Eastern Dragon

Eastern Dragons are native to the three continents of the Sea of Storms: Goranthia, Lisbeth, and Fujiyama. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes but are generally considered the same species, in the same way that all Elves are the same species. Eastern Dragons, referred to hereafter as dragons for simplicity, share a wide array of characteristics.

Physical Traits

Dragons range in size from small horse to ship. They walk on four legs and fly with wings. Most breeds of dragon have two wings, but some rare exceptions have four. They have an interior "air sac" that makes them weigh significantly less than they would otherwise, allowing for both flight and natural buoyancy. All dragons have sharp claws and large teeth, and are omnivorous with a preference for meat. All dragons are heavily muscled but some breeds are sleek and serpentine in shape, all have long tails that helps them maintain balance while flying or swimming. Dragons live for around three hundred years and will reach their full adult size within about six months. From there, dragons are incredibly different depending on breed.    Juvenile dragons hatch from eggs, the smallest of which are the size of large dogs and are extremely heavy. While in the shell, the unhatched dragonet learns humanoid languages from those around them, which seems to be a supernatural ability. They are ravenous after hatching but are able to talk and fly right away. Dragons inherently are able to speak Draconic, even without hearing anyone speak inside the shell. From hatching, dragons are fully independent and are not considered babies in the same way that humanoids are. Many dragons are baffled by humanoid reproduction and refer to babies as "eggs", with most breeds sharing an instinctive fondness and protectiveness of humanoid children and dragon eggs.

Mental Traits

Dragons are individuals with roughly the same mental abilities as humanoids, though they do all share certain traits of personality and cognition. All dragons are greedy by nature, though the level of this varies by greed and individual each dragon is capable of keeping track of the value of it's horde at all times. Dragons often keep their wealth with banks or chosen guardians and are able to recite just about every purchase they've ever made. Because of this ability, most dragons have an easy time learning mathematics. Most dragons are more willing to go to war than humanoids and get excited about fighting, even after experiencing battlefield horrors or crippling wounds. They are extremely jealous by nature but very rarely steal, and view theft as a crime worse than murder. The killing of a dragon's humanoid friends is typically seen as a kind of theft. Dragon obsession with treasure can extend to all things "pretty", such as art and music, and almost all dragons can be distracted by fireworks shows if they are not properly trained to ignore them on the field of battle.

The Bond

All dragons choose an individual humanoid to bond with. Each breed tends to have patterns of preferences, such as Shrieking Raiders picking young girls or Regal Fires exclusively bonding with nobility. This bond is intense and the dragon views it's chosen companion as it's best friend, closest partner, and most valuable treasure. The humanoids in these relationships generally find themselves equally attached to their dragon, but it is currently unknown if this is a supernatural effect at play or if the affections of dragons just genuinely win people over that easily. A dragon betrayed by it's companion will enter a deep depression, and one who's companion is killed will almost always exact bloody vengeance.
