Character Creation: Classes

Your class describes your character's abilities. Although it is suggested by the class descriptions and is common when playing D&D 5e to identify each class with a certain playstyle or personality, bards being promiscuous, barbarians being stupid, and wizards being extremely intelligent for example. I'd like to suggest that any class can be played by any person, can describe any character, and can be used in combat, roleplay, and skill tests to great effect.

Base Class

Throughout the ruleset you have heard the term Base Class, this simply refers to whatever class you take your first feature from. Some classes, like the Android Race Classes, grant an additional base class. Selecting a class as your base class grants you certain benefits and features for no AXP cost. Selecting a certain class as your base class may also be a prerequisite for a feature.

How to Build A Class

The rules for how to choose and upgrade your class are contained in Step 3 of the Character Creation article. But here are some suggestions on what to choose! General and racial classes only have features available to select from tiers 1-6 and in general have fewer options that upgrade themselves when you gain additional tiers. To increase your tier beyond tier 6 when selecting a general or racial class as your base class you will want to multiclass to a specialty class at some point. Rules for multiclassing can also be found near the end of the Character Creation article and applies to all classes unless modified by a certain class. Each class type, General Classes, Specialty Classes, and Racial Classes come with their own set of features and feature trees, and you can find descriptions of their abilities and what types of characters they could represent (Rember it's still up to you how your character looks, acts, and engages in the game). Bellow, you can find a list of the available classes and brief info on their specifics to help narrow your search if you prefer not to read every class.
