Bitterdark Mines
History
Founded by House Ironhelm in 1016, Bitter Dark Mine was the first settlement expedition. It is located in the Northern Plains of Belkar, on the eastern edge. Originally designed as a port for goods from Hammerfall Mines, however the volume of goods soon turned this settlement into a booming town in its own right. Due to the booming expansion of this town, its management is a sought after post, and is usually held as a title to the heir of House Ironhelm.
Population
In 1172, the population of Bitterdark is just under 45,000. This city is more integrated than most found in dwarven lands, with 35% of the population being dwarves, while humans 30%, gnomes 15% elves 10% , halflings 5% and barbarians 5% make up the rest.
Ironhelm does not recognize House Bloodfang as a civilized race, as well as a few other nomadic races making up the barbarian quarter.
Economy
Built as a port settlement from which to trade additional goods, this continues to be a major economic boon to Ironhelm. A large docks makes many foreign goods available.
In 1031, a technique of rolling hot steel in icebergs produced a much stronger temper for weapons and armour, as well as a beautiful wave pattern on the item itself. This is Bitter Dark Steel became such an economic driver for the town that has retired many smiths, and saved many lives.
In addition to this Al-Bugbys All Things Beard has become very famous to anybody with facial hair (especially dwarves). Thier different waxes, gels, dyes and tools have fetched a fair price for traders.
