Wes Basin

Geography

Situated east of the Great Balian Range and north of the smaller offshoot range, the Wes Basin is a large valley that spans many hundreds of kilometres and forms the central territory of the old Wesian Kingdom. On its western reaches a large lake sits at the base of the basin, fed by the Naba River and the water that runs down from the surrounding mountains.

Fauna & Flora

Dilynwr: A four legged dark blue creature with no real head or eyes, the Dilynwr is a common sight about the Wes Basin, living in large herds begin shepherded around. Capable of generating a large Majical fog the Dilynwr are prized beasts of burden and, for some, war beasts, though they are not naturally aggressive. Should they become overly agitated or become engaged in a life-or-death situation they are capable of generating a bolt of lightning from their 'head', though it is not very powerful by itself.

Natural Resources

Due to it's position along the Great Balian Range and the multitude of mountains within it's area the Wes Basin has access to many different kinds of metals, from simple copper and iron to mithral and adamantine. Thanks to the low lands and lake in the Basin large yields of crops ranging from grains to tubes and roots are farmed, providing the Basin with a large amount of food. Lastly, the Basin has access to Steelwood trees, which grow in small groves guarded by zealous Dryads, though the wood itself is incredibly useful for building and fortification construction, though only the woodsmen of the Basin are allowed to even converse with the Dryads, and often have to pay a high toll in order to take a single tree down.

History

Originally settled by a myriad of tribes and small nomadic states, the Wes Basin become uninhabited for centuries after the Battle of Bridevein Pass where a massive force of tribal warriors were slaughtered by a Dwarvern Coalition. The mountains of the Basin would become home to these Dwarves in the intermittent years, though in 2560 the descendants of the tribes returned to the region. These returned settlers were different than their ancestors, and had been humbled by centuries of hard work and the sudden return of the Majical Mysterum, which had 'civilised' them somewhat. Seeking to just live in peace in the Basin, these settlers were left alone by the sickly Syck Imperium, though they would come to blows in the decades leading up to the official dissolution of the Imperium as Imperial settlements began to seek protection from the denizens of the Basin, whom were now organised in the Wesian Kingdom.   After the Imperium's final death in 2795 the Basin's peoples spread forth in a small empire of their own, though this would not last. After the last Great Wesian King Orvald Hirgar the Third died in battle against the rebellious Claymond Dukes, civil wars wracked the nation and the Basin itself saw constant warfare. In fact, until recently the Basin would be subjected to massive war after massive war, which caused untold devastation, until the realm's stability began to rise. Now the Basin is split amongst the warring successor states of the old Kingdom, but a large portion of it has seen decades of peace.
