The Hag Brew
The Hag Brew is a quaint cafe and tearoom newly built in Malmos after the Kasarian War. Most believe it to be a symbol of gratitude to the three Hags who were seen aiding in the war effort of each city by brewing potions to sell at huge discounts to everyone in need, and though most Fey and Elves are quite cautious of Hags, it seems the gratitude of victory announces a need to show thanks to all who did their part.
The cafe itself is relatively small in size, though it is a two story building it has a cosy and cramped style to the architecture that stands out against other structures in the street. With a crooked roof line and stacked chimney smoking various arrays of colourful smoke throughout the day, the overgrowing potted plants pouring through open windows and across the beams creates a cosy witchy vibe to it.
Purpose / Function
The tearoom provides a comfortable and relaxing ambience in which to sell fresh brews and baked goods to travellers and visitors to Malmos, aiding in the financial recovery of the town through trade and tourism.
Entries
The front door sits slightly off to the right hand side of the building beside the large bay windows, and roughly opposite is an exterior door leading to the outside seating and garden area.
Simple textured bay and shuttered windows are painted with a stained glass effect to provide privacy for those inside.
Sensory & Appearance
Upon entry via the dark oak front door, customers enter into a simple rectangular room with a simple counter, serving station and brewing stand directly to the right and open seating to the left.
The simple brick and wood walls are covered by sprawling green plants and flowers which curl across the wooden beams overhead and bloom beautifully all year round. A number of simplistic paintings on the walls depict scenery from around the The Empire of the Rune Keepers such as the rolling hills of the Equine Woods and open waters of the Maomer Archipelago. A series of bistro tables with soft cushioned seating provides ample sitting space for around twenty customers, while an additional number of comfortable couches and coffee tables near the open fire provide for another six. The dark oak wood flooring is complimented by a soft knit rug in hues of greens and browns and seems resistant to scratching caused by furniture being moved.
The smell of fresh baked goods and spices is prevalent upon entry and often spills out the open windows into the streets. Fresh bread; cakes; sweets and pies which are advertised on the board behind the counter alongside a wide range of teas and coffees, the heavy and rich scent of coffee beans and tea leaves carries a soothing aroma.
Alongside the crackling sound of the burning fireplace, there is a soft music barely audible unless listening closely, which provides a subtle and soothing backdrop to conversations and relaxation. It sounds akin to wind chimes and soft pan flute notes.
Towards the back of the room a single dark oak door leads out into an open garden space with herbs and flowers, and more exterior seating beneath open umbrellas to protect against the elements. And to the right of that door a staircase leading upstairs to a simple apartment for the proprietor.
Denizens
Though new, the Hag Brew seems to play host to a number of Elves; Halflings and Fey who live in Malmos, as it is one of the first businesses to have opened post-war it has become a popular haunt for those seeking respite from the hard days of rebuilding.
Contents & Furnishings
The furniture is all incredibly comfortable and cosy, simple woods with soft cushions and comfortable couches to sink into beside the fire. Tones of warm and burnt oranges alongside rich greens and earthen browns create a comfortable and natural space to recline.
Architecture
This two story building looks quite small and quaint from the outside, with a crooked roof line and stacked chimney, large bay windows with a stained glass effect showing beautiful natural landscapes and sunrises. It is a simple brick building, white and grey textures with rich brown accents. A darker slate roofing makes it stand out against the normal white pale greens of the rest of the new structures of Malmos, and draws attention to it by design.
History
The plot of land was purchased around two months after the Kasarian War ended with the intentions to build a new cafe to begin kickstarting tourism in the town, construction took a further four months and it has recently opened for business, taking off very well in the early weeks.
