Shadow Walker
Shadow Walkers are living shadows, parasitic entities that attach themselves to any form of life. They feed by absorbing small amounts of energy, primarily from a creature’s aura. Despite their unsettling nature, they are largely docile, drifting from one host to another simply to survive.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Shadow Walkers are living shadows, their bodies composed entirely of dark magical particles that exist in a flat, one-dimensional state. They cannot fully manifest into physical form, instead remaining bound to surfaces and darkness.
They attach themselves to the shadows of living creatures, merging seamlessly and mimicking the exact shape of their host. A Shadow Walker typically begins with a radius of about two feet, expanding only as it feeds or stabilizes its connection.
While attached, they remain nearly impossible to detect, perfectly blending with the host’s natural shadow. Their existence is subtle, parasitic, and deeply tied to the presence of light and darkness.
Biological Traits
Physical Resilience
Physical damage has limited effect on Shadow Walkers. While attacks can disrupt their form, they only remove small portions at a time. Destroying one through brute force alone is slow and inefficient, as their body simply disperses and reforms.
Resistances & Weaknesses
- Immune to Dark magic
- Vulnerable to Light magic
Growth Rate & Stages
Shadow Walkers spend most of their existence attached to the shadows of creatures or plant life, slowly feeding on traces of essence to grow. As they develop, they begin to move more frequently between shadows, transferring from one host or surface to another.
Over time, once they have accumulated enough energy, and grow to 10 foot radius they begin a form of fragmentation. When shifting between shadows, small pieces of their essence may break off and remain behind. These fragments develop into new Shadow Walkers, continuing the cycle.
Through this process, a single mature Shadow Walker can give rise to multiple offspring typically around five before weakening. These newly formed Walkers then repeat the same lifecycle.
In rare cases, however, fully matured Walker does not divide as expected. Instead, it undergoes a transformation, evolving into a far more advanced entity a Shadow Stalker Stalker.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Shadow Walkers sustain themselves by attaching to the shadows of living creatures or plant life, slowly absorbing small amounts of their host’s aura primarily the outer layer of energy that surrounds all living things. This aura provides the majority of their nourishment.
In addition to aura, they also absorb faint traces of physical essence and memory. These fragments are not taken in large enough amounts to cause direct harm, but instead are subtly integrated into the Shadow Walker, allowing it to accumulate impressions, sensations, and fragments of knowledge over time.
A Shadow Walker will remain with a host only until it has gathered enough essence. Once satisfied or when it senses a new, more desirable source it will shift to another shadow.
Signs of a Shadow Walker’s presence are often subtle. A host may feel mild fatigue or an unexplained sense of being watched. In rare cases, careful observation of one’s shadow under shifting light may reveal a second, unnatural outline moving out of sync.
Behaviour
hadow Walkers are largely passive entities. They do not actively hunt or engage with the world in an aggressive manner. Instead, they drift from one shadow to another, attaching themselves to creatures or plant life to feed.
Their behavior is purely parasitic and instinct-driven. They absorb small amounts of energy and essence, then move on once their needs are met. They show no signs of higher intelligence, acting only to sustain themselves and continue their cycle of growth and division.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Shadow Walkers can only perceive the world through shadows and through the creatures they are attached to. Their awareness is not true sight, but rather a form of sensory detection.
They “feel” what touches a shadow vibrations, movement, and presence similar to a tremor-based sense. However, they do not truly understand what they are sensing. To them, these inputs are abstract impressions rather than defined shapes or identities.
When attached to a living creature, Shadow Walkers gain fragmented glimpses of perception brief flashes of sight, sound, and sensation. Even then, this information is incomplete and poorly understood, more like disconnected impressions than clear awareness. They react instinctively rather than intelligently interpreting what they perceive.
