Lôxin LX - Mushroom Harvester

“What do you have to pay attention to when harvesting mushrooms?” Nîm, the intelligent professor of fungineury at the Mushroom Academy of Tirvox ad Coimi, asked his students.
“Not to step on the mushrooms?” was one student’s questioning answer.
"Maybe, the right posture...", one of the students took a short break to think: "... and, the right cut."
"Very true!" was the professor's answer. He ran to the board where there was a huge blueprint and used his pointer to explain the individual components and functions of a Lôxin LX - one of the most important inventions since the discovery of magic mushroom meadows.

The Invention

As the weather in Âdocoris became warmer and wetter at the end of the Age of the Ancestors, the yield in the Magic Mushroom Meadows increased from year to year, requiring more and more harvest workers. The prospective students of the Mushroom Academy were also deployed in the months with the largest mushroom harvests, although they were little or not used to this hard work. Among them was Înin, the researcher, one of the best students of her time, who had discovered the mushroom magic matrix at a very young age and was therefore one of the rising stars in the Funghineur sky.   During her assignment, Înin learned about the difficulties such as back curvatures, light-footed pedaling and the slow work of mushroom harvesting and began to jot down ideas and small drawings for a harvesting machine on loose pieces of paper. It took her about two years to develop the machine and on the 10th of Lârisâdi 256 AEC she submitted the patent for the Lôxin LX to the Elaqitan Oversight Board for Tinkerer. The original blueprint is now in the Museum of Goblin Technology at Tirvox ad Coimi in Âdocôris.

Appearance, Function & Effects

The 8th generation Nù LX-8 model is approximately two meters high. The machine resembles a giant ant with six long legs and small feet. The feet have an air-filled attachment to prevent them from sinking even in wetter meadows, as well as a narrow tip in the middle. This allows her to move over the magic mushroom meadows without destroying the mushrooms. At the same time, the soil is ventilated through the top.   The Lôxin LX is controlled by a mushroom keeper who sits in a cabin at the "head" of the machine. The engine located at the rear of the walking harvester contains earth magic energy stones for propulsion. The legs and harvesting arms can be controlled individually or simultaneously.   The harvester is equipped with six harvesting arms and one cutting arm, which are fixed to the lower belly. Each arm has two ball joints, which ensures optimal alignment with the mushrooms, and moves in a separate rail system. The harvesting arms have a suction cup at the end that gently docks onto the mushroom caps without destroying them. A small rotating saw blade is mounted at the end of the cutting arm, which cuts the mushrooms just above the ground by moving the arm back and forth on a horizontal rail. Since the mushrooms are not torn out of the ground but cut off, the mushroom harvest is also guaranteed next year.   When the mushrooms have been harvested, the harvesting arms transport them through the vertical rails into a collection container located in the "belly" of the machine. Before the harvesting machines were used, around two tons of mushrooms were harvested annually. Today it is around 13 to 15 tonnes per year.   One harvester replaces up to five harvest workers. Since the machines were used, illnesses such as back curvatures and diseases caused by fungi have been significantly reduced.

Such a funky little machine! It's very adorable and, it seems, very practical for mushroom harvesters as well. I wonder what the harvest workers who used to work in the meadows think of this new invention? Are there veteran harvesters who grumble about machines replacing their carefully honed art of harvesting?

Thank you for liking the invention. The machine has been in use for over 1000 years. Many helpers were recruited to help with the harvest without really having any knowledge of the harvest. There were certainly skeptics at first, like everywhere else, but now people have gotten used to it and the mushroom harvest is the most important resource in Âdocôris.

Oh wow I did not know they had such a long history! Definitely enough time to get used to these machines.

I love the mushroom harvester and I want 12. I enjoyed reading about how it works, and I like that you thought about how not to have it sink in muddy ground. :D

Thank you so much for your lovely comment and your order. The goblins are trying to deliver them as quickly as possible.

Very nicely written article. I also love that blueprint image!

Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. I hadn't actually planned this article, but I had a lot of fun inventing this little machine.

Your pages are always so clean and beautiful. Just wanna get that out of the way. <<   Also! Not stepping on the mushrooms seems like step one. Sound advice. XD See a need, fill a need is how great, or incredibly useful, inventions are made, after all. I like the seemingly innocuous way something so minor would come about when, really, that's how most invention ideas are sprung. How to make life, or a task, easier.   Now the idea that one little driver is going to operate all dem legs and the arms to harvest the mushrooms makes me think they'd need like a special liscense or something because jeeeeez that looks like it'd be such a hectic thing to try and figure out. Driver's Ed for the machines would be a funny thing to watch.

Aww, it means so much to me to read your detailed and kind comment. Unfortunately, I'm something of a technical cupcake and really don't know much about it, but I'm glad I left my comfort zone and ventured into the invention. The fact that others still find it somewhat functional or plausible makes me even happier.

I think part of the pretty mysticism is that I don't know - and you would've fooled me that you didn't! Love the term technical cupcake. Prolly gonna steal that. Your adventure into something new definitely paid off and it turned into a delightful read. <3
