Dùlargyd

Said to be descendants of a single sapling brought out of the Feywild by Tëseach Cysgodal himself, the wood of these massive silver-barked trees is prized beyond all others. It is at once stronger and lighter than steel and must be worked by magical means or not at all. It is also weather and fire resistant and possesses a faintly magical nature that makes pieces made of its wood far easier to enchant. It grows only in the Glyna-na-Tëgryn, whose inhabitants defend it zealously.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

The Dùlargyd grow delicate fruits to spread their seeds. The Adarian carry them far and wide, but they seem unable to take root outside of the Glyna-na-Tëgryn.

Growth Rate & Stages

A Dùlargyd sapling takes between 2,500 and 3,000 years to reach maturity. Depending on weather conditions, they grow from one to six inches a year and continue to do so until they fall. The tallest recorded Dùlargyd is Enùyn at over 3,000 feet tall.

Biological Cycle

While other species of tree shed their leaves with the coming of fall, the Dùlargyd does not. In fact, they seem to be entirely unaffected by extreme heat as well as cold. Their leaves seem to gather and amplify moonlight, making them glow gently at night. They whither and die in the absence of it, but seem to require little else including water and soil.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Some believe that the Dùlargyd are sentient, for they seem to move a limited amount in response to stimuli.
