The Empire of the Eternal Sun

More commonly referred to as the Sun Empire, the Empire of the Eternal Sun is one of the three great powers of Fujiyama, locked forever in competition and war with the Empire of the Hidden Moon and The Immortal and Wondrous Horde of Gemai. It counts the Holy Domain of the Rat, the Chiefdoms of the Vanara, and the Sunbound Isles as it's territories. Along with the Moon Empire, it is tied as the most powerful nation in all Fujiyama, and is a fierce rival to the Moon. Since its founding, the Sun Empire has been ruled over by the House of Wu and is split into twenty distinct provinces each named for a portion of the Fujiyaman zodiac. It is primarily made up of conquered peoples, but is ruled by the Hagrin Elves that founded it. The Sun is associated with, as the name suggests, fire and power. It is known to be the first Eastern power to perfect the breeding of dragons, but the Moon contests this. The patron god of the Sun Empire is Leng Tian Sheng, and as such is associated with the Year of Eternal Sun from which it takes its name. Despite the fire motif, Sun culture is heavily affiliated with spirits of water, especially river kami.

Structure

The Empire of the Sun is ruled at the highest level by the Sun Empress. She tasks individual families with protecting specifically carved out territories, these being the Twenty Warlords. The Warlords in turn may reward exception servants with land for a similar purpose, and so on. At current count, there are around a thousand individual lords. Each Warlord is "overseen" by a scholar appointed by the Empress, who are part of such an expansive network of bureaucrats that citizens joke about no one being certain how the government actually works. Each tributary nation of the Empire makes up the territory of one of the Warlords, but in such cases individual governing custom coincides with the Sun practices. For instance, in the Holy Dominion of the Rat, the Nezumi leader of that province is the Rat Warlord, but for internal functions is only the Kingpriest of Lao Shu Po.
