Toreblo is the southern of
Renamos' two cattle ports. Most of Renamos is built on top or beside the
Cima Mountain Range, but the cattle towns of Toreblo and
Vacudad are different. The plains south of the range are home to the Rena cattle herds. Ranchers live in its empty expanse raising families and animals. Ranch families round up their cattle every year beginning in the late spring through early fall, and drive the market age steers, as well as passels of hogs, to one of the two coastal cow-towns.
Seasonal Draw
The city, merely a ghost town all winter, comes alive with activity in the spring as the cowhands drive in their herds to sell to the Ranchers' Guild. The guild purchases the herds directly, provides wholesale operations that kill, dehorn, and skin the animals, and then resell the parts keeping the difference for the guild coffers. Merchants and shippers from far and wide are drawn in to buy and sell.
Entertainment Industry
In addition to the work the herds bring to the town, the drovers, who have just worked nonstop on the arduous trail in, are newly paid, and usually looking to cut loose, bring another sort of work. The members of the trail outfit, other than the trail boss, are mostly made up of young adult family members, although depending on the size of the family cowhands and wranglers may be hired out. Either way, there is no fraternizing nor imbibing on the trail, and the long abstinence leads to strong appetites. Enterprising Rena business people in Toreblo are more than happy to entertain the cowhands and sailors that fuel the cattle trade.
Trade Partners
The cow-towns provide not just Rena with a good portion of its meat but the surrounding nations as well. As the southernmost settlement, Toreblo is closer to the
Ushann town of
Paeonia than to any Rena settlements. The
Ushanni are mostly vegetarians, but they are more than happy to buy Rena meat for resale to the
Pelesians and
Evestrians.
