Apollonia Angelopoulos (a.k.a. The Avenger)
Loni is compassionate, upbeat, and joyful. As a student, she is focused and studious. She is very well known at the local Greek Orthodox church, being a constant figure. She can be at times a bit oppressive when it comes to prayer, constantly reminding her twin Artemio Angelopoulos to pray before meals and to say his evening prayers. However, unlike her brother, she is street-smart and able to quickly read the good/ill intentions of others.
She quickly befriends Ricardo Sá Cully, Picasso Sá Cully and Jenelle Fuentez, while maintaining distance from Neko and Asher Katzman.
In general though, her soft spoken and introverted nature often leads to her being overlooked and unnoticed. Even her friends have difficulty recalling memories where Loni is present. She is the type of person who just naturally blends into the background.
At the death of her twin brother Art, Loni is broken. Her grief is all consuming and she is often seen at his grave dressed in all black and wearing a veil. Eventually her grief turns to anger, and little by little Loni’s anger consumes her until she is driven by only hatred and vengeance. She lays the blame of the death of her brother on Jenelle (Griselda), Dr. Bandoni, and Asher's actions.
Loni is unaware of the duel identities of Jenelle and Griselda. So while Jenelle has steadfastly remained Loni’s friend, it was Griselda who whispered poisonous words in Art’s ear.
Asher broke his heart, while Dr Bandoni tormented Art until finally he took his life.
Once her plans are set in motion, Loni orchestrates elaborate schemes to manipulate the people around her enemies, even those she once called friends. She recruits an unwitting Karandeep Kaur to help create outlandish costumes which help her pose as a beggar, a theif, a pirate, a nun, a nurse, a bank clerk, and a Italian noblewoman. All Karandeep knows is that she’s been commissioned by an unknown benefactor known as C. Elba.
She owns a ship, the Dantès, which plunders Avalon’s trade ships, amassing a great deal of wealth to fund her schemes. As a pirate, she is known as the exotic and mysterious Scheherazade. Rumours say she was a Persian heiress who lost her fortune, however no one can explain why she choose the waters around Avalon to establish as her home.
As a Noblewoman, she is the Countess Edmonda of Elba, an extravagant show(wo)man who puts on elaborate shows, including an opera starring Karandeep in the titular role.
However, when Loni sees a reanimated Artemio, her plans fall apart. All the grief she had repressed boils over and she breaks character in front of Karandeep, who can’t help but notice something oddly familiar about the Countess. Thinking on her feet, Loni convinces Karandeep that the Countess was simply weeping over the fact that Artemio resembles her long lost love, Albert.
Bound by a new mission, to see Artemio returned to his final resting place, Loni joins the female vigilante group - the Butterflies . After many successful missions, Loni builds confidence amongst the ladies and is able to open up to them about her true identity. She explains that her goal is to kill Artemio, not out of malice, but compassion. She believes that the creature that now possesses Artemio’s body is nothing but a soulless husk. It’s unnatural, and a desecration to Artemio’s memory.
Eventually Loni and Artemio face off after Loni captures Asher. Her intent is to torture him, making him relive the guilt he has for the pain he’s caused Rick, Artemio, Loni, and the others around him. Forced to protect every Jew in Glendale, Artemio is bound to rescue Asher no matter who it is that stands in his way. Artemio finds Loni and begins to choke her, she is about to pass out when she uses the last of her strength to thrust a knife upward, into Artemio’s heart. As Artemio slips away, Loni is able to say the goodbye to Artemio that she was originally robbed of.
Authorities swarm the building and see Loni standing over the lifeless body of Artemio. Asher is rescued from his torture chamber just before his insides are eaten by rats. The paper brands her as a psychotic killer, a murderess who slays innocents without mercy. A full accounting of her crimes add up to a death sentence. Hung for her crimes, Loni’s body is donated to the university for study. The Rabbi who created Artemio is informed of the special delivery. Despite his best efforts, he has been unsuccessful reanimating Artemio a second time. Needing a replacement, “Golem,” Loni is reanimated to take his place.
The new Loni is much like her brother, endowed with super strength and unable to die.
Unable to remember her past life, Loni forgets her vendetta against Asher and Jenelle.
