New Rocheron

New Rocheron, the heart of the empire and symbol of hope for the future.

Introduction:

New Rocheron, formerly known as Lunaria and "The Moon," is the capital planet of the Illithid-Dilug Intergalactic Empire of New Rocheron and the adopted homeworld of the Illithid and the Dilug. It currently houses 43.9 billion people, most of whom live either in massive cities or large underground caverns. New Rocheron is the third planet in the Supreme Solaris system.

Description:

New Rocheron was originally the airless moon of Rocheron. Upon Rocheron's destruction, its moon was automatically upgraded to planet status. The debris from Rocheron eventually formed a ring system around the newly-classified planet.   New Rocheron is 60% ocean and 40% land. The land is mostly concentrated in one massive land mass. The rest of the land is spread between the dozens of craters that breach the ocean's surface. The land is mostly covered in blue grass, but a few craters have green plants instead.   The large land mass is dominated by enormous cities, several of which are hundreds of kilometers wide. There are very few large areas of natural landscape, with most of the planet covered in civilization.

Terraformation:

It was decided that New Rocheron (at the time still called "The Moon") would be terraformed into the new homeworld of the illithid and dilug. While Solesta had been the adopted homeworld of the two founding species for over 200,000 years, the golden age the empire was experiencing filled every citizen with a sense of pride and ambition. As a small airless body, the moon would prove difficult to terraform. The terraformation was performed over several stages, detailed below:   -The creation of a thick, deadly atmosphere (6 years)   -Flooding the surface with water to create vast oceans (3 years)   -The introduction of microorganisms to alter the atmosphere to a safe composition (37 years)   -Installing artificial gravity on the surface in order to establish a surface gravity of 1 G (4 years)   -Selectively lowering the sea level to stabilize the global water cycle and form landmasses (12 years)   -Introducing life to the oceans and land to slowly transform the world to one teaming with life (78 years)   -Colonization
