Gwen Frost
Investigator
Hailing from Sharn, City of Towers, Gwen Frost has always been fascinated by Goblin history. Sharn itself was built on top of goblin ruins, but access to the lower levels is highly restricted. Out in Q’barra, Morgrave University research teams can explore Dhakaani Empire ruins without bureaucratic red tape.
Six months ago, the research team was traveling through northern Q’barra when a web-lurker ambushed the group. Several researchers were killed, and the rest were taken prisoner by the monster, intending to feed them to its giant pet siders. Detlev d’Cannith and a local bounty hunter rescued the team and together they defeated the spiders. In the web-lurker’s cave, she found the bones of several dwarves. Amongst their skeletons, she uncovered the hilt of a broken sword with a blade of pure Byeshk, a rare purple metal known only to ancient goblin smiths. Traces of magic linger on it, but whatever enchantment was once there is shattered like the rest of the weapon.
While the rest of the research team was eager to continue south, something about this broken sword beckons to her. It's clearly forged by ancient goblins, so why did the dwarves have it? The local goblin tribe (the Crimson Leaves) shared oral histories, mostly myths about heroes that fought the lizardmen and nightmarish creatures that steal dreams. Purple swords feature in some of the myths, and she’s found a handful of other Dhakaani trinkets that suggest the ancient goblins had an established community somewhere in this area. She’s spent months searching for the ruins, and isn’t ready to give up yet.
