Steele's Wolves
The Steele's Wolves are the foremost mercenary company based in The River Kingdoms. They are known as an eccentric collective, and famed for their skills as bandit hunters. They are named for their captain, Ephraim Steele.
Composition
Manpower
The Wolves currently have three hundred and fifty mercenaries ready for combat, as well as four hundred non-mercenary employees and followers.
Vehicles
The Wolves maintain a "fleet" of specially designed war wagons- armored carriages that are used as improvised cover. The wagons have the ability to unfold sheets of steel along their sides to provide near-instant fortifications, as well as walled battlements on top of the wagons. The unfolding sheets can be locked together, creating a strong structure. The company maintains sixty horses as well as fifteen giant ants, each of which has two sets of armor. They also have a singular captured Infantry Bipod that has been modified for speed and combat against infantry rather than other mechanized units. The bipod, which is named Steele's Boast, has a modified arcane cannon designed to shoot offensive shrapnel rather than single large blasts, largely inspired by the Whispering Guard's surprise balls.
Structure
The company takes all orders from Commander Steele himself, who is in turn assisted by six lieutenants that are hand-picked by the commander.
History
As a young man who had just finished his first tour with the Imperial Legion, Ephraim Steele set out to seek his fortune among the mercenary companies of The Arid, who he had worked closely with during his enlistment. He founded the Wolves shortly after with other young soldiers who did not want to reenlist. The company found modest fame and wealth, securing an exclusive contract with minor Amazwean nobility. In 1428, the company was enlisted by the Sultan of Amazwe to help quell the Gnollish uprisings of the time. The uprisings ended in 1430 with the Battle of Red Sands, and the Wolves found themselves reduced to just seven individuals. Deciding to keep the company together but seek a change of scenery, the band travelled to Steele's old home in The River Kingdoms, where they have established themselves as the most renowned mercenary company in the region.
