CoS Session 3: Monsters in the Fire
General Summary
7/3/873
- It's been one week since the party fought Marcelo
- The party has been buying supplies, Aldo did odd jobs, Catriona sold some of her pottery works
- Eventually Fallworth assigns the group on their next mission
- The assassin Vesk's crossbow was built in Avicenna
- Head to the Avicennan city of Ravi to gather intel
- Perhaps the merchant Roland and Catriona escorted can help?
- The merchant's name is Tarpin, and he agrees to take them over the mountains for 15GP each
- The journey will take about a month
- Before leaving the next day, Roland tells Catriona and Aldo about his past
- About his brother Arthur how he killed Roland’s family
- Discusses his pursuit of the Court of the Undying into the Underdark
- To his knowledge, the Underdark is shut off from above world
- It's a lengthy tale, takes over close to an hour to tell completely
- The party ventures into Avicenna
- Along the way they came across many abandoned villages and ruins, people fleeing into Gameria
- Gameth has just left the frontier to be abandoned, and Avicenna stepped in to fill the void
- Tarpin mentioned an Avicennan General named Boua Ussaki purging border of spellcasters
- They start seeing Avicennan watchtowers, a couple keeps
- One night, Tarpin convinces the group to take a detour
- He tells the party that there’s a church with a valuable relic nearby
- The party’s reluctant at first, but they agree to go for 50/50 split on the relic's earnings
- They find an ancient temple on fire in the woods
- Ghasts stumble out of the fire, nearly kill Aldo
- Lots of fighting, intense hits and near misses
- Some more ghasts start to approach Tarpin’s wagon
- Finally, Roland delivers killing blow and lobs off last Ghast’s head
- Tarpin has the statue, they all flee burning church and ghast horde
- The party makes it to Ravi
- Tarpin takes statue to an appraisement shop, gives party 500 GP each for relic
