First Hunt

As with most peoples close to nature (such as the Segai or the Narmiron elves ), for the Surta elves, becoming an adult means that the young person is now able to take care of himself and his environment. For Wood Elves, the time for this comes after they reach the age of a hundred years. However, proving his aptitude is a hard task: he must convince his parents and the clan leaders.
The event usually takes place a few months before the Night of a Thousand Stars (midsummer holiday), and the preparation usually started months before.
Young people make their bows and equipment for hunting, many sew new clothes for themselves to prove their skill. A small community usually organizes the hunt all for the young people going into the wilderness for the first time* in their lives without companions. Those who return home alive, mostly unharmed (including their equipment) and with prey, are hosting their family and the community, so they must also know how to cook. If all this is fulfilled, it has passed the test.
On the Night of the thousand stars, they dress up in more ornate clothes, show their surroundings with striking battle paint and jewelry that they are ready for adult life.
Those who come up empty-handed or with a serious injury can try again the following year - such repeaters must prove themselves on a separate occasion, a few days after the newbies. Hunters who finally pass the test are welcomed at the holiday with the same joy as those who succeeded the first time. Anyone who has completed the First Hunt is considered an adult in the community, can choose a partner, build a home and start a family.
