Artemio Angelopoulos (a.k.a. The Golem)
Initially Artemio is the hard working and dedicated twin brother of Apollonia Angelopoulos .
He is quiet and soft spoken. He is not fully accepted by his family and culture as gay man, so he does his best to hide his true identity. He strikes up a romance with Asher Katzman even though he knows of Asher's relationship with Ricardo Sá Cully . The guilt eventually overwhelms him and he falls into a deep depression. After several attempts to take his life, Art is hospitalized. He refuses to take his meds properly, fearing that they would strip him of his memories and his identity. Eventually the dark thoughts become too much, Art kills himself after writing an apology note to Rick.
Upon receiving the letter, Rick is conflicted. He has been trying hard to forgive Asher, but this new reminder of Asher's actions bring up all those feelings of hurt, shame, and anger. Rick takes the letter to his Rabbi to ask for his advice. The Rabbi takes the letter and finds Artemio at a local funeral home. Claiming Artemio is someone else, the Rabbi convinces the funeral director to release the body.
Several weeks later a new Art appears. This one, looking almost identical to the last has a single focus. His mission is to protect Glendale's Jews - in particular Rick. At times he's conflicted as to what to do with Asher. His mission is to provide protection to all Jews, including Asher. However, a small piece of Art's former live remains.
Occasionally he experiences flashbacks. Some of his past life, others of what he remembers of heaven. When confronted by Apollonia Angelopoulos, Art becomes angry and confused.
He resents being brought back to life.
Will Art be able to regain his humanity? Only time will tell.
