Molise

A conglomerate of cities dotting the coastline, though the main entity is Molise. Run by a council elected by the prominent merchant guilds to protect their interests and keep prying eyes away from the north-east. Here is the first sighting of Ylistrium, and conflict has bubbled and boiled ever since. In modern times, they are dealing with repelling the Kagoati barbarians, but without the aid of the basin they are in dire straits. In order to keep the cities intact, they have had to pay hefty sums of gold to the invaders and sometimes even Ylistrium but it has worked.   The Molisen cities are of pleasant weather mostly all year round, but in late summers they are plagued with storms that would make the most worthy magic user tremble in fear. The topography is plain and flat through most of the area until the Farradax Mountains, and here they have begun to set up multiple smaller trade towns to find their way through them and establish permanent contact with easterners. The trees here are tall, but they rot away easily and often become waterlogged which has led the traders to maintain a dubious relationship with the folk of Ossentum to obtain lumber. Its farther lands are strip mined for gold, and the coasts of Molise (as well as the other influential cities of Molierre) are bountiful. Isles off the coast are full of bird guano which is sold as fertilizer and is perhaps more valuable than gold as it can mean the difference between famine or plentiful harvest throughout the basin.
