Dryad - ancient Tree Fairy
Dryads come from the Elemental plane of Earth and Nature, they are among the most ancient Fairies of Evera.
They are the guardians of undisturbed nature and consider any stranger who disturbs the areas under their protection to be an enemy. Good traveler who walk the wilderness with care and attention can enjoy the protection and alliance of the Dryads if they earn their recognition by his actions.
In appearance, wood-fairies may look like tall Surta or Narmiron elf women, with long hair playing in some shade of red. They appear as naked, beautiful young girls, with which they tend to confuse their opponents.
They usually hide from prying eyes, keeping an eye on newcomers by fused together with their trees or becoming invisible. If the intruders approach with malicious intent or cause damage to the forest or grove that hosts them, they first ambush and then attack openly, calling the surrounding plants and animals to fight. If they can, fight from further away, using strong Natural magic, but sometimes they also use Earth-based spells, e.g. to extinguish fires.
Dryads are fairies, so they are immune to most Fairy magic, but they are extremely sensitive to fire, hate it, and can do little against it. (Woe to those who build a campfire next to a dryad's lair.)
Dryads live in symbiosis with a selected tree, such as oak, pinera or serdophia. In such groves, many dryads can live side by side, forming a community. If the tree is destroyed, the dryad will be taken with it. The tree-fairy cannot leave its chosen tree more than half a day's walking distance away, or it will soon wither, and the tree with it.
