Clearing of Carabi Village Military Conflict in Ekozia | World Anvil

Clearing of Carabi Village

The Clearing of Carabi Village was considered an unfair confrontation between the Whitesteel Inc security forces and the inhabitants of the village. As part of a resettlement program for their workers, representatives of WHitesteel Inc. demanded from their employers to clear the village and relocate further west. The Carabi Villagers vehemently wanted to stay in their homes and tried to resist the demolishing crew.

Background

As granted by the Whitesteel Autonomy Decree to Whitesteel Inc., they are free to found and populate new villages solely for their workforce and families and are fully autonomous in these settlements, meaning the government of Caramiza had no justiciary influence in them.   On average, villages were relocated every two to three years and happened as such with little problems so far. Carabi Village however had existed for almost 21 years at that point and several of the current workforces had been born or at least spent their childhood in the village. Naturally, the citizens felt to have a right to stay in their homes.

The Clearing

Whitesteel Inc. provided the inhabitants with preemptive notice of two weeks, a larger timeframe than usual, to account for the unusual circumstances. While about half of the inhabitants moved without any resistance, a large group remained to protest and fight against the demolition.   The company sent a demolition crew as well as a security detail to the village, fully expecting the workers to back down due to the overwhelming numbers. However, when the demolition crew was entering the village during the early morning hours, they were greeted with bottles full of flammable liquids thrown at them. The demolition crew suffered heavy injuries and retreated in panic.   After this, the security detail started to methodically invade the village. Though being under orders to only capture and incapacitate valuable workforce, the men were very liberal with their methods. Ultimately, the well equipped quasi soldiers accepted dealing out multiple fatal injuries to the far inferior equipped and less-trained workers. Their advance was directly followed by the demolition crew and within hours, the whole village was leveled or burning and all resistance broken.

Aftermath

There have been casualties on the side of the company, but only a few. Most of the demolition crew suffered burns of varying degrees and showed signs of shock. They have been treated for their wounds and were sent to a retraining workshop to further assure their morale and loyalty.   A large portion of the insurgents have been captured, but a significant portion of the viable workforce was ultimately lost. Further resettlement efforts going forward will have to be considered using an altered approach.

Legacy

The story of the forceful resettlement got spread across worker camps quickly. Many of the demolition crew were disillusioned and shocked by what they witnessed and their accounts fueled the discontempt among the workers. The Clearing of Carabi Village quickly developed into a symbol for the forming worker's revolt.
