Duchess Lia Amakler
Duchess Lia Amakler (Gemflower) is the first and current Governor of the Northwestern province of Argyle. Prior to the founding of Argyle, Amakler had a successful career as an adventurer and a diplomat, known for her arcane and divine talents on the battlefield, and her inspiring presence at court.
Early Life
The location of Amakler's birth and early childhood are not widely known, nor are the origins of her parents. The first reliable information on the future Duchess is recorded when she was ordained as a cleric of Pelor in 269 YR.Diplomatic Career
As a young cleric, The Church of Pelor elected Amakler to be their Ambassador to the fey of the Summer Court in 275 YR. An infrequently needed position due to fey disinterest in Sirastir and their Theocratic rules, Amakler was often tasked with soliciting fey assistance in making the land of Sirastir arable once again. In 280 YR, a knight of Paladine was gaining popular attention for his accomplishments, and the Church of Pelor wanted to ensure this would not become a disruptive force within society. They sent Amakler to keep Luctor close at all times. As the years went on, their battle bonds led her to disclose this fact as the cleric chose her new life as an adventurer over the court.Counter-culture
For choosing her companions over the orders of the Church of Pelor, Amakler is occasionally depicted as a resistance figure, fighting against the oppression of the church, and their claim to divine right. More than one major work of art has been created casting her as the true messenger of Pelor, including holding the holy staff usually wielded by a High Priest of Pelor while clad in gold battle armor.Duchess of Argyle
Following the initial years securing the capital in Badum and receiving pilgrims looking to view the site of Beryl's downfall, it was decided that Argyle would never be successful without a wider sense of security, and regional leadership to better stimulate settlement outside of the capital. In 287, it was decided that Duchess Amalker, Duke Fireforge, and Duke Khalid would each take charge of equally sized provinces, while Luctor would remain behind in Badum with the support of a few of the less-known members of their party.Seat of Power
Smallston House, an elaborate but not overtly-ornate defensible manor house was commissioned by Duchess Amakler in 288, and completed the initial building in 290. In 295 a second tower was added to the building, and plans were developed for an outer retaining wall to allow the expansion of further towers technically off-site as potential diplomatic installations. Smallston House and the towns nearby are known for a small but sophisticated level of trade, often receiving books, instruments, and materials usually expected in larger trade capitals such as Dawn Garden in Marothell. A plague above the gates to Smallston House dedicates the premises to Mystra, goddess of magic.Key Adventuring Accomplishments
Green Dragonflight - As a core member of Prince Luctor's party in the campaign against the dragon overlord Beryl, and the later fights against the remnants of the Green Dragonflight, Amakler is pictured in many of the murals and triptychs created by grateful citizens of both Argyle and Sirastir. The Second Star - Receiving a call for help in 281 YR, Amakler led a party to help route a pack of demonic gnolls from the foothills between Sirastir and Marothell. In the process, Amakler discovered a lost shrine to Mystra (since blockaded by the priests of Sirastir), and recovered the mace called Second Star. Rumors persist that this event presaged Amakler's conversion from the faith of Pelor to Mystra.Relationships
