Candence

The capital of the Kingdom of Evangil is a hub of culture, trade and power. From the hills of the city the lords and ladies feast and plot, along the streets and in the markets travelers and traders from all across the continent discuss adventure and argue over prices, and in the harbor and the Bay of Light, ships and aircraft make their way to far distant realms carrying precious goods and exited voyagers.

Government

Officially Candence, being the capital and crown city, is ruled directly by the Queen. Practically however the Queen is much to occupied with affairs of state and international politics and rule over the city proper is left to a council of Lord's and Guild Masters. They rule from within the Royal palace, where the Queen can keep a watchful eye on their meetings.

Infrastructure

Built on the cliffs and hills surrounding the natural beauty of the Bay of Light, Candence is a multilayered marvel of engineering. Buildings cling to the cliffsides, carved into the mountains and suspended on terraces of arced pillars. High bridges, decorated with angels and heroes of legend span the narrow valleys, connecting neighborhoods and districts creating a city of bridges. Funiculars and elevators connect terraces and levels with the streets bellow while trams and ferries provide public transportation around the city and around the bay.   Because of Candence elevated nature wagons, horses and other larger transports are often relegated to the main streets at sea level, and along the few larger elevated byways. Canyards prefer traversing their city on foot or by public transportation, taking their time to enjoy the views and browse shops and cafés along the way.   Bellow Candence lies a web of tunnels, sewers and underground dwellings. Many of these belong to different built up over time to service one specific neighborhood, eventually connected to a larger grid as the city grew and became more organized. When new people arrived they did as all immigrants and brought with them their culture and knowledge and while many of them preferred life on the surface, others decided to make their homes underground. So it´s not uncommon to find dwarfen, gnome or even kobold tunnels among the cliffs of the capital, even outside the major enclaves.
