The Dalelands
Government
The Dalelands are ruled by the Archduke, a title equivalent to that of a king in other lands, in a feudal monarchy government system.
Defences
The Dales boasted an army that consisted of highly trained infantry, archers, and mages prior to the Inquisition's creation. Now, they have been reduced in power by the outlawing of their mages, though their army is still sizeable, disciplined, and baptized by fire because of the trials and tribulations that the people of the Dales have faced in recent times.
Industry & Trade
The Dales are quite varied in their infrastructure. The capital, Daledale, was a hub of trade and magic prior to the Inquisition's rise to power. Now it has been reduced to just an area of high trade and numerous goods. Steindale, the next largest city, was known for its smithing, mining, quarrying, and masonry prior to its near-destruction at the hands of the Cult of the Dragon.
Guilds and Factions
Many lesser merchant guilds exist within the confines of the Dales, but the most notable guild in the area is the Crimson Dragons Mercenary Company. The Crimson Dragons are hailed as heroes and warriors after their lead role in defeating the Dark Druid in the year 1023 of the First Era.
History
Founded long ago, the Dales have endured for centuries. Their endurance was considered to be somewhat of an anomaly by the other realms of Vukeron due to the relatively small size of the emerging archduchy, but they would continue to struggle under the guidance of their Archdukes until they managed to carve out a sustainable and respectable realm.
During the Greenskin War of Era 1, 698 to 701 of the same era, the Dales provided a strong levy to the defense of the Kingdom of Drelvik and assisted in the reclamation of their lost holdings after the orcish hordes had conquered them. The result was a strong bond between the rulers of the two nations and subsequent trade routes being opened to the benefit of both powers.
Since the rise of the Crimson Dragons in Era 1, 1023, the Dales have become a declining power. After the death of Archduke Antonius, a number of terrible events occurred. The city of Feuerdale was assaulted and conquered by the kobold barbarian Rocktooth Bearhide and subsequently turned into the Chromatic Vale. After Archduke Antonius's nephew ascended to the throne, the bard Gustavo Maximo employed a number of tricks to attempt to drive him insane, kill him, or have him replaced in order to attempt to gain control over the region. The town of Grendale, the place where the Crimson Dragons Mercenary Guild began, had a majority population of orcs and ogres due to the amount of mercenaries living in the town. In recent times, the city of Steindale was razed by the forces of the Cult of the Dragon. The city of Valendale has finally succumbed to a crimelord and has become known as the Bloodaxe Clanhold, cedeing from the Dales in the process. The town of Grendale is now exclusively populated by orcs, half-orcs, ogres, and half-ogres and seems to be close to declaring their independence from the Dales as well.
