Supki

Supki is one of the most ancient cities on Elivera. Ground zero is the ruins of a Dragios mining settlement, and above Ground Zero, several levels were built by ambitious Elivera humans. So much of ground zero has already been looted of its materials to carve the higher levels of the city, each level carved out of the mountain itself. A large drop hole in the center of the city was turned from an old lava shute into a working elevator shaft. Paths wound through carved stone buildings, and a large cavern takes up the majority of each level, with only the outer residences (often richer folks) living in the houses that have windows facing the air.   Under the first level of the city, old tunnels lead to the ruins of the Dragios, where a scientific lab still exists. Many of the tunnels are blocked off to the general public.   Light is brought into the city through carefully placed shafts embedded with moveable mirrors. The Keeper of Lights - Sinovirsi fe Tokuq are an elite group of workers who work the shafts that bring sunlight through to the city using small tunnels filled with mirrors. The keepers of the light adjust the mirrors to simulate a day and night cycle for the city. For several centuries, this was done by hand using people with specific Ability, but with recent technological advances, more of the mirrors can now be run remotely using a computer system to give them the minute adjustments necessary for a more accurate day/night cycle. However, the keepers of the light still run the system, and often must go up into the shafts to fix the mirrors themselves and the tech running them if there is a malfunction in the system.   The top levels -- specifically those carved near the top of the mountain -- have large sections of it exposed to the air and actually resembled carved buildings that ring the mountainside, with more intricate buildings dug into the central core of the mountain top. These constructed cave systems in the upper levels are where much of the energy infrastructure is housed.   Lower levels contain the bulk of the populace.

Demographics

Several different languages are spoken within the city, but the primary one is Erinevian and Sō̤xrà̤ian. The language often used for trade or government document is Elivera Trade Language.   A smaller demographic speaks Dhë̀sian or ëɻķoazä.

Government

Direct Democracy: People gather in community centers to discuss the policies of their community. Each community then sends a speaker to the Supki Vukasavin, where their policies are debated against the needs of other communities. This is then taken back to the community centers with the compromises that were make in the Vukasavin, and all the people that attend the community centers then vote. If the vote is a majority for the policies (with the compromises), the the policy passes. If the vote is split with no clear majority, the policy is either tabled or sent back to the Vukasavin with some added ideas on improvements.   The Vukasavin is made up of the speakers selected by each community. These speakers are not always the same person, and most communities tend toward a rotating list of people willing to be the speaker, so that no one serves more than two consecutive years at a time. For example, Person 1 could serve 2 years, and then not be a speaker again until five or six years later, where they could serve another two years. It all depends on the needs of the community, and who is willing, on the list, to be the one to debate for those needs.   Although the city now numbers in the millions, there is still high participation in the community centers and Vukasavin, and the system generally has a good turnout of policies and decisions.   In times of emergency, the emergency council convenes, which are a group of people elected by each community in emergency meetings. The council then makes policies and decisions only during the state of emergency, where these policies and decisions do not go back to the community centers for a majority vote. There has been relatively few state of emergencies in the history of Supki.

Industry & Trade

Supki industry is primarily in mining and refining ore into the ingredients for Growth seeds. Rare mineral veins are hidden deep in the mountain, and a maze of tunnels bored out by robots and their technicians spread out like veins from the heart of the city. These tunnels are carefully calculated to avoid any disturbance of the rock ceilings and walls that define the edges of the lower levels of the city; calculations are also used to avoid any disturbance of the Keeper of Lights - Sinovirsi fe Tokuq tunnels that bring in the sunlight to provide a day-night cycle for the lower levels.   Trade hub exists on two levels -- the top most level for trade with other countries, cities, etc -- and the middle level (level 2), where trade is conducted with those within the city. A maglev elevator connects the two hubs. The top most level also has several landing pads for aircraft, and a high speed rail system that cuts down the mountain side and across the rocky terrain between Supki and other cities.   Other industries include stone-based products and glassworks, these are primarily creator-trades, where local artists and technicians create the products to be sold in the trade hub or shared with local citizens in need.

Infrastructure

Energy
  • Powered by massive geothermal plants and solar panels that decorate the outside of the mountain.
  • electrical grid is all underground or embedded in the walls.
  • substations are hidden under metal doors and walkways.
  • each level has a recycling center attached to the trash incinerator.
Water
  • Underground aquifer houses much of the water for the city.
  • Pipes are all underground or embedded in the walls of the city.
  • Water sanitation plants are located in the lower levels, and all waste water goes through them to be cleansed for reuse.
Transportation
  • City uses primarily rails and moving pedestrian walkways for transportation options. No vehicles manned by civilians are allowed in the city walls due to the limited space.
  • Rails have stops every three blocks, but only stop when requested or if someone waits on the platform.

Guilds and Factions

  • The Keeper of Lights - Sinovirsi fe Tokuq function as a guild but also as a political faction in the Sunik Nation's Faction Counts (a sub-set of the annual person-counts).
  • Unionists: seek to embolden and uplift the rights and needs of the workers, especially those of lower pay grades.
  • Sub-dwellers: those that live in the lower echelons of the city, especially within the Dragios ruins. A secretive group; many of their policies are centered around protecting the state of the cave systems and often position themselves against further expansion of the city.
  • Technocrats: majority of those on the city's Vukasavin (council of speakers) are of this faction; they tend toward socialist ideals through the use of technology and science to aid in equalizing society.

Architecture

Buildings are carved from stone mostly, and have a flowing almost river like design to many of the shapes. Corners are sharp but the flow of the building is built to resemble the cavern's stalagmites and flowing ribbon like features. Cool air flows along aqueducts that are built underground but have open areas that release the cool condensation into the stone city. Heat is funneled through the walls and released if the buildings thermometers reach a specific level (this is individualized based on who lives there). The designs give the buildings and structures of the city a natural look, that makes them almost blend in with the natural cave formations.

Natural Resources

Carved into a mountain means the city has access to a lot of stone, igneous rock, and minerals. The foothills by the mountain, which is at the edge of a range, is full of deep soil from volcanic eruptions from when this area had a magma vein under it (this vein has since moved north several million years before the Dragios discovered Elivera), so the foothills are spotted with terraced farming that grows various types of mushrooms and melons, since not much else can grow in the ashy soil.   There are a lot of underground aquifers, so the land is lush with fresh water, and a river cuts through the range and curves around Supki's mountain on its way to the ocean. So fishing is also extensive.   Mushroom and underground animal farms are cultivated deeper within the mountain, for those mushrooms and creatures that can only thrive in the semi-darkness of the lower levels.
