Favor in East Marches | World Anvil

Favor

Favor is essentially a type of premium meta currency that can be earned by players. Favor is granted per player, regardless of how many characters they might be playing as, and there are several methods by which to gain Favor. It is used to purchase various types of Boons or bonuses for your character(s). Because of this, the staff will keep records of how much Favor you have gained and, in order to spend Favor and redeem rewards, a Favor Expenditures form will need to be submitted and approved before its effects can be utilized.   Click here to view the Favor Tracker

How to Gain Favor

  • DM Reviews: Complete a DM Feedback Form after a session to receive 1 Favor.

  • Session Reports/AARs: Submit a narrative recap, or "after action report", using this form to receive 1 Favor. A bonus 1 Favor can be gained by submitting this report within 7 days of the session. When your report has been posted, it will be available to read in the Session Reports subcategory.

  • World Anvil Contributions: You can be awarded a minimum of 1 Favor for submitting other information to be added to this site. Newly discovered or created locations, lore, important items, or updates to existing entries can be submitted using this same form as above. Information regarding people and characters will use this form instead. Additional Favor may be granted based on the quality of the content submitted.

Writing Vignettes is another way to gain favor in this manner. These can be any creative prose from private character journal entries to omniscient, third-person windows into the living world of Idriell. If an important event happens to your character off screen, this is a good place to put it.

  • Learning a Tool: Whenever a character learns a new tool (260 CP worth, musical instruments are not applicable) via the downtime system, they will be awarded a whopping 10 Favor for their hard work and dedication! No Favor will be rewarded if a tool's CP is purchased using Favor.

  • Donating Magical Items: Should you have a magic item you gained on an adventure and no longer feel you have a use for it (and don’t want to give it to anyone), you can use this form and donate it to the Frontiersman for a favor reward based on its rarity.
    Common: 1 Favor
    Uncommon: 2 Favor
    Rare: 3 Favor
    Very Rare: 4 Favor
    Legendary: 5 Favor
    Artifact: 10 Favor

Items that are bought or crafted are not eligible for this method. In some cases (with some of the homebrew artifacts, character-specific items, and plot items), the DM that created the item must sign-off on its sale.

  • Retiring a PC with Favored Boons: As a ‘farewell refund’ of your long-term character, the boons that your retiring PC has can be refunded for ⅕ of their value.
    Bronze: 1 Favor
    Silver: 2 Favor
    Gold: 4 Favor
    Platinum: 5 Favor

  • DM Rewards: DMs and other Staff members may reward players for assisting with out-of-game tasks/duties or for in-game feats such as good roleplaying, clever thinking, or even simply doing something exciting.

How to Use Favor

Favored Rumors

You may spend a minimum of 5 Favor to receive a custom Rumor from the Dungeon Masters. These Rumors allow you to tailor adventures more towards your character. The 5 Favor minimum ensures that you have a spot in the adventure and can work with the DM running the session to select the party that will accompany you. Additional Favor can help include other details and goals. Speak with a DM to figure out the total cost. If you wish to purchase a Rumor, simply select the option on the Favor Expenditures form and fill in the details.

Favored Boons

You may spend Favor to purchase various, random, single-use Boons that can grant all manner of effects. These Boons are divided into 4 tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Click here to view the Favored Boons List!   The number of Favored Boons a character may hold onto at any one time is equal to their Proficiency Bonus.   The table below shows the Favor cost for each tier and their associated die roll:
Tier
Favor Cost
Dice to Roll
XP Cost for Permanence
Bronze53d2850,000
Silver103d32100,000
Gold203d28150,000
Platinum253d22N/A
Random (All Tiers)153d110N/A
If you would like to purchase one of these Boons, follow these steps:
  1. Either choose a tier or decide to take a chance on all four tiers.
  2. Ensure you have enough Favor for your purchase.
  3. Head to the #favor-rolls channel on Discord.
  4. Use the "!r" command to roll the dice associated with your selected tier. (see table)
  5. From the 3 results, choose your Favored Boon!
  6. Complete the Favor Expenditures form
If there are any issues (i.e., not enough available Favor or Boon limit reached) a staff member will notify you and your Favor will be refunded.   Purchased Favored Boons may be traded with other players. Simply @ the receiving player and mention the Boon being transferred in the #player-exchanges channel on Discord.   Characters that reach the 20th Level may choose Boons in the Bronze, Silver, or Gold tiers to keep as permanent abilities/effects! To do so, they must be able to provide the necessary amount of Favor for the Boon’s tier as well as an amount of XP in excess of what is required for 20th Level (i.e., a character will need a minimum of 5 Favor and 405,000 XP to receive a permanent Bronze Boon). A roll is not required, simply select a Boon from the list, and submit the Favor Expenditures form. Such Boons may only be activated once per Short Rest and will count against the total number of Boons they may have at any one time.

Favored Benefits

Before setting off on an adventure you may spend Favor to receive a Benefit from one of the various Structures that have been built in Vareholm. Benefits apply to the entire party and are only available for a single session (if you don't use it, you lose it). To purchase a Benefit, simply select your choice on the Favor Expenditures form and fill in the details. Players may pool their Favor together to buy Benefits. Be sure to notify your DM if you wish to utilize these options.   The following is a list of currently available Benefits:

Unlock Server Homebrew Spell for Class Spell List

Homebrewed spells are no longer shareable. The characters currently with them retain them, however they cannot be taught to others unless the required favor is spent. The Favor required is 2x the spell's level. For example, a 4th Level spell will cost 8 Favor, a 6th Level spell will cost 12 Favor, and so on.
