An Dëlachadh
The Tëgryn believe that Haul refuses to allow the dead to rest without facing her judgement. They believe that the dead who have not endured Haul's flames are doomed to wander, forever denied by her cruel indifference. An Dëlachadh is a chance for the family of a fallen Tëgryn to bid their loved one goodbye one final time and to prepare their spirit for its meeting with Haul. The body is prepared for three days leading up to the final ritual: first thoroughly cleaned, then anointed all over with oils refined from the leaves of the Dùlargyd to invoke Tëseach Cysgodal's protection and guidance. The closest family member of the deceased spends each of these three nights standing vigil over the body. During this vigil, it is expected for others close to the deceased to visit and offer food and company to the vigilant and to reminisce about days gone by. They believe that speaking of the deceased near their body serves to remind them of their identity and keep their spirit from losing its way before Haul's final trial.
On the eve of the third day, the body is transported to a prepared pyre where the spirit of Haul is summoned to pass judgement upon the dead and allow the worthy to take their final rest. If the body has been properly prepared, Haul's flames consume it quickly. The intensity of the flames produced is thought to indicate her level of satisfaction with the soul presented. It is said that the flames from the pyres of the greatest Tëgryna can be seen for miles and risk setting the surrounding forest alight.
