The Merling Court

The Merling Court is a large town that exists underneath the Scoundrel's Sound. It is inside of a massive cave only accessible from underneath it. By swimming the miles underneath the rock that houses the cave, one can then swim upwards in the center into the Salt Lagoon, a saltwater lake located in a cave inside a freshwater river. The town is carved from the rock and built up with wood from shipwrecks that seems to be drawn to the lagoon. The town is also the headquarters of the Reaver's Republic, who pay citizens of the Court to mine salt, build ships, and test experimental submersible technology.

Government

The Merling Court exists in a state of near-anarchy. Residents pay taxes to the Reaver's Republic, but there is no direct governance.

Defences

The underwater nature of the Merling Court proves often to be enough of a deterrent to the enemies of the Reaver's Republic. The only way in or out is through the Salt Lagoon in the center of the town, which is guarded by Earthen Turrets on four small towers, as well as a small force of archers.

Industry & Trade

The Merling Court is the only known producer of salt battery technology, and the foremost location for submersible research and development.

Infrastructure

The Merling Court, carved from underground cave, is mostly literal holes in the wall. Buildings are often built up and fortified with wood scavenged from sunken ships.
