Black Sail Bay
History
Founded in 1046 by House Seasnake After the head of house Sheltered in the bay during a winter storm that nearly wrecked his fleet.
Upon setting foot on the shore safely he exclaimed “if this bay protects me today, it shall protect any who travel here”.
Soon after he began the settle the bay, and built the Golden Galleon Fotress, on the cliffs above.
This sheltered bay was a natural stopping point for travelers and merchants headed between the growing city of Tideport to the south and Bitterdark Mines All the way around the coast of the Northern Plains.
The town grew quickly over the last 150 years and is not a central stopping point and one of the last towns of any size before anybody enters the frozen parts of the northern plains.
Population
Today 18500 people live in Black Sail Bay. 50% are human, 25% eleven, 20% dwarves and 5% everything else.
Economy
Black Sail Bay exports what you would expect from a coastal town. Salted fish, and other other dried or salted seafood.
They have a large number of inns for all types of clientele to service the continued sea traffic headed north or south down the western coast. The most notable of these inns is the Crows Nest , where pirates and city guards sit side by side.
Interestingly as well, the forests just north of the city make excellent ships, but rather than export the timber elsewhere, the town is home to the Corsair Dry Docks. Large enough to build good size merchant ships and the small fast war galleys prized by raiders.
