Aasimar

"You, my child, were born for a higher purpose." -Queen Astrid Nestorius to the aasimar Flora, 896, 4th Cycle
Mortals blessed with celestial powers, aasimar first appeared in large numbers after the Ostry Apocalypse of the 3rd Cycle with the creation of the god known as The Ageless One.  When a wave of celestial energy created this powerful deity some of this energy flowed into the world's mortals and led to every sentient being carrying some aspect of the celestial within them. Many go their entire lives without this aspect every revealing itself, but for others it can lead to the creation of an aasimar. For the world's aasimar, the circumstances of their birth are a blessing and a curse: the blessing of powerful abilities and magic beyond that of some spellcasters, and the curse of oppressively high expectations to use their powers in a meaningful way.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

  • Aasimar have been born to unsuspecting families all over the world, but the arid Alharu Basin in the tiefling nation of Rakka has the highest population of aasimar in all of Pescaliat. Thousands of aasimar are born to families here every decade, and scholars have yet to determine a reason why. Aasimar in Rakkan society are treated with equal parts respect and suspicion, raised on tales about the dangers of an aasimar's celestial rage.
  • Many aasimar dwell in the holy city of Dhamma, serving The Ageless One as sacred priests and guards. Aasimar that have committed heinous crimes in Dhamma become fallen aasimar, banished from the city and never to return. A few of these fallen aasimar make their way to the yuan-ti nation of Sheyuan to serve as pawns in the kingdom's imperial ambitions.
  • Towns and villages without any aasimar treat the birth of one in various ways, some celebrating it a gift from the gods while others curse it as a sign of a dark fate. In places a such as these, an aasimar must make their own way in the world and determine how they'll use their celestial powers.
