. Since he got his powers, he had been in almost none except Bolt. Even before that his size deterred most would be attackers. It was only during his recent training with the police force he had to engage in conflict. But he understood the purpose. Oh, did he understand the purpose.   Unlike the group here, Andre had firsthand experience how being strong allowed you to save lives. And while he might not agree with their eagerness, he’d be sure as hell to make certain they understood this wasn’t a game and how important it was to be strong. Lacking any external show of power save for the ability to entirely ignore the rising temperature, he was only able to respond. “Downstairs. There’s an open reinforced bunker area designated for sparring. I’ve tested it myself, it’s hard as hell to break a support column and there’s plenty of redundancies. For now, that’s where we will spar. If I can’t break it, I doubt anyone else can yet.” The simple fact statement, which is what it was as opposed to bragging, probably did come off as a subtle statement of the hierarchy.   “Let me get changed. I’ll meet you down there. Anything else we need to tackle before the final test though?”

Sloane Whittier

"One more thing on my end. How do we want to handle any new applicants going forward? I don't think sending them here is the best first step. I think we need somewhere else to conduct our interviews and such. Chief, could we use the station?"

Chief Butler

"Steve... and sure ya could. We can make an ancillary office there for any of you to use for official AERI business. I'll find space somewhere. Might not be big, but it'll be somethin."

Sloane Whittier

"Perfect. Thanks, Steve. Does everyone agree with that plan?"

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

“Works for me. Safest option and makes sure we don’t have to worry about any random drop ins.”

Isaac Crysentine

Isaac laughed nervously at the idea. "Haha, yeah, I think that would be for the best."

Roslyen Van Steele

Roslyen had started to walk towards the bottom of the stairs. It would seem the rest of this conversation didn't really involve her. Not to mention she was far too ready, far too excited, to brawl. She didn't actually enjoy fighting that much. Maybe that was because all the fights she was in were really one sided… Something about being a massive Amazon did that, but she was excited to test herself. Though didn't she always. This was just another weight set, just another concert among a million people, just one more jump for her. She was about to fight an honest to god superhero. Standing at the bottom of the stairs she once more tore off her sweatshirt. Tossing it aside, giving a small not so hidden adjustment to her sport-bra after she did. Those who thought she was built with just a flex of her arms... may just drop dead seeing this. Her body was solid muscles. Every inch of her near body builder perfection. Not a trace of fat on her, well nothing that was currently visible at least. Bouncing a bit, she threw a few shadow punches towards a wall. Doing her best to remember what it felt like to fight someone who could actually hit her more than once. Not something she felt since sparing with her bodyguard against daddy’s wishes when she was 12.

Sloane Whittier

Her eyes trailed the pop star as she walked away. 'She really is ginormous. Sheesh.' "Okay, thanks guys. I'll work with Steve to get that set up. I think it'll make it easier for me if Luna joins the interviews with me. That way I can have her fact check during the meetings. We'll work out a system. Then if they pass our process, we'll send them to meet with y'all. I think we may need a more public place for the sparring test as well. So, you should think on that. No one should be coming here until they've been fully vetted and accepted."

Luna | Mecha Loli

"Yeah, I agree with that. We should keep this place as secret as we can considering if the wrong people find out we could find ourselves attacked..."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

“Sounds good to me.” Andre said, walking to a side door in the conference room that lead to a just being built locker room. There was still so much to do today after the sparring session. Looking for Bolt, patrol times and ‘work schedules.’ All work and no play. “Let’s make sure we record these sessions too. I don’t want to forget that.”   Stepping into the locker room, Andre quickly took off his uniform and exchanged it for a pair of black sweats and a grey tank top. He did a quick stretch and roll of his arms and twist of his torso. A deep breath, and he stepped back out into the conference room. “Let’s see how these two do.”
AERI Training Grounds, Victoria Field

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Andre stepped out of the stairwell into the wide-open bottom floor of the underground headquarters. It was a well-lit, plain grey space, with a few cameras on the roof and pillars that stood every couple dozen feet. It wasn’t the best space for his power set, but with the ceiling 30 feet up it allowed him to fly a little bit without too many issues. Seeing Roselyn, he rattled off the just made-up rules. “We’re not here to kill or maim each other, but don’t hold back. That’ll just get someone hurt. I’ll scale my power to yours and test how far you can take me. Other than that, we go until one of us yields or another team member calls it. This is a test, but I know more than most how rare it is to let loose a bit. So have some fun.”

Sloane Whittier

This would be the first time Sloane set eyes on the training grounds. 'Can't hurt a civilian here... Thank god. I wonder how that kid is doing... This is nice though. Kudos to the construction and design teams. Very, very nice.' She had a thought and smirked. "Watch out for flying objects! You never know when a telephone pole might come swinging at you." 'Joking is a form of therapy, right? That's what I'm going with.'

Isaac Crysentine

The young hero walked down, grinning at his first sight of the training grounds. "So, this was supposed to keep people safe from Ragnorak, huh?" Isaac had changed into a looser black t-shirt and athletic shorts, as well as showing up barefoot. The people supporting AERI hadn't finished his costume yet, and it's not like these clothes themselves could get burned if he simply manipulated the flames away. He looked over at his sparring mate, Alex, and gave a slow smile. I've always wanted to do an Agni-kai. It was only when Sloane made her joke that his smile turned to a frown. "Maybe we shouldn't randomly do magic with our mind and throw stuff at people? I don't think that'd be helping the situation much." He gave a simple thumbs up and turned slowly to Sloane, not sure what to say or do after that.

Sloane Whittier

"Allow me to introduce you to one of my personal mantras. It was taught to me by a dear friend." Ahem. She cleared her throat. "I do what I want! You don't get to dictate what happens on the battlefield. I represent the unexpected! Chaos. Maybe that should be my name." She laughed and winked at the young hero.

Isaac Crysentine

Isaac looked at her, straight faced, and almost pleaded. "Just this once, please, can we just do a proper one on one?"

Sloane Whittier

"Is it a true one on one though? Doesn't seem to be. Just sayin!"

Isaac Crysentine

"Yeah? It's...Victory and Roslyen and then me and Alex.

Sloane Whittier

She sighed heavily and shifted her stance. "So, it's like against like? Not sure how versatile of a test that is. I think the entrance exam could stand to be a little more complex."

Roslyen Van Steele

Rosey gave a small nod towards Andre and bounced a bit on her toes. "Of course, sounds like a simple plan. So, do we let the fire throwers go first? Or me and you?"

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

"We'll go first, since I have to do a quick test with Alex to make sure everything is safe." Hearing the conversation behind him, he turned around and, in his best,--peaceful sternness--voice he said "For training, we can have randomness. But when we're testing which equates to civilians to join our team, we will put safety over testing their limits. This is just a test to make sure their powers rise to the level they claim. During our team training you can go crazy, Sloane. Fair?"

Sloane Whittier

She held up her hands with an mmhmmm sassy kind of attitude. "Sure thing, Victory."

Roslyen Van Steele

With a small, surprisingly calm nod towards Andre, Rosy walked over to the center of the little battleground, stretching her left leg outwards. She did a few quick stretches before standing up straight and cracking her neck. She was ready. Her heart was pounding. Her eyes twitching, and her breathing was rapid. This was her most natural state. Pure, unadulterated adrenaline. “Now, I am quite sorry if I hurt you, Andre. You first.”

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Shifting his feet in the ground, Andre gave a nod to her suggestion—choosing not to respond to the preemptive apology. In the back of his mind Andre had noticed it was harder and harder for things to hurt him the stronger he got. Maybe Roslyen would be able to do it. Only one way to find out.   Expression growing firm as he saw she was prepared, he focused on what he was doing. With a push of his feet, he flew forward right above the ground, before planting his foot directly in front of her and throwing a punch with a bit of force behind it.

Andre may have trouble with people hurting him, but Roslyen… well most people didn't call her a person. They call her a mountain. Hitting her dead center mass, she didn't move. She wanted to see just how strong this man was. His fist would connect with her abs, feeling nothing but muscle and heat as he did… truly nothing. Not even the normal stinging of hitting something solid with his fist. "Tell me, is that all superheroes like you have?" She could feel pain and her body, at some level, knew his punch still rather hurt. But the adrenaline flowing through her system was over charging, overriding her basic nerves. She would be sore later through. “Come now. This is how you hit someone?” Roslyen quickly brought her knee up snapping it will the full force of the energy she had managed to steal from Andre.
[Type 1: x1 Normal, 3 EP (22/25]

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

“Ohp.” Was what came out as the knee hit Andre’s body, the force of the blow channeling his punch sending him into the air and back a dozen feet into a column. As dust and some debris rained down around him, he took a breath—a deep breath—trying to get the air forced from his lungs back. Oh, so that’s how I hit like.   Standing straight after a few seconds, he recentered himself. Impressive. If cocky. Andre hated cocky. Cocky got people hurt, or worse. How to teach that lesson with someone who can fight and absorb my blows. As much as this was a test, it was also an opportunity for Andre to learn how to deal with different Evo types. Then, the voice of Titan came back. Hit and keep on hitting until they can’t stand up. He could take his own hits. And besides, hitting wasn’t all he could do.   There were plenty of responses to her taunt. But Andre decided to go with the most simplistic. “No.” Stepping forward with large strides, he approached her until at the last second, he hovered an inch off the ground, whipped around her at Highway speeds, and lashed out with a kick to the back of her knee and brought both hands down in a downward strike at her shoulder. Hit and keep hitting.

Roslyen Van Steele

There was a phrase, don't be cocky unless you can back it up. This often applied to Roslyen. She could back up most anything she said. Through this would be the first time in the long time someone knocked her down. The first strike brought her too her knees, the second did nothing. Well, it hurt Rosy, but not nearly what Andre had wanted. “Come now. Why would you…” She rose with the force of his strike using his own hit as her strength. Rising up like a rocket effectively she leapt back into Andre, turning as she slammed her shoulder into him. Reaching with a long arm in an attempt to grab him, using his power for both speed and a bit of extra strength. "Enough flying, fight me like a man." She cries out aiming to grab and slam Andre onto the ground"

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

The shoulder into his chest would leave a bruise, but now with his own blood rushing he ignored it. It was instead the grab that caught him off guard. Her felt her fingers dig into his clothes and skin and felt his direction change towards the ground. The concrete under him cracked slightly with a sharp snap through the room. For a few moments everything went still.   Then, movement. With one free arm, Andre fought against the remaining pressure with the ease of his strength until he was up enough to twist with his flight, ripping his shirt but leaving only small marks on his skin as he broke the ground and landed on his feet.   A small trickle of blood came from his nose and his mouth. Wiping it with a hand, he looked at it, face unchanging from the cold exterior he came up from the ground with. The pain didn’t seem to register, but it was there under the surface. Looking back at Roslyen, he replied to her taunt. “I assumed you’d want me to use my full abilities and not fight with my hands tied behind my back.”   He was preparing to push his limits, breaking the room be damned. It took a lot to recall this was a test, not a fight. And the coldness seeped away from his features. “I think that’s enough. I can see what you’re able to do. I’m more than convinced.”

Roslyen Van Steele

Roslyen… was a bit out there. The blood pumping through her veins was thundering in her ears, echoing out anything but the pain beginning to surface. Her body was just not noticing how her shoulder was sitting kinda funny. She had shoved it out of place when she jumped back, the force slamming her bones out of place. Of course, her wrist wasn't much better. She could feel the sprain already and she hadn't even moved yet. Panting a bit, she looked over to Andre and smiled, revealing a mouth full of blood which she spat away with a small grimace. "I guess both those things are fair... I must say, you hit like a truck. It’s been so long since I've fought… well anyone who can hurt me." She let out a laugh and fell back on her ass panting softly "Fuck... I feel really fucking high right now... Anyone got any water? Or better yet protein powder?" Her normal calmness and just kinda air of "cool" was gone. Her racing heart making it hard to do more than breathe right this second as she was trying to calm her overheating body down. "Anyone want to come shove my shoulder back into place before my body heals it like this?"

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Andre went into emergency responder mode right away. Moving over to Roslyen, he looked at her shoulder and frowned. “It’s just out of place. One second.” It wasn’t his first out of place shoulder and adjusting his strength he quickly put it back in place with an organic sounding pop. “There we go. There should be some food and stuff on the second floor. And a bathroom if you need it. Take a minute and after this next test we will meet you up there.”   Between her and Isaac, Andre was worried their team was a bit too high on that horse. But with Roslyen they had some more strength on their team. “Great fight. You’ll need to show me some moves later on. I need to learn how to fight more effectively.”

Roslyen Van Steele

With a pained laugh she looked up to him as her shoulder was reset. "I'd be honored. Honestly, it’s not much. I only had about a year in the army, though my bodyguards have showed me a few things." Rising up she rolled her shoulder shaking her head as she felt all the torn muscles doing their best to stitch themselves back together. Her body may have the energy to do it, but unless she got some protein in her quickly, she would start devouring herself from the inside, muscles eating muscle just to repair itself. Walking towards the stairs she rubbed her rumbling stomach. "I really hope there is enough food to feed a bear... or six... I knew I should have brought lunch…"

Isaac Crysentine

Isaac sort of just started clapping, happy that there were now two people on the team who could hit and get it without so much as a scratch. I think we're definitely covered for the strength part. "Good job!" He said to Roslyen as she went back upstairs, satisfied with her performance. "So, what's up next?" He was far too excited and far too eager, and the thrill of fighting another fire user was starting to get to him.

Alexander King

Clad in a baggier set of casual gym wear, the boy seemed oddly comfortable with his surroundings as he sat at the edge of the training grounds. His gaze flickered back and forth between Andre and the woman he hadn’t quite caught the name of. I hope she didn’t already introduce herself, that’ll be embarrassing if I have to ask for it again. The fight climbing to its conclusion prematurely ripped Alex out of his thoughts and back into the real world. His wide eyes flickered over the battlefield and bloody faces of the two competitors then over to Isaac. He looks to the pink haired girl and lifted a hand before it transformed into a congratulatory thumbs up, “You did really well! Hope I can keep up the trend,” despite the terror pooling within his core, Alex managed to maintain a wide grin unflinching in the face of adversity. “I think Victory said he wanted to do a safety test, what’s the plan for that boss man?” He chirped, nervously spinning one of his piercings as he began to unfurl from his perch like a banner.

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Wiping off the blood from his lip with a gym towel he had brought down, he walked over to Isaac and Alex. "I hope you two saw what I did there. This is a test, not a spar. We're just making sure that new prospects can rise or compete at our level. That's all. There will be time to spar and train later." He was talking to both of them but made sure his eyes lingered on Isaac for long enough to send the message. "But you're right, Alex, I just want to do a safety test. For you, mainly. Can you show me your powers, and then hit me with whatever you got. I'm looking to make sure that you're like Isaac and can withstand your own heat and heat in general--since a test against another fire user without that ability seems a bit extreme. And then I want to just measure what you can dish out. I'm pretty certain of the former, since I read the book Isaac had. I think you all have inherent heat resistance but..." He gave a shrug. Andre felt safe in admitting he was not yet an expert in Evo powers. "The second part is I've trained with Isaac, and I want to be sure before I let him out of his cage that you can kick his ass." Giving a wink at that, he turned around and stepped back into the open area. "Whenever you're ready."

Isaac Crysentine

The college student rolled his eyes, realizing that Andre was trying to not-so-discretely tell him to keep it chill with the fire. Yes, sir. Isaac leaned back against the pillar, intent on seeing what someone else like him could muster with their flames. "'Kick my ass', yeah right" he laughed audibly, not taking himself seriously either.

The idea of testing his powers on another living being as a form of 'safety' didn't sit well with Alex, and such a thought was clearly written as the lines of skepticism formed along his face. His brow knit together, and his lips pressed into a thin line, but he offered a nod all the same. "If you think that's the best way to gauge it all, uh... Sure, yeah. We can do that." The AERI hopeful was knowledgeable of his own power and the danger it possessed both towards him and others. It was a monster without a leash, and it took all his willpower to restrain it whenever he let enough of it out. Standing up, a chorus of cracks echoed from his back as he straightened himself out. A low groan of relief as he rolled his head side-to-side and cracked his knuckles while moving languidly across from Andre. Despite the relaxed exterior he tried to maintain, apprehension and tension coiled within his muscles as he looked towards Andre then briefly over to Isaac. "So first I gotta show you, right..." He muttered before extending a single hand forward, his palm splayed out and facing the ceiling as a baseball sized ball of crackling blue flame spun into existence within his grip. Despite its size and being made of fire, it seemed more like a living being as it snapped and leapt within his palm as if trying to pull away from Alex's control. With every breath it seemed to glow brighter, the heat rolling off the small flame intensifying as it struggled against the control of its progenitor. For several moments the heat was tolerable, but as he held it aloft it began to singe his skin and a low hiss tugged free from his throat before he snuffed it prematurely with a clenched fist. His entire face scrunching in concentration as he executed the flame before he got out of hand, his palm steaming in the aftermath.   "Good enough for you?" Alex asked for a moment forgetting about his dread as he focused on the pain of his lightly burnt palm.

The more experienced fire user began to clap quietly, excited that Alex had managed to properly show off his powers to Andre.

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Huh. Sorry to say, Isaac, but he beats you in the cool factor. Andre, thanks to his firefighter experience, noticed the slight reaction to the burn. But it didn’t look severe. That and the Control seemed to say Alex knew how to handle his powers at least. “Perfect. Now, his me with your standard best. If you can outperform Isaac, I’d rather see that against me than him. After that, Agni Kai it is.”

Alexander King

Shaking out his hand the white-haired aspirant kept his eyes locked on Andre as he spoke, his features pulling into a minor wince. "Standard best?" Alexander repeated, rolling around the words in his mouth before he shrugged. "Sure, I'll let you decide how it is." Briefly he looked over towards Isaac and then a look of concentration fell over the usually jovial boy. Sliding one foot back, Alexander made his profile smaller as he crouched close towards the ground one arm tucked behind his back nearly out of sight while keeping the other one forward: both hands with their palms towards the floor. It was an odd stance that managed to keep him low and gave him a few options in regard to offense, defense, and mobility. It wasn't perfect, but it suited Alex well as blue embers began to trail from between his forefingers on the hand facing Andre before another small baseball sized torrent erupted into existence crackling and burning hot. Tucked behind him and nearly out of side a far larger, basketball sized swirl of blue flame sprang into existence swirling and spitting embers all around Alexander, wreathing him in his own halo of fire.   Taking a step forward he began to move the hand holding the smaller flame up as if to throw it just before it seemed to vanish! To the keen-eyed observer, however, they'd be able to identify that the blue flames were pulled into Alexander's body, those crackling blue embers now lancing through his veins and rushing to his other arm. Just as the first flame vanished, the college student ran forward and hauled off in a wide arcing underhand pitch as the basketball sized plume of flame suddenly surged to the equivalent of a beach ball in its mass. The absorbed flame adding to its size as it was ejected into the rolling inferno and sent screaming, spitting wisps of flame across its path all over the area as if the flame itself was intent on destruction.   In the event even an ember--let alone the full mass of Alex's blast--made contact with Victory, he’d come to find the fire was not simply just fire with a different color. It was like a living entity intent on directing the spread of its flame to the most vulnerable locations within its reach, clinging like napalm, and burning hotter by the second. An untamed wildfire with a will of its very own.

Lifting an arm as his eyes tracked the incoming fire projectile, Andre took a step forward and swung his hand down to connect with the ball of blue flame before smacking it, and his palm, onto the ground with a resounding smack into the concrete.   Well that’s fucking hot. He thought as he scrapped his palm onto the concrete until a flew random patches were left burning. Looking at his palm, it was tinted red, but nothing worse than when he sparred with Isaac. Interesting it didn’t dissipate though like normal fire. Sort of acted like oil or gas fire, moving with the fuel. Shaking his hand, he stood back up to his full height. “That should work. I think you two are good to go.” Andre liked the pitch maneuver Alex executed for the attack. It showed experience handling his power that Isaac didn’t have at that point.   The problem is it wasn’t that serious. If that’s his basic…we’ll, if Isaac can get serious for a minute we could train him up and have two excellent fire users that could push each other. Blinking, Andre then remember, fuck he’s a college kid. Andre had this problem about forgetting he wasn’t normal, and that what people put effort into might not seem that ‘amazing’ if he was involved. Crap, he needed to say something. What do people say normally? Good work, kiddo! Nope. “That looked excellent, Alex. I’m happy I decided to hit it instead of letting it land. Put on a good show.”

Isaac Crysentine

Instead of clapping to cheer, Isaac clasped his hands together and started walking, stopping at a point where he stood opposite of Alex. When his hands fell back to his sides, they were lit ablaze and encased by the pure orange fire that has so characteristically come to define him. Enough fire, in fact, to push the limits of what he could produce without expending himself. He saw what Alex could do on a basic level, and he figured if he wanted to see Alex on a more serious level than he had to get serious too. "Agni-kai time." Isaac smiled a deep grin, his body positioned in a fighting stance and his feet barefoot. Time to see what this blue kid is really made of.

That display he'd just put on took a lot of concentration and effort despite what Andre was thinking. It may have looked effortless, but in a controlled setting it was far easier to maintain his focus on keeping the flames from lashing out. Even then they still rumbled beneath his control, aching for something far more devastating. He knew his flames wished to turn him fully into a conduit, a vessel to pour out its fury, but for the time being he swallowed his fears down. Instead focusing on the burning within his veins and the words of the hero before him. A hero who'd just endured their heat.   "Glad you thought so Victory, sir. That's mostly the extent of it, but I still got a few more tricks." He offered a wobbly, lopsided smile as he looked towards the older man. "I'm happy you hit it too, made it easier on me." Despite the fear that clawed at the back of his mind, he even managed to laugh before turning to face Isaac, a trickle of sweat beading down his forehead. His experience was minuscule, and his power was nearly depleted as it was. No, he thought briefly, It's always there... My body just can't handle it. It can't be the vessel it wants me to be. Those bitter thoughts were thrown away as he squared off with the other fire user. A mixture of terror and anticipation swirled within him making him bounce on the balls of his feet as his smile overtook his face, a wide, gleaming thing that was equal parts nervous and excited.   My control isn't strong enough to draw this fight out, but if there's one thing I know this power can do... it’s overwhelm. Crouching down low again, his hands came together in an odd position. One palm outstretched, facing towards Isaac with the other hand curled in a facsimile of an 'O' shape. "Loser buys lunch for the winner, deal?" He gave Inferno a moment to consider before letting loose a spray of miniature bolts of flame lancing out from the center of his palm.   It was like a machinegun, rapid flurries of tiny darts of blue flame and embers shot in a cascade in hopes of pelting Isaac and the surrounding area in his fury made form. Each ember and sputtering flame that missed its mark seeming to move on its own, trying to leap and crackle in hopes of catching Isaac in their miniature grasps.

As the blue flames descended upon him, Isaac thought they weren't bad in it of itself. That's a new move I could do. Putting his arms out in a cross, Isaac swept them to his sides and unleashed two waves of orange fire to meet the flaming bullets. Regardless of what happened next, the orange fire user shot up into the air not with a continued force propelling him but two sharp accelerations furthered by the technique he uses for his Fire Fists but applied to his Fire Feet instead: rapidly heating the short-lived flames to expand the air and create explosive power, thereby propelling him with equal force to that of continuous Fire Feet.   Isaac launched himself into the air, a good 7 meters above Alex and with a clear line of sight of him. Seeing what he could do against Andre and the attack he pulled, Isaac knew Alex was already capable enough to at least be a good new addition to the team. But now we see if he's great. With some concentration and a little bit of fury, Isaac launched two fireballs from his hands and another wave of fire from a quick sweep of his feet before getting his Fire Fist ready, intent on simply pounding the ground in front of Alex but still curious to see how he would respond to his attacks.

Felt his nerves smoldering just as much as his boiling blood, every last sense standing on edge as orange flame met blue in a strange clash, the lesser bullets dispersed by walls of fire. He has a greater breadth at his disposal, Alex immediately noted as his mind screamed in its frantic, adrenaline-fueled pace. He didn't allow himself to remain still after his attack, beginning to dash in his lower position, making his profile as small as possible as he watched Isaac propel himself in the air as the glowing embers of his previous attack illuminated the blue fire user from behind.   There was a faint shock of surprise as he watched Isaac maintain height, keeping himself aloft by blazing fire alone. A technique that's bound to require a lot of focus and energy-- His thoughts were interrupted by a flurry of blows. Alex knew he couldn't afford to waste any energy blocking the attacks with his own abilities, instead opting to skitter backwards away from the impacts of the two fireballs before getting caught by the embers of the fire wave. Even with Isaac's intent to pound the ground in front of Alexander, he felt the heat cascading off his flames. His own heat tolerance affording him resilience against the element they both wielded, Thank God it wasn't a direct hit, I would've been cooked.   Now, about that flying... Finding his feet again, he began to punch his curled fists forward into the air. The dull impact of his hands clashing at their apex being muted by unstable, strangely fractured plumes of blue flame. They were aimed towards Isaac, but not his exact location, sailing at a rapid pace above him to shatter against the ceiling. Upon shattering their full purpose was revealed as the strange fire split apart like a firecracker shooting out dozens upon dozens of blinding blue, burning embers in a shower all around Isaac's position.   Rather than following up with a fireball, Alex turned his focus inward as his face pulled into a wince. This is going to fucking suck, His terror spoke for him in the back of his mind as he began to rush below Isaac's current position, both of his arms erupting in arcs of his mysterious blue flame. Strangely they didn't seem to be crackling outward, instead they were constantly being pulled inside of his body. Over and over again his flames being absorbed with his mortal vessel making his veins burn blue-white, his eyes glowing like the embers of his flames, and steam to begin pouring out from the pores of his skin and from the edges of his mouth. Even as he just began the process, Alex felt the unbearable heat within his muscles, his bones, behind his eyes, and within his heart. It was dangerous, but he had to try. I have to be all that I can be, or what's the point?! As he looked up towards Isaac, he yelled out, "Come on, let’s do this how it was meant to be done!"

The impact of Isaac's charged up Fire Fist on the ground sent a shockwave through his own body that he barely managed to control. Still getting used to this. When he saw Alex staggering back but then launching fire directly above him, Isaac could only look up and see what he thought was a rain of blue flames coming down on him. Some managed to hit their mark before he managed to create a small shroud of flame to block his immediate air above him, protecting him from the raining fire.   The fire that did manage to clasp onto Isaac licked around its surrounding area. His natural heat resistance kept him clean, but the fire themselves seemed to all behave as if they had a life of their own, moving about in their own mannerisms. "Damn, this could actually be dangerous." When the fire stopped falling, Isaac dangled his arms, finally managing to mostly put out the fire on his body with a little bit more effort. It was only when he looked back at Alex that he realized his classmate was starting to really serious. Almost to the point where Isaac recalled Andre's words of treating this only as a test. Clearly, his opponent was not, and spurred on by this show of force, Isaac would not either.   Slowly, Inferno set his sights on Alex once more. Isaac, without so much as moving a muscle, unleashed a fire attack imbued into the floor underground to where it would spring up just below Alex's feet. At the same time, he unleashed a powerful and lengthy stream of fire, whipped across his field of vision with his arms to have maximum reach and chance of impact. Finally, Isaac lowered himself into a position that reminisced of a sprinter preparing to dash 100 meters down the track at full speed. He felt his feet flare up with his Fire Feet, charging and waiting to be unleashed to launch Isaac barreling at his opponent at a speed that would only be combined with a combo move he had decided on the spot. Mr. Akira had been teaching him a thing or two, and it was time to put it to the test. "Let's go then. Hit me with everything you got!" When he finished those words, Isaac launched himself against Alex, coming down with a speed he had not yet achieved. Once reaching him, Isaac spun around in an attempt to kick him with the fury of a thousand suns using mainly his speed from earlier and small amounts of added force.

He watched his opponent crouching where the last impact and him had landed, and the subsequent tremor that seemed to radiate through Isaac's body. Seems that's a new ability for him, Alex briefly thought to himself as he watched his classmate a mixture of a serious aura radiating off of him mixed with the inklings of terror. Terror directed inward and scarcely contained by his body at this point. Yet he fought on.   Every second that passed was more heat building within his body, the trapped flames he created and absorbed into his body thrashing, hoping to be free and building up their fury. More heat, more fire, and more fury all lying in wait within his heart all while eating him from the inside out. I can't keep this in for too much longer, Alex thought through the pain, the very air around him beginning to wobble and waver as the heat rolling off his body began to intensify more. Even within his body there was only so much it could do to hide their power, and everyone in the training grounds would be able to see that creeping distortion of heat as it spread from Alex like a flood.   This time the white-haired boy wouldn't be given time to think, only to react in a split second as he saw the floor erupt in flames and a wheel stream of them being whipped across. He only had two choices, and Alex didn't hesitate with his pain wracked and adrenaline laden brain as he dove to the side, rolling quickly through the floor's eruption and beneath the stream. Embers caught him regardless, but despite their scalding presence on his skin a mixture of his heat tolerance and the fire within him kept him from noticing their unpleasant presence. I have something worse to deal with right now, his mind screamed at him as he unsteadily to face Isaac as he got down into a sprinter's pose.   Something big was about to happen, and Alex knew it in that moment. Alex's blue eyes narrowed in concentration, his clothing smoldering with the presence of Isaac's orange flames before all at once they were snuffed out as his body erupted in fire. Dangerous blue flame that encased his entire body for a moment before being pulled back within himself, absorbed and contained alongside the remainder of his power. A constant funnel to compliment the building fury in his chest, and as the flames cleared out and he stood to face Isaac truly. His eyes had become a radiant, star-like blue and white gleaming within his skull just like his smoldering veins, and the steam that vented out from his pours came off like a cascade nearly eclipsing his body in their presence. Alex was thankful to see Isaac burst forward at full speed, challenging him to give Isaac his all. The fire within his veins begged him to answer that call, itching to be let loose, the monster within him knowing it'd be free soon regardless of the white-haired boy's choice.   Time seemed to yawn and stretch in that moment as Isaac cleared the space between them. Alex's perception feeling as if it were slowing as he lifted a single hand up, his body turned to the side to make his profile smaller. One palm outstretched with all five fingers spread, his skin began to flake into ash all across the surface of his hand beginning to crumble away as the blue flame within him was about to be awakened. Sputters and embers of uncontrolled flame from the wealth of destruction inside of him managing to sputter out as he aimed it like a gun at Isaac charging towards him. Then something strange happened. Alex's eyes went wide. Wide enough that their burning visage was plain for all to see but was drowned out by the terror and fear that shook through him then. For a flash of a second, he saw his old home and his parents in lieu of his classmate. The flames screamed in his mind through their heat and action, Do it! Finish this!   Right when Isaac was at a point where he was likely to be unable to dodge, nearly point blank with the white-haired boy he threw his forward hand upward into the sky over his hand screaming out in rippling agony and defiance against his own flames. From that crumbling palm came forth a raging torrent of blue flame, a devastating wall of blue flames burning so hot they were nearly white. The product of his heart, mind, and soul all being poured into his ability as he washed the room in that strangely eerie light in the instant before Isaac's kick landed. More focused on missing his opponent, Alex had no hopes of getting out of the way as his body was sent skidding across the floor from the accumulated force of the impact in the caustic aftermath of his Armageddon Flame.   Soreness rippled throughout his body; the pain of the kick incomparable to the pain he'd pushed onto himself. Yet he could hardly breath, the kick having knocked the wind straight out of him as he lay curled partially onto the floor in the embers of his own fire. Downed and unable to get back up.

Isaac Crysentine

Immediately after seeing his classmate skid across the floor, Isaac ran over to this friend and knelt down beside him. He wasn’t exactly trained yet in first responder tasks, but by a quick look it just looked like Alex was in heavy pain and got the wind knocked out of him. Shit shit shit shit. Isaac kept his head low, completely disappointed in himself in letting the fight get too far. “I’m sorry.”

Sloane Whittier

Sloane's eyes went wide as she watched the kid get kicked across the room. Her mind flickered back to images of the pole flying towards the defenseless teenager and a fine tremor started going through her body. Her pulse quickened. Oh god. Not another one. No no no. Don't let another one be hurt. Her instincts told her to run over to where the boy was lying on the ground, to check on him, make sure he was okay, but she couldn't. Her feet felt like they were glued to the floor. She was frozen in place.

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

His footsteps thudded onto the concrete floor after he landed, having sailed the few yards towards where Alex had skidded to stop. Andre had watched the fight, but there were a hundred other thoughts running through his mind right then too. First, address the elephant in the room--or the boy on the floor rather. "Just give him some space, Isaac. Your kick probably knocked the breath out of him, so he's struggling to pull it back in. Add in that last display likely pushed him to the very limit of his powers considering the reaction." Andre hadn't seen his head hit the ground or anything else that'd warrant a more serious evaluation. But he'd still take a look at Alex when he caught his breath. No, the point now was projecting calm in what wasn't yet an emergency. A needed action he'd taken from his time with the Department.   It wouldn't be needed if they both just tested each other instead of having a dick measuring contest. That was burning--heh--away at Andre right now. That wasn't a test, or if it was it showed how much more they both had to improve. How much we all have to improve. But even as the irritation came, it went. Isaac was young, hungry, and the only way for him to learn was through mistakes. Seeing the panic in the young man's eyes was a lesson being taught. "Isaac, when he catches his breath, check the rest of him. A simple series of questions, make sure his pupils can focus, and that nothing is hurt." Might as well train basic first aid too. Looking over at Sloane, he confirmed what he thought he saw from the corner of his eye before he had moved. And that was she hadn’t moved. Beyond wide eyes and a stiff posture, she didn't do anything. She could have stopped his slide or held him up. So what was going on with her? Another thing to talk about.

Sloane Whittier

Seeing that Andre had it covered, her muscles finally relaxed. She twitched and pushed her hair back behind her ears. 'Andre, you got this covered. I'm gonna go back up with Luna.' She turned around quickly and headed for the door before anyone could see that her face was flushed and her breathing was shallow. She stepped into the elevator and stared at the buttons. She made a last-minute change, pressing the button for the Suites instead.

Alexander King

The white-haired boy wheezed on the floor, his entire body thrumming with the pain of his power bursting free from his body. The skin on his left hand smoldering and cracked, the faintest hints of blue embers still clinging to it. His eyes were wide not near as frantic as they'd been a moment ago, but the struggle to breath was a monumental one. It took one wheezing, wet cough to wrack his body before he began to move again. He shifted his weight onto his good palm and began to push himself up into a sitting position. The adrenaline dulled a great deal of the pain, but he knew that his hand would be killing him later. Yet in spite of all that pain and the struggle to breath slowly being overcome, a familiar smile slowly crept across his face. Such an expression framed by droplets of streaming sweat and unbidden tears wrought from both pain and relief.   "'M fine Victory," he grunted as he cradled his left hand to his chest, "The kick just fucking hurt..." He trailed off, looking towards where he'd landed. Lucky I hit my side and not my head, he thought to himself as pain bloomed along his side and arm where he'd skid across the smooth floor. The smoothness of the floor also made it a lot more of a pleasant fall, Alex's mind reeled before he focused on Isaac shaking his head slowly. "It’s all good man. I just..." He took a deep breath before loosing a ragged cough as he pounded on his chest as if it'd stop the burning in his sternum, "I'd rather get kicked then see what would've happened if I hit back." He didn't even try to stand up, and his voice was quiet and strained. Though the college student seemed to be mostly alright barring his hand, "I got a bit carried away, huh?" He tried to laugh, but the sound was dry and humorless as he raked his fingers through his hair.

Isaac Crysentine

Seeing his classmate get himself back together brought Isaac a sigh a relief. What the hell is he even thinking, trying to fight me as a Rank 1? Isaac sat next to his friend, still in a slight state of shock at what he had done. "You're good to be on the team, but I'm not sure how willing I am to let you into the field just yet. In limited capacity, maybe, but that's just my opinion. You need to be able to control your power properly without letting it consume you, literally." He felt a sense of urgency to protect this man who he felt was a more inexperienced version of him, and also to properly train his fire so he could at least be capable of controlling it somewhat when they went after Bolt.

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

His eyes followed Sloane as she walked towards the elevator. Definitely going to need to have a talk. Eyes snapping towards Alexander when the young man spoke, his face remained in that stoic mask as he listened to their exchange. He heard Isaac's position on the young man, and honestly--part of him agreed with that for everyone. Isaac had a hot head, so did Roslyen it seemed. Luna was young, Alex was inexperienced, Sloane was...going through whatever. And he--Well I'm too afraid of what my powers can do.   Problem was, the world didn't wait for people to be ready. When a fire started, you threw on your uniform and got on the truck, nerves and preparedness be damned. You did what you had to do. "Let's go guys. We can finish up the team meeting and get the rest of the things sorted out. But take a few to grab a shower or a change of clothes if you need to." Andre needed time to think, time alone. So, he was going to wait down here for a moment and digest everything.

Roslyen Van Steele

Rosy came down after the fight, wondering what took everyone so long. She had long since cleaned out just about everything in the fridge they had directed her to. She consumed more calories a day then an adult lion on days she didn't work out or use her powers. Seeing the fire boys were done and Andre was standing alone, she leaned on the wall watching him for a moment before speaking just loud enough so he would know she was here.   "Leading a team is a lot like a show. Sometimes the show goes perfect, and the crowd is wild. Sometimes nothing goes right, and fans want a refund." She didn't know much on what was going on, but she knew a man lost in thought and perhaps even overwhelmed when she saw one. She had seen it many times on performers first shows, or at least first big shows. "You can't let the fear of things going wrong stop you from getting up on stage and shaking your ass with the best of them. That said, it’s never wrong to look for advice. Care to talk?" Roslyen had tossed her sweatshirt back on, covering herself up modestly.

Isaac Crysentine

Isaac offered out his hand to his friend, hoping to get him back on his feet. "Let's go, Alex. We got a lot of talking we need to do." The others were already on their way out, and soon he made his way up the stairs as well.

Alexander King

Following Isaac's lead and heeding Andre's call, the white-haired boy took Isaac's hand and pulled himself sluggishly to his feet. "Yeah--yeah... Just give me a second to waddle my way up there."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Andre watched as the two young men left and let his thoughts take him as he started to shuffle through them before Roslyen's voice pulled him out of it. It took a second to compose his face, a slight twinge of annoyance tampered down since it wasn't the amazon's fault. "It's different when it's not your fear." Andre said without turning around, his thoughts from a moment ago turning into words. "It's fear for them, for their safety, their lives. Fear for the City and the people in it. It's easy for me to get up and put myself at risk, I've done it for a year now as buildings burned down before I trained up my powers. Not really sure how much I could take. How much fire or smoke I could handle."   Turning around, sliding his hands in the pockets of his sweats, he gave a small smile. "Mainly on my mind right now are just thoughts. What to do next, that sort of thing. Advice would be appreciated, but the fact is I'm not the leader here. Not officially. I wasn't selected or chosen. I'm just the oldest so I spoke up first, I guess. Biggest problem is all this," He waves his hand around, "Is being made up on the fly. And I don't know what suggestion to give as the next direction."

Roslyen Van Steele

Rosy gave a small shrug and started to walk towards Andre. "You’re right, it’s not my fear, but it once was. I had my first day on the stage too." Rosy gave a small laugh remembering going from a humble YouTube singer to being offer a small time show over in Hollywood at a small nightclub. Walking in front of Andre she smiled down to him, setting her hands on her hips as she spoke. "But analogy aside I want to be on this team too, so it is kinda my problem. The smoke and flames aren't just for the civilians... I only spent a small time in the army, but I spent a long time in the mob… Or at least around mobsters. I know how quick a team effort goes from all good to one guy flaking and getting everyone killed. "Roslyen spoke rather seriously, gone was her normal higher pitch, almost pixie like happiness that often drenched her tones. She meant every word she said and was clearly quite worried. I'm not the oldest, though me and you may have the most real-world experience… and I'm not talking about fighting, just living outside in the world. You understand this isn't a game, and while I might joke around..." Rosy looked away for a moment and shook her head, remembering her last bodyguard’s death at someone who wanted to kill her daddy.   "You may not want to lead this team Victory, but I don't think you have a choice because if it came to a vote, who do you think we would vote for... If you want advice, I'm willing to give plenty. Even know a PMC or two, if you’re willing to speak to them, but the first bit of advice I would offer is know what you need to ask for. Second piece is kinda simple, we all know what’s at risk… and if they don't, then show them or show them the door." Rosy knew she was being harsh, maybe even a bit too harsh, but she meant what she said. She may be a bit happy go lucky, but she understood this wasn't about her. She had been an outspoken Evo since day one, being forced to live here in a city she barely knew at first for her own safety as she was hunted and targeted by maniacs, world governments, and honestly anyone who wanted a powerful Evo dead or alive. To her, this was her life's work. Not a game. Just like her shows, she would have fun and laugh but knew when to be full business. She would work as hard as she needed to and far beyond. She wanted Andre to not only understand this, but know everyone had to, or they would just be another failure.

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Andre couldn't help but chuckle after pausing for a moment on her words. "I--" He swallowed the small laugh, "I meant it's not a fear for myself, Roslyen, not that it’s not a fear you can share. Bad choice of words on my part." Her words--beyond the miscommunication--echoed in his mind as he chewed on her statements. There really isn't a choice, not right now at least. "I know I don't have a choice. Deep down I know that. And I also know I wouldn't forgive myself if I let things be and something happened to anyone." Images of his friends and teammates injured or worse flickered through his mind, an ember of fear--fear for their safety--growing in his gut.   "Problem is, no one knows what to ask for. This team, all of this, is a weird mishmash of Emergency Response, Military, Government Evos, all of that. But is that what it needs to become? Saving people isn't just stopping bad guys, I feel that in my core. It's making sure bad guys don't come out, that normal lives can be lived." The memories of the University students, dead there on the floor after probably just trying to spend a night free from worries about class before some maniac attacked them were seared into his grey matter. It cannot stand.   Unconsciously moving closer to the Amazon, he gave her a heartfelt smile that seemed weighed down with a burden, but a stance that said he'd carry the burden. "Thank you for the offer, Roslyen. Truly. It's one I intend to take you up on, asking for advice, as soon as I can sort out what I need help with. Right now, though, I know what we need to do. We need to get organized and out there. The only way to help people is to be out there. We just have to do it carefully." Pausing, he locked eyes with her. "I am glad you're on the team. I think with you with us we will pull through."

Roslyen Van Steele

Rosy scooted a bit closer to Andre with a large much more 'normal' smile. The massive girl tossed an arm over Andre's shoulder and drew him into a hug. Thank you. Coming from you an honest to god superhero, it means a lot…" Rosy paused a bit looking up towards the ceiling before letting the man go, thinking a bit to herself. She needed to give him an answer, not really, but it felt as if she did. What should this team be? Would it be just another government agency? Would it become just some ragtag wannabe emergency service? No, it honestly needed to be more. "I'm unsure what we need to become… but I know just another government set of Evos won’t work. With all due respect, there is a reason I haven't left New Victoria in the last couple years ,and it’s not the nice weather… If we run for the government, we will be nothing but dogs attacking other dogs... We need to do this for the people, both the normal humans and our Evo brothers. Not just stopping bad guys but helping everyone we can." Rosy gave a sigh and looked towards Andre once more. This time an odd smirk in her eyes. "Come on, let’s go get some more food and meet up with the rest, though I have an offer. Come to my house when you get a chance. Lift some weights set up for people like us. It will be good for you."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Raising an eyebrow at the offer, Andre asked the most obvious question that came to his mind as a celebrity invited him over to her house. "You have those new high-density weights? I've been looking everywhere for those. I'd love to stop by and check them out. I've been bending the bars at the gym recently with the weights I put on it." Somewhere in the universe, there was someone looking down and just chuckling to themselves at the earnest man and his pure focus. "I agree. We need to be more. First, we just have to work on getting started, and then we aim for that better outcome. I'll run to the top floor; I can always grab a bite to eat after. I want to set some things up with Luna before everyone gathers again."

Roslyen Van Steele

"Yeah, that sounds good to me. And yeah, I have high density weights along with a few high strength cable machines rooted into the foundation of the house, you know the machine that gets heavy without using weights?" She got that she sounded a bit dumb, but being a celebrity, she rarely went to anything more than her private gym or trainer. Turning, she headed for the stairs waving her hand back to him with a small evil smile. And of course, a reinforced boxing ring. Getting the steam out is pretty good for you... and I finally might have a partner I won’t break in half." She laughed at her own bad joke and made her move out of the room fully. "Imma go find some food before I eat through your entire food budget for the year."

Exiting the Elevator, Andre made his way back to the conference room. Opening the door, he saw Luna hard at work as she scrolled through some futuristic like interface looking at the videos from the tests. He decided to let her continue, since he needed to do some jotting down of notes anyways. Grabbing a notepad he brought--Old fashion when it comes to notes--he took a seat and started writing as he waited for the others to come up.

Isaac Crysentine

Isaac had come back from the training grounds with a small sign of distress on his face. He saw Andre sitting at the chairs with Luna not far off, and he decided he should just sit down too. Quietly, Isaac took his last seat, giving himself some space and just relaxing a bit.

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Still writing notes, Andre glanced up and saw Isaacs’s expression. “Pretty rare for you to be silent. What’s on your mind?” He asked as he finished up his notes, having his own words he wanted to say to his friend but trying to see what was eating the hothead first.

Isaac Crysentine

The fire user leaned forward slightly, looking Andre directly in the eye. "I let myself get carried away. I hurt Alex, and I didn't control myself when I knew this was just a test." Isaac let a small flame dance in his palm, looking down on it and keeping it contained in its confined space. "If it helps, he's good. Alex would be good for the team."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

“Yeah, you could have hurt him. If he wasn’t a fire user with some natural resistance you probably would have.” Andre returned Isaacs’s look, his eyes saying that he meant every word. “Isaac, we’re supposed to save people. You and I, our powers are dangerous. If I lose control while trying to hold someone, I can snap their spine. If you need to melt a beam to save people trapped underneath and you lose control, they die.”   Andre paused and let his words settle into his friend’s mind. “But there’s no way to learn that except through fucking up. That’s what happened. And now you need to sear that lesson into your head so you can teach it to Isaac and other people who join the team. We’re all learning, but we learn together. And then we pass those lessons on.” A thin smile curled his lips upwards as he set down the pen and leaned back.   “Alex is a great addition though. He handled you after all, and almost had your ass.” A glance tells his friend it’s a jab and a joke to lighten the mode. “You’re getting better at control though. There weren’t any out of control fires. Keep working on it.”

Isaac Crysentine

Isaac looked back at his friend, letting all of his words bury themselves in his mind. "You're right, I think I'm keeping this lesson with me forever. I can't let myself get carried away like that. And what do you mean Alex almost had me!" He laughed a bit, going along with the joke. "And thank you, I've been training a lot with my teacher. I think he definitely knows what he's doing and if he lets me, I'll bring everyone around to him after my next training session with him."

Sloane Whittier

Stepping off the elevator, she looked around. Her favorite everything's fineeee mask was back in place. "Cool, the gang's all here. King of Pop, you good now? Looked like you took a nasty hit. Isaac didn't take it easy on you."

Alexander King

In the background the white-haired college student leaned against the wall, not bothering to try to seem slick as he waved his still smoking hand through the air slowly. The air didn't do anything to cool off his hand and instead it only stung as he cradled it back against his chest, "Ahah... Yeah! I'm alright, mostly. I'll have a nasty bruise for sure, but nothing I can't handle!" He puffed his chest out and glanced over towards Sloane and then back to Andre and Isaac. "I'm just glad neither of us got too hurt." Despite the pain a small, genuine smile spread across his lips. He'd managed to fight back against the flames and avoid hitting Isaac with that final attack. What would've happened? A part of him wondered as he thought back to the flames burning near white with their intense heat, a wall of fire above him that had met its end prematurely. Better not to dwell on that, he shook the thoughts free of his head, "I'd like an icepack... Or a few, and likely something to help with the burns. This one's pretty bad."

Sloane Whittier

"I'm sure we've got supplies here somewhere. Not to mention our very own Firefighter used to seeing this stuff. You're in luck!" She sat in one of the office chairs, did a quick spin, and then sent a message to him privately. 'Don't worry, Alex. We'll be better referees in the future. Today I was slacking a bit and I'm offering you a personal apology for that. I won't let it happen again.'

Roslyen Van Steele

Appearing not long after, having somehow found more food, with a protein bar between her lips and two more wrapped up in her hands… Still not enough but at least she wouldn't get hunger pains. Looking around as she walked in, she gave a small smile and moved to the corner and her phone. She really didn't know how to act here, and she understand how to act was everything. One on one was far easier than this group of odd people. Staring at her phone she sent texts to her manager asking for a limo to come grab her stocked with food. She was starving, as her body was eating through her reserves repairing its damaged muscles.

Alexander King

He gave a slow nod, drawing in a tense breath through his teeth before exhaling slowly as he sucked up the pain for the time being. "Good to know, I'll be sure to get fixed up in a second." Alex said before his eyes went wide, his head whipping from side-to-side before his eyes narrowed at Sloane in confusion. It took him a minute to register exactly what had happened, but eventually he replied to Sloane, That was weird, give me some warning next time if you can. But, uh... No problem? Don't beat yourself up, I wouldn't say that was your fault by any means. Thanks, either way. He thought with a smile before leaning back against the wall, trying to get comfortable again.

Sloane Whittier

'Everyone wants warning! It's not like I'm about to gesture "Okay I'm gonna talk to you know" with my hands before I start talking to someone. What's a girl to do?' She laughed out loud to herself. 'Eh we'll figure it out, I'm sure. But shout any time you need me. I really do try to not make it a habit to just pop into someone's head. If you think about me or directly to me, it amplifies it enough that I pay attention.'

Alexander King

Fair, but hey, warning still would be nice even if it’s a bit goofy looking! Like a mental knock on the door or something, you don't wanna open the door and start hearing someone's weird thoughts, right?! His thoughts were lined with faux exasperation, his eyes slowly shutting as he simply listened to the room rather than watching it. I'll keep that in mind though, thanks. I'll do my best not to be annoying about it!

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Standing up once everyone was gathered, he put on a thin smile. "Excellent work today everyone. I think we can all agree, unless there's anything preventing it, that Roslyen and Alex are offered a position on this team. I'd like to congratulate them." Andre did a slow clap which he noticed took almost everyone more than a second to join. Awkward applause, always a necessity in team meetings. "I know we all have a lot we want to say. But I'll have to grab the wheel for a second. We've done what we can here so far. In progress we have Luna looking at resumes for staff members to man the main room, so we have communications, research, all that. That'll take a bit to get set up. Same goes for our supplies and facilities. Case in point, no, Alex, we don't have any burn cream that'll help that right now. We do have ice in the freezer."   Running his hand through his curls he sighed. "There's a lot to get done. On the front and back ends. For now, though, I think our biggest thing is getting out there. Letting people see us. So, I've drawn up some plans." Looking down at his crude notes, he started rattling off. "First and foremost, we need to make a schedule. Both an official schedule and an 'on-call' schedule for when you're not on patrol but you are able to get called in. Send Luna and I your times. Last I checked with the mayor we are on some weird salary, but I also know a lot of you have other duties to attend to. For now, let's say 20 hours a week, minimum. Since this is my primary job now, I'll be putting in closer to 50 or 60. Second point, unless you get called out or I give the okay, you are not to go out on patrols alone. You will always have a partner, either on call or with you." Andre wasn't about to let his team members get picked off one by one on their first few patrols.   "Beyond that, I'm open to ideas. Us getting out there is just the biggest thing I see on our to do. Letting the City know that AERI is around, and out there, and saving lives. I want us starting small and never saying no. A flat tire, a house fire, a lost grandma. People need to see us. But, again, any other thoughts?"

Roslyen Van Steele

Rosy was the first to step up. Literately using her massive size to her advantage stepping up next to Andre with a large bright smile. “Actually, I wouldn't mind putting in those kinds of hours as well, Andre. I am kinda grounded right now, not really allowed to leave the city, so I rarely do more than teach some classes downtown... But I do have a few things to say. First, Luna, is it? I can send an entire team your way, maids, tech crew... I... Umm." Rosy looked down, playing with her hands a bit as she spoke. "I may have already prepped half a team of people, paid to be on standby... from phone operators, dry-cleaners for super suits, to a set of personal trainers with specialty in Evos…" Rosy looked up with a large I'm sorry smile while starring out towards her new teammates. She had done most of this earlier in the day… and by her, she meant her personal mangers who quote, claimed she wouldn't let Rosy walk in there without making sure they treated her like a superstar. She was damn lucky her manger wasn't here demanding Andre make her leader... “Umm second if I can… Costumes… It’s stupid and kinda cheesy, but symbols mean a lot and like Andre said we need to be seen… And if anyone needs anything don't be afraid to ask… I honestly don't mind. From a ride to, well, anything you need. I can't even spend most my money right now… For the past three years I've been stuck here in New Victoria."

Sloane Whittier

Sloane had been off to the side, but stood and put her hands on her hips, taking on a more authoritative tone. "First off, Alex, don't put ice on it directly. That only makes burns worse. Tsk tsk, fireman." She gave a chiding look over to Andre. "But we can make a compress for you, and you can run it under some cool water first. One of us will take you over to an urgent care facility and they'll get it cleaned up for you. We definitely need to prioritize getting supplies in here as soon as we can. Not just for basic first aid, but for any number of serious injuries too. It might even be worth having a doc or two on staff. I can't imagine fighting bad guys is going to leave us needing only a band aid. Case in point, what happened here today with friendly fire. Get it? Friendly fire?"   She took a quick pause to chuckle at her own joke and then continued on. "As for our interviews, I'll work with the Chief and Luna to get set up at the station. I've realized that since my role here is going to be hidden as much as possible, it may be that I'm not directly in the interview and instead listening in from another room. So, we'll see how that'll works out. Andre, maybe Rosy, you two should be working out where to host the physical part of the interviews so we aren't doing it here, like I said earlier. I'm sure we'll get a lot of visitors wanting to join us as we become more visible."   "That brings me to another point... what is our max capacity here? How many people are we willing to bring onto this team? I don't think we need every single Evo out there. We can't be taking on anyone that applies."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Writing out a list, Andre started to mumble. "Three Doctors I think, 8 hour shifts always on standby. We have an open room for a medical wing here. Better to keep it in house. Add Three Nurses and Three CNAs for a medical staff of Nine. I think teams of six floor staff, three shifts, so 18. That'll give us enough to handle calls, dispatch, etc. Training staff, which doesn't need to be full time. Cleaners, like Roslyen suggested. We're looking at around 50 people or so for staff. All of them need to be cleared, but all are necessary." Finishing the list of positions he thought was needed, he nodded. "Good. If Roslyen can help, let's have Luna start working through her staff's background, just to be safe."   "Sloane, I like that plan. Take the lead on that and see if we can get some people hired for us that work from the Interview site. A brain doc or someone should be good to do the basic interviews, and maybe we schedule follow ups where you're nearby. As to your second question, I think we need to look at getting three teams of two for the Response team to start taking 8-hour shifts, and a secondary for the Vanguard Team with Sloane and support team with Luna. So that would be 10 for right now. What do you all think?"

Roslyen Van Steele

Giving a thumbs up Rosy stepped back out of the way of the others. “That sounds good to me. Though I will say, Friday I have a concert. My first one in a hot minute with both White Lotus, a singer from Korea, and a band from the U.K. I won't be able to do much unless something massive happens then.”

Isaac Crysentine

Isaac had sat quietly, his mind running through several possibilities but ultimately blanking as he was rather tenuous in on-the-spot questions like this. He heard everyone speak, but when the big adults had finished speaking Isaac chimed in. "I have a small request: Alex and I go on Patrol together and we call ourselves the Fire Force of the AERI team. This is completely necessary." He let the words hang in the air for a minute, a complete look of seriousness on his face. "On another note, I do think Rosy brought up a good point. Costumes are somewhat of a necessity, but any and all utilities we might need are important as well. Not to mention also getting the suites finished so I can sleep here and not worry about putting my parents or drunk college kids at risk." Isaac's mind wandered back to the 3 who died on that fateful night, and his expression grew sterner and somber.

Roslyen Van Steele

There was a giddy clap as she eyed in on the fire boy. She had had a bunch of costumes drawn out. She hadn't known who was on this team besides Victory, but she had concepts. Of course, there was a costume for Victory, but she would hide that till he came to work out with her. Yes, costumes are necessary, and I have one that would fit you perfectly! Straight from France, you'll love it!"

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

"I have to disagree, Isaac. I don't think any patrols should become regular. If someone can predict it, they can respond to it. We need to mix them up and not let people catch onto who is where." Andre replied to the first part seriously. "To the second part, I think we need to grow a bit more refined before we have team names inside a team name, don't you think?"   "Personally, I was thinking we split Roslyen and I up with Isaac and Alex. Roslyen has some Army training which I think should include basic first aid, so do I. At least until we complete our First Responder training, we need to make sure our patrols have someone who can help people on scene. But if you two finish up your EMT training fast, that makes our rotations less predictable. So, I want you two completing that ASAP." He said to the two younger individuals on the team. "All of you should, to be honest, if you don't have the Certs already."

Isaac Crysentine

The orange fire user bowed his head, sighed, and put his hand up to his head and saluted Andre. “Yes sir. I’ll learn the First Responder thingies right away.”

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Trying not to laugh at the salute but thankful Isaac could understand and tackle the important steps, he looked around the table. “If there’s nothing else, let’s get those schedules into Luna. Sloane, I’d like to have a chat about the interview process after this. Roslyen, try and work with Luna on getting us some staff. Maybe take a trip to the Hospital too to see if there’s any all-round medical staff we can poach. I’ll trust you two to handle that. Alex and Isaac, you know what to do, and then we will start our patrols. Let’s get it going everyone. We have people to save and a city to protect.”

Alexander King

His gaze bounced around between everyone as they spoke, soaking in all the details as best he could like the smoking carcass of a sponge he was. “Aye aye Captain.” He merely chimed as he gave a nod to both Andre and Isaac specifically before looking over to Sloane. “Ah yeah... Thanks for the tips for the burn!”

Sloane Whittier

"All the plans sound solid to me. I think we're on our way to building something worthwhile here. Let's hope it all comes together like we want it to and that we don't have any big surprises in the meantime. And Roslyen, we're thankful to have you and your resources on our team. It'll go a long way towards getting us where we want to be."   Turning to face Andre, she said "I'm good to talk whenever you are, big guy. Just say when."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Clapping his hands, Andre gave a stern nod. “Good. Then let’s get to work people. I want those schedules in to start patrols ASAP. Make sure you get everyone’s contact number. We’ll sort out better comms soon, I believe Luna is already cranking out some tech for us. For now, meeting adjourned.”   ’We can go to the Suites to chat. I need to change.’ He mentally messaged to Sloane as he headed to the elevator to go down a floor.

Sloane Whittier

'Hey some warning would be nice!' She smirked as she followed him into the elevator. 'Kidding, kidding. Why do I feel like I'm in trouble?' and the doors closed as they headed down.

Isaac Crysentine

"Alright, you all heard the man. Let’s get our shit done. Alex, let's learn how to keep people from not dying by breathing into them and stuff like that. There's a few food places I want to hit up in the meantime too." He started to walk away towards the other elevator leading upwards, beckoning for his friends to come along.

Roslyen Van Steele

Roslyen was halfway out the door as Andre adjourned the meeting, walking out towards where her driver was waiting.
AERI Suites, Victoria Field

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Stepping off of the elevator and onto the suite floor, Andre opened the door to the first suite on the left, which was supposed to be his room. Leaving the door open, Sloane could see there was a neatly made bed, a desk and chair with nothing on it but a laptop, and a gold and black uniform hanging off the closet door. It was a decent size suite for the amount shoved onto this second floor and Andre walked over to grab a change of clothes he had stored in the dresser. "So, want to tell me what going on?"

Sloane Whittier

She looked around the room and leaned up against the doorway, crossing her arms in front of her chest. "What's going on with what? Not sure what you mean."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Stepping around a corner where she couldn't see him, he started to strip off his shirt and exchange it for the new one he grabbed. "Has anyone told you that you suck at lying? If not, you can read my mind." 'She sucks at lying.' Next came the sweatpants exchanged for shorts--because it was too damn hot for that nonsense outside. I need more breathable material, like some of those Hanes cooling wear. "You almost ran out of the training room as soon as you could. You're less chatty than normal. You left and didn't go to the first floor which means you dipped somewhere else. And most of all, you froze, Sloane." Changed and stepping from around the corner, he stared at her. "You could have stopped Alex from falling any second, well before I got there. You could have cut those two off before I did. You didn't. So let me ask again, as a new friend hopefully and as a teammate definitely, want to tell me what's going on?"

Sloane Whittier

Her eyes flicked down to the floor, suddenly very interested to see whether or not they'd gone with tile, vinyl, polka dotted carpet, literally anything else other than this conversation. "I've got it under control. I already apologized to Alex. It won't happen again." She shifted to putting her weight on one foot and started looking around at the walls. "Room could use some sprucing though. Some personal touches. I'll have to add some things to mine for sure. Don't want to stare at bare walls any time I have to stay here."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

“Do you?” Andre asked, ignoring the—very weak—attempt to Tokyo drift around the topic. “I know plenty of people who said they had things under control. And a surprise to no one, they didn’t. People got hurt, put in danger, all because amazing people thought too much of themselves and let their pride grow too big.” The Rosewood Apartment fire sprung to mind. The first day he had to use his powers to save a couple trapped under a beam while Franky was frozen, some sort of flashback to a time before he got there. “If you tell me you’re fine, I’ll treat you like you are until you prove it’s a lie. But you’re one of the few who know that in our present field, mistakes are going to come with pain. Better we leave those mistakes to things we can’t fix."

Sloane Whittier

"Fine. You're not gonna let this go. It's that kid. The one from the first practice. I saw her in what happened to Alex. And yeah. I froze. But it's fine. I'll deal with it, and I'll be fine. Like I said, it won't happen again."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

“It’s my job to not let things go. It’s all our job. Making sure our team is okay.” His voice softened a bit, truly meaning his words. “But if happened once, Sloane, it’ll happen again if you don’t do anything about it. Ignoring it won’t help. Talking about it might. What is it about the kid that stuck with you? She’s fine, everything was okay. We messed up and we learned, right?”

Sloane Whittier

"Yup. We messed up and we learned. Hence, it'll never happen again. It's. Fine."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Looking at the woman, the lack of belief in that weightless conviction was obvious in his eyes. “Sure it will be.” Another thing to watch out for. Isaac, Alex, the list grows. God all he really wanted to do was take a vacation…after one day of work no less.

Sloane Whittier

"Look, I'm not going to let another kid get hurt like that on my watch again. Much less by my own actions. It's not an option. She could have died. She could have died, and it would have been my fault. So. It won't happen again."

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Then what happened today. Andre thought of her words of it not being an option and then back to the two dead students at the University. Their faces and pained expressions burned into his mind. “Okay.” He barely knew the woman enough to try and help her work through whatever this was. And maybe she would be okay. Or she wouldn’t. All he could do was he prepared to step in.

Sloane Whittier

'I already said today was a mistake. It won't be repeated.' "Seriously. Think about getting some decorations in here soon. I can help if you'd like. Or I'm sure Rosy wouldn't mind either, but you may end up with pink walls. Have a good night." She straightened herself and walked back towards the elevator, clicking the button to leave.

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Standing there for a moment, Andre eventually moved to his bed and sat on it, head resting on his knuckles. So much on his mind. Too much. I need a workout.

Sloane Whittier

She tapped her foot as she waited for the elevator, but just as it dinged, she spun back around. "I want us to be friends too. You more than any of the others so far. I'm just stubborn as fuck. I don't ever want to see that look on someone's face again. I could feel her fear... It's only been two days. Today could have been prevented... but it's only been two days. I'm trying. Okay?"

DeAndre Walker (Victory)

Pulled from his thoughts and looking out the open door, he smiled. “That’s a much more honest and acceptable answer. Much better of me thinking you’re a heartless mind reader.” He joked with that last line.   “Keep trying and I’ll be here to help. I’ll warn you though, if we are going to be friends, there aren’t many things that can be stubborn in front of me. Have a good night, Walkie Talkie.”

Sloane Whittier

"Pfft. Bet my stubbornness wins out. See ya, Smallville." She smiled and it reached her eyes, which is something that hadn't happened all day. She ran back into the elevator, "letting go" of the button that was holding the doors open as she did.
