Richard IV, The Poet King
Richard IV Gerald Skalxien
Richard IV Skalxien, commonly called the Shaman King for his magical prowess and supposed oracular abilities, ruled the Empire from 1252-1276. The eldest son of Yang II and her husband Gerald Talloaks, the Shaman King took the throne when his mother abdicated due to illness. His reign was mostly uneventful, though he did pass Imperial Edict 4739, known today as the Witch Act, which outlawed the killing of anyone on suspicion of witchcraft or consortation with demons, citing that "it is no great crime to have a conversation, no matter how vile the company". He, his wife Jha Rin (Governor of The Egg), his mother, and most of his loyal servants were killed with poison by his daughters on their fifteenth birthday. The character of the Shaman King, sometimes the Blind Oracle, is a popular figure in plays meant to foreshadow great betrayal. A marble statue in his honor stands before the Great Library of Dragonscale, depicting the Emperor writing, a favored passtime. He wrote many plays of notable quality, including the famous Villain of His Own Tale, which earned him the more popular title Poet King.
