Malmos
Once known as Tor Malmo, this settlement was one of the dual Capitals of the Rune Keepers prior to the War with the Kasarian Conclave, but after the destruction caused and the slaughter of the population at the hands of Gaia and Lorelin, the High Clergy of Var'Bellenaris made the decision to downsize the remnants of the old city to a town to make the rebuilding and repopulation easier in the long term.
Demographics
There is a majority population of Elven people with some Halflings, and a much smaller selection of other races such as Dragonborn, Tiefling, Human and Fey.
Government
Like all settlements in the Rune Keepers post-war, Malmos is currently under the rule of the High Clergy of Var'Bellenaris until the Clergy can be redistributed to oversee the individual towns and cities.
Defences
The Knights of the Green Bow currently stand guard in Malmos to prevent bandits and wildlife running amok. They are gifted rangers dedicated to the service of Solonor and patrol the exterior of the town.
Infrastructure
Post-war, having to have rebuilt from scratch, Malmos now features a selection of small farmland; windmills and basic amenities needed for day to day survival and progress.
Districts
Farmland:
Having been sent a large amount of fertile soil and peat from the City of Rot an area outside the town walls has been dug and turned into a farmland for growing crops and creating an orchard. At present there are three main families overseeing this area and tending the land to ensure healthy growth and produce.Residential District:
Still currently in its infancy, a new district has been prepared to replace the lost housing for the new population. It is vastly smaller at present than it was previously, but space has been left for expansion should the repopulation plans go well in the future. The majority of housing being built is small family homes and maisonettes, constructed in small cul-de-sacs and streets.Merchant District:
Though barely started at present and namely made up of small open front tents in the newly constructed market square, there are plans for a decently sized merchant district to cover a variety of different professions. It is expected that there will be a small Guild formed for the merchants to help one another in the rebuild of their professions and livelihoods.Temple District:
One of the first districts to be reconstructed, the twelve temples of the Seldarine which were decimated by Lorelin during the war are already close to completion, though not as large and grand as they once were, they are still the pinnacle point of the town to which the population will flock and feel comfort knowing their Gods are once again with them. It has been designed so that Corellon's temple is the centre point of the district while the other eleven temples surround it in a ring formation.Assets
Adventurer's Guild Embassy:
Thanks to the continued efforts of the mages freed from Tor Uviel's Arcane Academy, the Guild Embassy's Teleportation Circle has been completed ahead of schedule and the building constructed to provide a comfortable transitional space for the Guild to utilise.Guilds and Factions
Merchant Guild:
Though not yet in effect, there are solid plans for the merchants of Malmos to form a Guild to make their lives easier and to support one another as the town and Empire rebuilds.Knights of the Green Bow:
Due to the deaths of the majority of the guards of Malmos, one of the religious Orders of Solonor has stepped up to oversee the protection of Malmos from bandits and wild beasts.Clergy:
The Clergy of Tor Malmo suffered greatly in the war and almost all of them were slaughtered. At present, one of the surviving Priestesses of Sehanine has been elevated to High Priestess to assist and aid in the running of the town. It is expected that once the infrastructure is completed, the High Clergy of Var'Bellenaris will begin redistrubuting Clergy members to Malmos to oversee the maintanence of the temples and to care for the religious wellbeing of the populace again.History
Formerly Tor Malmo, one of the Capital Cities of the Rune Keepers, the city was grand and beautiful. Home to one half of the Magisters who oversaw the law making and legal systems of the Empire, and in constant playful battle with Tor Uviel for the right to be THE Captial City.
When the Kasarian Conclave descended, Lorelin the Priestess took to the Temple District and destroyed the temples and slaughtered the Clergy, sacrificing the twelve High Priests and Priestesses in a dark ritual to create a holy temple to Kasaria.
When Lorelin fell and the city was liberated, the physical damage done was beyond what could be repaired, thus it was decided that the city would be reduced to a town to make the rebuilding process easier and more likely to succeed, thus Malmos was born.
Points of interest
The Memorial:
In what will become the Merchant District, a memorial monolith has been erected in the form of a water fountain, inscribed onto the large stone construct are the names of those who gave their lives to free the city from the Conclave, ranging from the Dwarves and Orcs who came from the Empire Of The Clockwork BattleAxe; to those who came from the The Empire Of Man and the Fey who came from The Feywild. The Hag Brew:
It did not go unnoticed that during the war, among the allies were three Hags furiously brewing potions and selling them at discounted prices to all in need for every battle and ailment possible. And while the Fey and Elves alike are often cautious of Hags, gratitude for all service during the war, in some way or another, is repaid. The Hag Brew is a quaint cafe in the new merchant district, overgrowing with potted plants and ivy with an aura of burning incense and the smells of fresh baking and coffee. Interior and exterior seating and a practising sorceress as its owner, the ambience couldn't be more fitting for those of a more witchy vibe. The Raven's Quill:
The first store for the arcane to open after the events of the war, The Raven's Quill was formerly among the stalls on the streets of the rebuilt Merchant District but now has upgraded to a fully functional store,The Broken Vial:
A newly opened apothecary/alchemy store, selling balms and salves and potions, as well as all manner of ingredients needed to homebrewing. The store is among the first physical ones to open post-war, having previously been a stall in the market district.Architecture
The housing district and many other buildings being reconstructed in Malmos are reminiscent of the previous construction style pre-war, with pitched slate roofs and front facing gables; exposed decorative timbering of dark oak with white stone inbetween; elegant archways leading to the front doors and diamond cut panes of glass in the windows; there are usually two chimneys on opposing ends of the houses.
The interior of the buildings is quaint and tidy, built for function and quick habitation to get people housed as quickly as possible. Nevertheless, they are comfortable and secure with wood flooring and exposed ceiling beams, a basic upstairs-downstairs cottage style ready to house small families.
The temples however are being built purely out of white stone and stained glass to restore the majesty of the religion in Malmos.
Geography
The terrain surrounding Malmos is surrounded by a thin veil of trees and woodland and is very flat, and very damaged from the warfare, however with fertile soil and peat having been sent from the City of Rot a new series of farms are being built to hopefully nourish the area and restore life to the decayed grasslands.
Climate
As with all of the Empire of the Rune Keepers the climate is constantly very warm and dry, the Empire has never seen snow and whenever it rains the water is warm on the skin. There are occassional cool breezes from the ocean to the South, but it is predominantly in a near constant summer-like state.
Natural Resources
There is an abundance of woodland to harvest logs from, however as per the Elven tradition, only trees which are near the end of their lives are cut down for use in construction, and those which are cut down are always replanted to maintain a healthy balance of nature and industry.
