Melancholy Hill

Standing a solitary vigil amidst vast rolling plains, Melancholy Hill is a stony hill with a cave network running below it's surface. Originally built thousands of years ago as a cairn, a place to lay the dead to rest, the hill has become one with the world around it, now taking on the form of a naturally occurring hill whilst still retaining it's catacombs.

History

Whilst the origin and nature of it's creators have long since been lost to time, many tales surround the Melancholy Hill, as sad and terrible events seem to occur around it all the time, with no known supernatural cause. Due to it's location between two rival dynasties, as well as the strategic ancient highway that runs nearby, the hill has been a battlefield more times than one could count. So many battles have been fought here that, should scholars come and dig up the ground remains wearing armour and wielding weapons can be found nearly ten meters below the surface.
Adding to this legend is the fact that at least three Kings have killed themselves atop the hill, after committing atrocities so heinous that they could not live with themselves. Years later a criminal syndicate would use the hill and it's catacombs as a half-way point for human trafficking operations which would cause suffering to thousands, including the lost princess of Wes.
Since then the Hill has exuded an 'aura' of depression, causing most who go near to become depressed, though with no known majical source.
