Assassin in Element 133 | World Anvil

Assassin

The Assassin is a stealthy combatant that specializes in covert assassination, infiltration, and interrogation. You may select this class as your base class by selecting a Tier One Assassin class feature as your first feature, doing so grants you the abilities, proficiencies, equipment, and features listed under Base Class Features for no AXP cost. These cannot be gained from multiclassing. To multiclass to the Assassin class select any feature of your current Tier + 1 or lower and pay the appropriate multiclassing fee found in Character Creation.

A lightly armored woman steps out from within an alleyway blades drawn, in a few quick darts she skirts through the crowd gathered to watch the passing parade. Perfectly timed and executed the woman leaps onto the mayor's float and slices clean across the corrupt woman's throat. The assassin is halfway across a nearby rooftop before the first scream from the crowd alerts the guards.

A suave human has played his part perfectly, quickly rising through the ranks in a criminal organization. He now stands next to his target, as his bodyguard. His target won't be coming home from their next deal with the local weapons manufacturer. And no one will have any idea it was him.

A shiny android steps out from behind the ranks of his nation's army. Towering above the enemy line she quickly identifies the weakest links. Vanishing suddenly he teleports through the enemy rank disabling 5 men before they even make their first step.

A young man appears suddenly in your window, a cold look in his eye. Although he couldn't be more than 10, you know he's come for you. You reach for your weapon and are struck from behind. The world fades as you see him place the bloodied hammer in a cloth. You wake to see an array of tools meant only to cause pain, and the child smiling as he cleans them.

As different as these Assassins may be, they are defined by their speed, accuracy, planning, and skill with a weapon. Whether for justice, money, country, or pleasure the assassin is a formidable hunter. While the weapon of choice is often close-ranged, many assassins are skilled marksmen, able to take out a target from a distance. The assassin has no issue with death and welcomes it as the natural force it is.

Activist Assassins

Assassins have been a part of human civilization since the first grudge was held. Whether acting on their initiative or as the punishment given by an organization they have shaped the way history unfolds. There is no exception to this in the modern world, vigilante types, cybercriminals, hitmen, and even spies and covert ops soldiers are all assassins in their own right. Striving to take out a target for a gain of self and society.

Activism in the early 2020s spawned the rise of a new breed of vigilantism not seen in the modern world. With assassin types on all sides of the political spectrum. Using newfound exploitation of social media and cyber activism, these heroes/villains made a significant dent in the structure of the American government. They would have gone further if the following Second Cold War hadn't provided a common enemy, and the discovery of Element 133 hadn't upturned the world in ways no one had anticipated.

Creating an Assassin

Assassins provide a party with the skills and stealth to locate and disable targets without a full-frontal attack. Their criminal ways may often get themselves or others in trouble. But rest assured you'll be able to quickly dispatch these incursions. Additionally, in group combat, the Assassin makes great use of their opponent's distractions while fighting their allies. Multiclassing into the Fast Hero and Scout or Specialist classes will increase your effectiveness and the range of your abilities.

Assassin Quick Build

You can make an Assassin quickly by following these suggestions. First, put your highest ability score in Strength, followed by Dexterity. Second, choose the Vigilante or Criminal occupation.

    • AXP: 0
    • Pre-Requisites: Selected Assassin as base class

Beginning at 1st tier, you know how to strike subtly and exploit a foe’s distraction. Once per turn, you can deal an extra 1d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack if you have advantage on the attack roll. The attack must have a light, finesse, or a ranged weapon property.

You don’t need advantage on the attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it, that enemy isn’t incapacitated, and you don’t have disadvantage on the attack roll.

The amount of the extra damage increases as you gain tiers, as shown here.
