Siptalis Character in Emynea | World Anvil

Siptalis

(a.k.a. Despair)

Siptalis is an aspect of Zalikar and is the embodiment of sorrow and despair. He is considered a mental aspect and he exists within Siptalis' Plane. Siptalis consists of emotions, memories and states related to despair, sadness, grief, depression, lethargy, fatigue, shame, dissatisfaction or general dysphoria. In general, Siptalis deals with a decrease or lack of certain moods and emotions. It is the counterpart to Mpertem, aspect of Lithmor representing joy, motivation and general euphoria.

Siptalis Manifestations are somewhat rare after Zalikar took his revenge on those he originally gifted. Most who possess Siptalis' blessings as a Racial Magic are centered in and near the Tenebrous Chain, the southern Eluzian Valley or are nobility of the Kingdom of Accia. These casters also tend to develop one or more personality quirks or tendencies of Siptalis himself as a side effect of their connection to him.

Racial Manifestations

During the Era of Legends, the Erlithmanil gifted many lifeforms with their magic. Millions of years later, every lifeform on Emynea possesses two of these blessings. As these abilities are passed down from parent to child genetically, they came to call these gifts Racial Magic. These are named by the aspect a caster is connected to and by how they can use it, how they manifest their connection.

Manipulation
Can manipulate emotions, memories, thoughts or states related to Siptalis in those around them, if they are occurring in whatever intensity.

Aura
Can generate an area or pocket around themselves which inflicts emotions or thoughts related to Siptalis or can do so for more specific targets. They are also immune to Siptalis magic.

Shadow
Can genearted illusions or hallucinations fueled by Siptalis' Plane or the part of a target's mind connected to the plane. These can be of saddneing memories, people they have lost and are greiving or even just audiory hallucinations which incite despair or sadness within a target for example.

Eye
Can see emotions, thoughts, memories and states related to Siptalis as an aura or some sort of symbolic illusion around targets and learn details about this part of their mind by staring into their eyes.

Sense
Can feel or sense emotions, thoughts, memories and states related to Siptalis in those around them and can learn details about these by touching a target. They are also immune Siptalis magic.

Binding
Able to bind specific emotions, thoughts or memories related to Siptalis. They can either restrict a target's access to them, keep them from sharing these with anyone else or they can make these impossible to forget. They can bind their own as well. This binding can only be undone by someone of the same aspect and trying to force the memories can be dangerous.

Mind
Able to enter a meditative state and mentally enter the part of a target's mind space set aside for and connected to Siptalis. They can explore and experience all thoughts, emotions and memories stored here but cannot access the rest of the target's mind. The mind they are invading can also resist and attempt to expell them, this becoming a battle of willpower and skill!

Vision
Able to enter a meditative state in which the caster can enter and explore Siptalis' Plane, leaving their own body and seeming to astral project into the plane. They can peek through the portals of the plane and can parse through information and memories stored here. It can be difficult to maneuver a mental plane and there are certain things Siptalis and his shades won't allow access to, possibly ejecting the caster from the plane for trying if not punishing them.

Apathy
Able to temporarily block a target's access to emotions, thoughts, states or memories related to Siptalis. They will be unable to experience things like despair, grief or shame until the effect is lifted. The caster can also turn off their own ability to feel these at will.

Empathy
Can enable targets to experience or share emotions, thoughts and memories related to Siptalis and the caster can project their own Siptalis emotions or memories into others' minds.

Shield
These casters are immune to all Siptalis magic and can turn off their own ability to feel these emotions or thoughts.

Touch
Able to inflict severe mental, emotional or physical exhaustion and fatigue via touch. The effect compounds the longer contact continues.

Step
Allows the caster to physically enter Siptalis' Plane, using themselves or another experiencing these emotions as a portal, and explore the plane. They can enter mind spaces connected to the plane but this can be extremely dangerous.

This is the simplified explanation of these abilities. See Mental Manifestations for more details, limits and functions. Siptalis and Zalikar can wield all of these abilities and some others.

As an aspect of Zalikar, he resembles him quite a bit. His domain consists of heavy black oil and he is drenched in it himself. Agonized faces weep oil from beneath his skin and this leaves him quite heavy. This oil is soot black and his eyes are brown.

Special abilities

by Lee Stepp

Siptalis is the embodiment of emotions such as sorrow, despair, grief, shame, etc. and has complete control over these emotions, his own or that of others. He can sense, see and generally perceive these emotions all around him. He can easily parse through memories, thoughts and feelings connected to Siptalis' Plane in every individual across Emynea, simply needing to direct his focus onto that individual. He can inflict or relieve these emotions at will as well. Like many mental aspects, he is able to feed off of these emotions as they occur in someone as well, each emotion and individual having their own unique flavor.

Apparel & Accessories

Unlike most of his brothers, Siptalis has a preference for comfortable clothing while still retaining his darker sense of style. He especially enjoys hoodies but will settle for hooded cloaks when modern clothes aren't acceptable. He is also a fan of heavy metal music, often taking up some of their style as well.

Aspects are pieces of the whole mind of their element and so Azowyr embodies a piece of Zalikar. Siptalis is extremely insightful and perceptive into the hidden emotions of others even without his abilities—he is extremely empathetic. He has an immense understanding of these emotions and suffers them almost constantly himself, trapped in neverending depression. He is skilled in relating to and understanding people through these emotions and can use this understanding to manipulate or motivate those around him. He believes that is the merit and purpose of sorrow.

He can be extremely draining, intense and high maintenance, exhausting and demanding to tolerate and always a downer in bright settings. Yet at the same time, he is the ideal person to talk to when overcome by sorrow, grief or loss. His presence is comforting and he has no expectations for others to "get over" the source of their sorrow. He knows the best things to say, when to simply listen and validates all of the complexities of these emotions so one can fully experience the sorrow and move forward.

While Siptalis can be empathetic and understanding, he is also capable of total apathy when he chooses to. He is prone to escapism in order to cope with his constant sorrow, cycling between this and sadomasochism depending on his mood and company. He also isnt afraid to use misery as a tool for teaching someone or forcing them to confront their true nature. Siptalis is quite morose, melancholic and angsty in personality as well as enjoying a metal aesthetic. He loves dark and emotional music more than any of his brother's as well whether this is rock and metal or raw instrumental compositions.
