Ida “Hotspur” Stonefoot
Upbringing
Ida came from humble beginnings. A gnome of modest means, she spent her childhood tending her family’s goats in the sprawling steppes near Swifthollow . But Ida was no ordinary herder—her fiery temper and unshakable determination made her stand out. She tamed the wildest of steeds, rode with daring, and had an uncanny skill with a lance and blade. When most gnomes celebrated peace and prosperity, Ida dreamed of adventure and glory. Her chance came when the famed Thistlefoot Riders , an elite gnomish cavalry known for their speed and cunning on the battlefield, passed through her village. Ida challenged one of their riders to a duel on horseback and, to everyone’s shock, won. Impressed by her skill and grit, the Riders offered her a place among their ranks. For a time, Ida thrived—riding with the Thistlefoots across the land, winning skirmishes, and earning her place as a respected warrior. However, her temper was her undoing. Ida’s fiery nature often clashed with the disciplined camaraderie of the Thistlefoot Riders. She quarreled with her superiors, started brawls over perceived slights, and refused to back down even when in the wrong. After one too many incidents—culminating in a fistfight that left two Riders injured—Ida was expelled from the group. Cast out in disgrace, her dreams of glory shattered, she found herself alone and bitter. But Ida was not one to wallow in self-pity. Determined to make her own way, she turned to life as a sellsword. Traveling from town to town, she offers her unparalleled skills on horseback to the highest bidder. While her temper still gets the better of her, she has carved out a reputation as a fearsome and relentless fighter. Ida fights not just for coin, but to prove that she is more than her past mistakes—though the ghost of her expulsion from the Thistlefoot Riders haunts her still.
