Island of Grimanth Geographic Location in Evera | World Anvil

Island of Grimanth

Grimanth, the dragon, is a pet of the Dragon Goddess, but has been sleeping for some time.

Földrajz

Nature-type island. The island is on the back of Costae, a sleeping Greendragon who is Evera's age. The hilly and rocky dry area is occasionally swept by huge storms. The weather is changeable, alternating between dry winds and heavy rains that feed narrow streams.

Flóra & Fauna

The wildlife on the island has adapted to the conditions. There are not many trees to be found, rather tall Foxthorn bushes, the other characteristic shrub is the Storm raspberry. Most of the island is covered by a foot-tall Spruce of the sky, and in shady places Fragrant root grows. There are Blue-headed reeds on the stream banks.
  • Fragrant root: mean it stinks, really. It has broad, round leaves above ground and a root tuber underground that can weigh up to 5 pounds.
  • Blue-headed reed: hard-stemmed, with blue, sickeningly sweet-smelling bugle blossoms.
  • Foxthorn bush: a woody plant growing up to one and a half meters high, it got its name from its red leaves and ten-centimeter thorns.
  • Spruce of the sky: broad, yellowish-green leaves, extremely water-demanding and prolific fodder plant.
  • Storm raspberry: creeping plant that produces white, plum-sized fruits similar to raspberries.
The plants are buzzed around by Black Wasps and Goldflies, which primarily snack on Storm rapsberry, but the Goldflies' favorite treat is also the nectar of the Blue-headed Reed, which blooms all year round. When night falls, bats hunt them. Nests of Yellow-spotted voles are hiding in the tall grass. The small rodents feed on sky grass seeds and fruits. The two main hunters of mice are the White Earthcat and the Winged Glider. Earthcats are the second most dangerous predator on the island. Gliders, on the other hand, often end up as a feast for the Helmed Falcon or the Red-bellied Fire Lizard, as well as the Stone Swallow nesting on low tendrils or grass, or a more clumsy Scaled Rabbit. In many cases, the Foxthorn bushes are home to Pixi colonies, while in the Storm raspberry groves, families of Woolly pigs roam in search of Fragrant root. The Pixies eat every edible plant on the island, even the black berries of the Foxthorn, which are otherwise poisonous. On the bank of the stream, in the safety of the reeds, the Topknot geese, the island's largest birds, nest.
However, none are as dangerous, beautiful and noble as the beast that nests here, the Royal Phoenix.
  • Goldfly: a fat, slow-flying, comfortable insect. It is extremely useful because it pollinates the island's plants if there is nothing else to do.
  • Topknot goose: a two-foot-tall bird with brown feathers. She lays 5-7 eggs once a year, and must protect her nest from gliders, lizards, and even pigs. Even falcons and phoenixes are dangerous for chicks.
  • Bat: common bat.
  • White earthcat: a variant of the earthcats, a common two-tailed cat breed. It's fur and eyes are white. It's builds the nest at the base of bushes.
  • Black wasp: a thumb-sized, herbivorous insect, similar in structure to the common wasp. Pixies sometimes keep this as pets.
  • Woolly pig: a smaller pig that grows thick, grayish-brown wool similar to a lamb. Due to its size, a goose can easily chase away an adult animal.
  • Royal Phoenix: this large phoenix breed only nests on the island, far from each other. Fire lizards and pigs are dangerous for the eggs, and hawks and earthcats are also dangerous for the hatchlings. The adult beast has no natural enemies.
  • Stone swallow: small, gray bird, lays eggs twice a year. Its favorite treats are both native insect species. Sometimes they catch little Pixies that have wandered off by mistake.
  • Scaled rabbit: the small omnivore looks more like a pangolin, but the explorers of the island have not yet encountered such a creature, hence its name. It eats what it can catch or what finds.
  • Pixi: small magical humanoid beast, fairy. It feeds on fruits and berries and lives in "tribes".
  • Helmed falcon: a medium-sized bird of prey that hunts both ground and flying creatures.
  • Winged Glider: this strange reptile grows to a length of up to two feet, with dragonfly-like membranous wings that fold behind its neck, flat against its back. Only if you fall, open it to get back to safe ground. It doesn't fly by itself.
  • Yellow-spotted voles: a common jumping mouse, maybe a little fatter than elsewhere.
  • Red-bellied fire lizard: small iguana in shape, green back with brown scaly crest, orange, reddish belly (fades with age). It is extremely resistant to fire and heat-based effects.
