Session 7: Assault on Malachite Fortress

Late Afternoon (3:00 PM)
Deep below Cauldron, the party assaults the Malachite Fortress. They battle warforged guarding a handful of prisoners. An alarm is rung. Fighting across two stone bridges above a chasm, the party splits their forces to prevent any slave buyers from escaping into the Underdark. Tim is nearly slain by Kazmojen, the warforged captain. Detlev d'Cannith slays the captain and the party triumphs.Aftermath
Freeing the prisoners, the party meets Corystan Pike and the four orphan children, along with four other prisoners (three weakened humans and gnome mathematician who's gone slightly mad). Kazmojen was in possession of a crate of Dragonshard Cannonry components, with a shipment manifest from Zorlan d'Cannith, addressing the shipment to be delivered to "the Blue Duke of Cauldron". Kazmojen also had two letters, one from "Orbius" demanding the return of the orphan Terrem, and another from an unkown sender warning Kazmojen against getting greedy and reckless. The party takes the five slave buyers prisoner and interrogate them, learning that:- One of the buyers is a dwarf named Pyllrak who runs a mine beneath Cauldron.
- Another of the buyers is a proxy for someone named Lord Ashmantle, a local noble. In exchange for this information, the party allows this proxy to go free.
- The buyers don't know anything about the Blue Duke mentioned in the shipment manifest, but Corystan Pike says that Kazmojen spoke of a Blue Duke as his superior.
- Similarly, no-one has heard of "Orbius".
- "The Last Laugh" is identified as the reigning thieves' guild in Cauldron.
- All of the buyers learned about the slave auction at the Tipped Tankard Tavern, a tavern of ill repute.
Evening
The party turns in four of the buyers to the Cauldron City Guard, releases Lord Ashmantle's proxy, and transports the freed prisoners to Church of the Silver Flame, Cauldron under the cover of darkness.Rewards Granted
