Windlost Buildings {Temples}
The Windlost Temples are the oldest things in the realm of Aerava. Made of a strange architecture, with no comprehensible writings anywhere on them, the both function and creators of the Temples are lost to time. Some researchers on the subject exist, although their theories range from an ancient species to creatures from another world. Regardless, there appears to be more total mass of these Windlost Temples than any created by the three realms.
The Windlost Temples have been described to be an eerie and empty place. Simply looking at them, one might think that it could provide an exceedingly lavish living space. However, step one foot in and all but the least observant souls will feel ill at ease. It has been quoted to be "hard to describe", but most say that they feel as if they are being observed, or are seconds from being killed, as if they were a pest. Whistling winds provide the backdrop to the Temples, along with the natural sounds of whatever monster or contraption may reside within them. This easily sends most inexperienced adventurers packing, but heading further deeper into the Temples, and one may encounter any number of strange magical fields, mechanisms or strange areas, all potentially harmful. It would take someone exceptionally brave or insane to make a camp here.
Often, these temples are massive pieces of what appears to be an even larger structure. Rarely boasting a roof below 25 feet per floor, the Windlost Temples are made of some strange material, very similar to Skystone in makeup, the material becomes highly unstable if removed. However, and somewhat luckily, it is exceedingly difficult to break or reshape this material. Reshaping it either fails completely, or it simply returns to its original form, often harming casters or mechanisms who attempt. Breaking it has happened only a handful of times, and according to notes by nearby observers, it released a massive wave of both mental energy and archaic magic. All who were nearby disappeared instantaneously, along with the broken piece. The buildings themselves are made up of inlays geometric in shape, often favoring diamonds, squares and circular motifs, with oddly smooth curves and edges, resembling no other architecture.
The buildings themselves pose a significant threat to Aerava in several ways. Although their elevation is much above Sky Isles, the temples and buildings provide havens for potentially harmful monsters and beings. Wisp Dragons, wyverns, and Bubbleloons take up residence in these temples, and if allowed to flourish and grow, could be devastating to Aerava. In addition Contraptions wander the temples, which have bounties placed on them for dismantlement and delivery to the Adventurer's Commission or other organizations. For now, they simply wander the Temples, but if they were ever to unleash a unified assault, as many researches fear, the ancient magic and weapons of Contraptions would destroy cities. For now, the Windlost Temples remain mysterious and a hardly a consideration to many ordinary folks.
