Mercenary Companies of Illiria

Mercenary companies, or bands, are not particularly common in most parts of Illiria due to the presence of massive standing armies across most of the continent. However, in the Arid, war is primarily "fought with gold" as the saying goes, with opposing sides racing to hire the biggest and best companies available. Outside of The Arid, mercenaries are most commonly found as individuals or small groups hired for simple tasks, such as guarding caravans. Bands of mercenaries known as sellsails are also employed for counter-piracy.
