Drassain, the Red Death
Drassain was a red dragon who claimed territory that encompassed the Tegdylun city of Krakendown in the early Elfin Age.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Drassain was a red dragon with remarkably ruby scales and absolutely covered in shining ivory spikes. He was about thirty feet long from snout to tail and was notable among dragons for being unblemished by scars. In humanoid form, he took the shape of an androgynous gemloki studded with ruby piercings and long red hair, with ears pierced for thirteen rings per side. Gold, of course.
Special abilities
As a red dragon, Drassain had a mastery of pyromancy, able to breath a cone of fire twice as large as himself. He had a particular love of mortal pyromancy in addition to the draconic and was as powerful as a mid-level sorcerer. He had, more than his fellow reds, mastery over his nondragon offspring and could command them as though through a mind control spell.
Apparel & Accessories
In his dragon form, Drassain dipped his claws in molten gold each day so as to paint them and had giant rings, thirteen for each side, fitted for his magnificent twin horns. For his elfin persona he preferred a red dress of silk with golden dragon-themed embroidery, and a silver circlet completely covered in rubies and opals.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
His egg was laid during the final days of the Age of Mountains and hatched in the very beginning, the first year of the Elfin Age. As a hatchling, like most dragons he spent most of his time with his mother, comfortably nested around the hot rocks of Yanu-Yanu Island. When the time came that he could fend for himself, he was unceremoniously kicked from the nest and sent to establish his own territory. Which Drassain did, flying south and east across the great northern oceans until he found a mountainous spot in the Gemloki territories that had an old, abandoned mine inside of a not-quite-dormant small volcano. He existed in this way, being given tribute by the local elf shepherds, for almost two hundred years when the arrival of the Tegdylun interrupted his peace. The establishment of the city Krakendown in particular interrupted his hunting of shorebound creatures like walruses and certain whales. The new humans did not know about the tribute and Drassain would then clash with them for another century before finally being slain by a combined force of adventurers led by paladins of both Fortissimusand Kiaru bearing the holy swords Feinlunaand Velator.
Gender Identity
Drassain hatched male and considers himself to be a man- or at least, the draconic equivalent. Oftentimes a dragon's gender identity and presentation only becomes apparent to humanoids when the dragon shifts into its own humanoid form, and even that is not a guarantee as dragons have different ideas about the subject than humans or elves or anything else, and that understanding can also vary between types of dragons. Drassain himself, for instance, works very hard to maintain an androgynous yet feminine-leaning presentation despite his masculine sense of self, he derives great pride from his appearance and has a very intense routine of self-care, bathing in lava every day to brighten and clean his scales and horns and dipping his mighty claws and certain spikes in molten gold to color and soften them. He spends maybe three hours each day just maintaining the look. Vanity, of course, is a common vice among dragons.
Sexuality
Almost all dragons have no concept whatsoever of sexuality. Mating is an act of pleasure or reproduction, almost never as an intimate expression of love or fondness. It is however also used as a mark of status, when a younger dragon mates with an older and more established wyrm. Drassain was no different, hence "sire of the first dracotaur" and the giant pile of hellhounds in his lake of fire.
Education
Drassain was given his education in basic hunting, accounting, and draconic magic from his mother, Magmatia Vulcan. He learned some language from his mate Majesta the Bleeding Moon. As is traditional for young dragons still gaining their strength, he learned some additional magic and practical skills from infiltrating humanoid groups in his mortal guise. In particular, he gained tremendous knowledge of all things underground from minotaur captives and the summoning of devils from his first mortal mate, the siren-elf Anariel.
Employment
Drassain, the Red Death, was a proud and prosperous raider of settlements and extorter of elves.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Drassain had a record of successful battles against other dragons and mortal champions. He defeated the white dragon Recaltorix, slew the mortal knight Derikus Startide, and bested a horde of minotaurs and took their treasure. Sire of the first Dracotaur, master of two dozen hellhounds, and mate of the great black dragon Majesta the Bleeding Moon. His hoard was truly impressive.
Morality & Philosophy
Dragons, as non-mortal beings, are incapable of escaping their cosmic nature. As such, red dragons like Drassain can only be reasoned with within the context of enriching themselves. They exist to burn and to hoard, and Drassain did both constantly.
