Sunborn Species in Emicara | World Anvil

Sunborn

Sunborn are typically normal humans in appearance, but possess strange, borderline angelic, features. They claim to have been touched by the stars themselves, granting them their abnormally symmetrical and celestial looks. The Sunborn have only recently been seen in the furthest western parts of Emicara, or on the occasional trade ship from the western coast of the Circle Sea. They hail from the distant City of Light, far beyond the Giant Lands, and are viewed with trepidation by the most devout of the Church of the One Sun. They are very tight lipped about their homeland, and are only known in Emicara as adventurers.

Growth Rate & Stages

Naming Traditions

Sunborn that leave the City of Lights also leave behind their original names. These names are hidden and treasured by the Sunborn, and are typically human in nature. When they adventure elsewhere in the world, they instead take upon new names that invoke the stars and skies.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

The common language of the Sunborn is known as Losvega, named for their homeland. There are harsh restrictions upon what others can learn the words of this tongue and Sunborn culture is careful to preserve all of their knowledge away from unenlightened hands.

History

The Sunborn initially emerged from a band of enhanced humans at a place known as the City of Lights. According to their limited traditions and legends, it is said that the founder of the City of Lights helped improve the primitive tribes and people in the region. They claim that as part of their tradition, they ascend into the stars and receive blessings from the Founder and the Sun itself, granting them their looks and appearances, as well as occasionally powerful abilities. However, these blessings prevent the Sunborn from discussing the City of Lights or details relating to it to outsiders from other lands and civilizations. It is said that the enhancements granted upon the Sunborn act as a restraint which makes it physically impossible for traveling Sunborn to speak of their home to others.
