Magnum Opus

The rolling hills of magic. Fields of green, strong forests, lively marshes, wide Tundra, and even the stone city of Theogony bustles with life in this country, filled with Magic and crafts to no end.   Originally territory split between the countries of Atalanta, Avalon, and Agartha, this lush and varied country formed as the result of a bloody uprising almost a century before the present day, as the population, mostly poor farmers and prisoners of the former ruling nations, banded together to fight for their own rights and authority.

History

Magnum Opus was originally part of Atalanta and Avalon, but eked out their own Independence 50 years before The Border Wars, which was indirectly a key contributor to it as other large principalities, which would later become Laputa, Boncly and Alicein, wanted to do the same, sparking the debate over Borders.

Demography and Population

Magnum Opus has a large variety of races and people, especially within the capital of Theogany, but most of the population is Human to some degree, followed by Elves and Halflings, especially to the north where the stout folk along with their Dwarven brethren can handle the colder temperatures.

Territories

Magnum Opus used to be territories within Atalanta and Agartha, before splitting in 904 AC. Most of the ancestral people in those territories have remained as it became its own country, but there has also been a large amount of immigration and emigration in the decades since.

Military

The national army of Magnum Opus, The Giants Light used to be a feared and dreaded tier of warmongers and raiders in the days of The Border Wars, but under King Diomedes' rule they have been turned into a group of defenders and true protectors, with a very heavy ideal of community service, to give the soldiers enlisted a true line of mercy and an understanding of the communities they protect.

Technological Level

Magnum Opus is one of the leading countries in Artificing, mostly with Stonework Magecraft, along with Lithomancy, magic via crystals and gemstones. Many of the magical advancements utilize this technology, which puts it at a rather advanced level.

Religion

The True Giants is the main religion in Magnum Opus, although the national mood has taken a more Agnostic turn as more Arcane thinkers have begun to inhabit the land versus religious ones.

Foreign Relations

Magnum Opus, post-Border War, makes a strong effort to keep good diplomatic relations with all other countries in Edda, trying to get a good import and export system maintained to achieve that as well. The Theogany Institute for Arcane Knowledge and Mastery, for example, has an intensive scholarship program, recognizing great minds from any country and inviting them to come learn from them, and followed up by an offer to teach at the school, so new ideas of magical and cultural sharing can be given as well.

Agriculture & Industry

While Magnum Opus' greatest industries are artificing, the land is very fertile and many territories are home to wide fields of grains, although other fields are not unheard of. The snowy north has many wide spread and bounding mines, one of them even gaining the moniker of 'The Regenerating Veins' along with a bountiful fishing economy.

Trade & Transport

Within their own country, along with the main centers of commerce in the other countries, Magnum Opus relies on Mass Teleportation Circles for item transit, but for other forms of travel, automated vehicles take the forefront. Within Magnum Opus, there aren't many paved roads outside of the capital of Theogany, as the mana of nature is quite delicate where it is bountiful, therefore paving over the land in the ways necessary can be deeply harmful to the local Leylines.

Education

Magnum Opus has a public education infrastructure in place for beings of ages 5-20 years of age, with some exceptions made for shorter-lived races, along with various forms of voluntary education for longer-lived races that do not age at the same rate. Along with that, the mage college in Theogany provide Arcane training for the adept or apprentice, along with general education colleges littered across Magnum Opus.

Infrastructure

Magnum Opus installed working sewer systems with the post-border war revitalization, along with teleportation circles in close access to each other. To create new systems, there is an organization of Mana Weave Workers, mostly Druids and Wizards, to create new openings in a secure and safe way.

Major Exports
As mentioned previously, Magnum Opus keeps trade open so there is a constant cycle of Imports and Exports. The country mainly exports its Magnian Grains, used for food and drink purposes, along with prized honey made in the Marshes. Furthermore, Magnian Fir Trees are immensely efficient for the purpose of air filtration, which proves useful in Agartha, which is mostly underground, and Laputa, where there are many natural pollutants due to their experimentation.

Aside from great minds, Magnum Opus attempts to import something from each nation, along with exporting to each nation, to harbor camaraderie with them. Legislative Body
The Arcane Senate takes the considerations of Magnum Opus' people, given by governors and representatives, and decides courses of action with King Diomedes, or with pre-arranged rules he has put in place for the purpose of expediting.
Judicial Body
The laws of Magnum Opus are upheld by strong units of guards posted in every town, trained to not only be vital defenders but pillars of community assistance as well, many are craftsmen as well as soldiers, along with jury-based courts in accordance to the rules decided on by The Arcane Senate.
