August The Live Story Teller

The Living Story Teller, Story of Shadow August Latina (a.k.a. Aug)

August is known as The Live Story Teller. This title was given to him by those that experienced his wonderful audience participatory shows. August is not a normal bard. He makes every performance different and unique. he plays violin and tells the stories and songs of many great heroes and legends. August likes to invite people from his audience and uses his own blend of magic to create costumes for them to wear. The outfits correlate to a portion of the story and songs and it makes the audience be part of the storytelling process. The volunteers even moves and dances to the music almost as if they already knew the moves beforehand and had been practicing it for months.  As his fame grows people come from far and near to be a part of his next performance.

Personal history

Early Years

As a kid, August loved to read about legendary creatures and heroes. He loved to read about lore, legends, and heroes all this life. When he was ten he saw his first group of bards perform the story of the hero Dale Sevives against the evil dread lord, Zord. They play several instruments told of the great battle. This was the first time heard the story of human heroes. THis experience inspired young Aug. the inspiration came because it was a story that he never heard, and he made it his quest to learn more about the stories outside his little world. He also got inspired to tell the stories he knows and makes people interested in them.
When he turned 21 it was time for him to pick the profession he was going to do for the rest of his life. His parent wants him to become a fisherman or a hunter like the rest of the family. He did not want to do either, yearning to perform he snuck out and headed to the Realm of Copper Nox, a neighboring territory. we went to the city of Wathelm because he heard of it from many adventures. The city borders three different realms. Here he knew he would find other adventures that can show him the ropes.
After making it to the city he gets lost in the tall buildings and winding streets. He asked everyone he could find about where the local adventures and bards meet.  The people told him to check the local meeting house,  The High Tin Star. He found the building, a short wide building amongst tall thin ones. He talks to the bards and they tell him that the best way to learn is to first find an instrument that speaks to him. Next, he must find what he wants to tell the people and how he wants to present it.
He felt confident in what he wanted to tell people and he knew what he wanted to learn more about. He wanted to tell the stories of great heroes and their great deeds. the only instrument he knew to play well was the flute and this instrument did not speak to him often and he felt he needed to try out other instruments till he found the one.  He went to a local store that sold good-quality instruments. he was in awe when he saw all of the different instruments.  He asked the owner of the store if she knew how to play every instrument in the store and to his amazement she confidently said she knew how to play each one a little. She allowed him to pick up each instrument and feel it in his hand and even try to strum a few off-tune notes. He fell in love with the violin once it entered his hands.  he was shocked when he saw the price knowing he could not afford such a wonderful instrument. he would need to find a job to save up enough for the violin and instruction on how to play it well. he decided that the best way to get this coin would be to adventure alongside the adventures to gain gold and stories along the way.

Adventure Years

As an early adventurer, he took a job with whichever party would have him. Sometimes he was clearing out gnoll nests and others he might be escorting caravans. during these adventures, he used his bow and his ability with illusions to take down the enemy. It took six long months of grinding to save up enough to purchase his beloved violin. The store owner offered him lessons and he willingly took her up on her offer. Even though she was strict with him he learned quickly. He felt like he was always destined to play the violin and the notes and techniques came quickly to him. Any time he meet a bard he would pick their minds for tricks and techniques of the trade, most were happy to share.
August used his illusion magic in the battles to manipulate and deceive the enemy. Sometimes he uses his magic to suggest the enemy move a certain way and he began to think about how he could use the suggestion to tell stories in the future. Over the campfire one night when his now constant companions began recounting the last battle against some undead August brought up his idea. Belladonna told him that he could pull it off no matter how hard he tried. He took her up on her offer and suggested that she be his first guinea pig.  She agreed to the challenge and said it was too complex for him to sing, cast his spell and play his instrument.   To the party's amazement, August was able to pull it off and tell a successful story with Belladonna playing the part of Helena the Bewildered. This began his time of being August the Live Storyteller.

Education

He grows up in the city of Kon. He was raised to be a hunter by his patrial side and a fisherman by his maternal side. When he went to school he learned what takes to live in a wood elf society. During his studies, he spent a lot of his time reading history books about heroes, lore, and legends. most of his early private reading came from books about those within the wood elf society. As he learned more about the heroes of his own people he became interested in the heroes that traveled alongside his woof elf brethren and ventured off to begin to read about other races.
All Elves within his community are told to learn an instrument and the flute was chosen for him. He tried to like the flute but he never felt connected to it.
Once he made it out of his village he found an instructor to help him learn the violin. His instructor Kindra was very helpful and gave him the encouragement he needed to learn the instrument well.  He saw and listened to many bards that came to this town and he loved the idea of telling the stories he know to others via song.    He learned to perform the violin and tell stories at the same time by practice. His bardic abilities came from lots of hard work and dedication to his craft.

Employment

Growing up he was trained in both fishing and hunting and he was to chose his lifelong profession at the age of adulthood. He did not like either option feeling he had a calling elsewhere. After leaving his village he did odd jobs to survive.
He visited the pub local, The High Tin Star, where adventures gathered and went on many quests. He was able to meet other adventures and Bards that would give him new stories and advice. Once he saved enough to buy a violin and purchase lessons he was all set to start his performances.  He tried to perform in every town his adventuring party went through not passing up any opportunity to perfect his art.
During his travels, he started to become well known and people began to gather in the towns that he was headed to. at this point, Theodore Millington reached out to help August manage his performances. He stopped adventuring and began to tell stories full time. He sold out many large amphitheaters at this time, including the Cunningham Ampitheater in Tazerite City.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Adventuring

August and his party were following a lead to find the infamous Shelita the Gorgan. August's party consisted of; Gabriel of the Light, the Intoxicating Belladonna,  Taniel the Immovable Flame, Sa'lein the Cryptic, and the Vitalist Carlito. Shelita the queen of Sepentara, was moving into a territory that was once home to many different races. She did not care who the previous owner was she was hell-bent on taking what she wanted. Many great adventures fought her minions and not many lived to tell the tale. After several months she settled into a summer palace of the King of Talgon. She had settled into this palace to make it her new home.
August and his companions readied for battle. They began the assault by sneaking to the northside of the fort,  at the same time the kingdom of Talgon's army attacked for east and west. The northside was a forest full of worshippers, Rock golems, Nagas and, Gorgons.  The party stood together and fought everything that crossed their path. Gabriel used the power of Hikyri to blind foes when he brought down radiant justice from his on-high god.  Belladonna used her stealth and wit to take down her foes, using her swift toxic blades, to take down even the most powerful of foes. Making their way through the hordes of foes Taniel used his natural-born flames combined with his sword and shield, he sent them to Kaze.   Sa'Lien used her abilities to enhance her allies and gracefully blow up her enemies.  Carlito used his ingenuity to create cryo bombs and it was a sight to see as the gorgons froze into place giving them a dose of their own medicine. the illustrious August fought bravely in this battle as well, using his mastery of illusion to make swift work of any and all foes.
After breaking through the line of enemies they made it into the Palace. The halls were full of statues that on the first appearance seemed eerily realistic looking and on close inspection, they realize that they are people that were turned to stone by the Queen and her army.  They battle through the halls and finally make it to the throne room, where the queen will surely be. as they walk into the room they see Shelita, seating on her throne waiting for them to enter.
The battle is arduous and grueling. Taniel gets hit with petrification in his arm and he cuts off the limb before it can fully petrify him. Belladonna gets bit by a poisonous snake but luckily she is immune to most poison and just feels exhausted. Everyone starts to look tired and weakened when Shelita shots out massive rocks at everyone. Taniel jumps up and uses his shield to block his party the best he can. Carlito uses this moment to throw smoke bombs to obscure Shelita's view to allow Gabriel and Belladonna to mount an attack. Gabriel used his light and Belladonna her Poison to try to finish off this horrible Gorgon.  Sa'Lein uses the opening to hurl ice spikes at the gorgon. with the full party efforts Shelita the Gorgon is defeated and can no longer harm anyone again.  Her Army disperses hiding where they can't be found waiting for a new leader to emerge.

Oh that is a very interesting way of performing by actually involving the audience in that way. I think it must be quite fun to be part of it ^^ Also a pretty neat background story! nice read.

Feel free to check my new world Terra Occidentalis if you want to see what I am up to!

Thank you for the comment. I wanted a unique way for a bard to tell the story. Glad you enjoyed it.

Nice character :D Remind me of circus performance where they always get people from the audience to come on stage. Though here it seems that August only wants volunteer or the magic will not work properly. Does he have a lot of volunteers? Was it also the case even when he was not as famous?

Thank you for the read. His magic does not work well when the performer is resisting, so it is best to have volunteers or set workers to perform alongside him. When a person is fighting the magic it can cause problems with the sway of the music and the story.   In the beginning, volunteers were less enthusiastic, that is why his party members and the local drunks would help him with the storytelling. For these volunteers, a simple tab at the bar would buy their help. As his fame grew more people wanted to experience the feeling of being a part of the story. the participants would tell anyone who would listen about the out-of-body experience. They felt what the character in the stories would be doing even if they thought their bodies could not bend and move that way.
