The first day joining the Accian Military Training Program, sometimes referred to as the procession. Staff are introduced, expectations are set and recruits are assigned units. These are ten man units but Tia's is incomplete.

The long awaited day when all citizens of age leave home and travel to the nearest designated compound. They set out to join the Accian Military Training Program, otherwise called the procession. They are filed into the amphitheater on site and undergo orientation. Major staff are introduced and recruits learn what to expect and what is expected of them. They dangle the promise of equity, fame and opportunity before even the poorest recruit and claim every citizen will have equal opportunity when they enter military service.   Finally, they explain the structure of units and begin announcing these ten man units before allowing them the day to get to know their new comrades and the compound. There are three units which stand out and contain most of the main characters. These are C210, C211 and Z909, Tia's unit. However, unlike the rest, Tia's unit is incomplete with only six members. Tia and her peers finds this unit lacking and become confrontational despite her efforts and hopes for new friendships.
