Leaf Changing festival

Dear family,
let us thank the gods for their good gifts and blessings. Eat of everything, for it will bring bad luck in the coming year if you do not eat of everything. And don’t forget your good wishes!

Vârcis, the bearish - clan leader -

The Leaf Changing Festival is the most important holiday on Brictaelgis. The goblins always celebrate this on the 1st of Êtâdi to thank the six gods who controlled the growth of nature and the weather from the 1st of Midrâdi to the 28th of Lântâdi and blessed the goblins with rich gifts.   Goblins prefer to spend the day with the clan and family. It is traditional for the Âdocôdix clans to gather around lavishly laid tables and honor each god with a special dish. The sequence of dishes is popularly called “Sechserlei” and each meal has a special meaning. When the family gets together in a small group in the evening, small gifts are distributed among each other and good secret wishes for the coming year are "smoked".

Origin

The festival is said to have originated around 500 years after the fall of the first civilization in Âtogôrsa (today Âdocôris) around 7,000 BEC.   According to a legend, a great tribal leader considered himself stronger, wiser and more important than the gods themselves. They then punished his people with three years of starvation and many died of disease. Only when the tribal leader realized his mistake did the gods relent. But they now demanded annual thanks from the goblins as reward.

Preparations

Days before the holiday, the clans begin preparations and decorate the festival halls with garlands made of colorful leaves, twigs, dried flowers and fruits of the fields and forest. They set up long tables so that all members have space. The tables are set with leaf wreaths, Batmùne lights and lots of tableware.   In the kitchens, the women and girls cook, bake and prepare all six important dishes as well as lots of herb breads.

Official thanks to the gods

In the morning, the clan members gather at the great shrines of their gods. The druids of the clan make small offerings and ask for the rebirth of nature in the coming year.   Three dance circles are then formed, consisting of children, women and men. While the innermost and outermost circles move in one direction, the middle circle with the women in the middle dances in the other direction. There are six changes, which symbolizes the change of nature in the annual cycle, the 12 months and the 6 nature gods. After a final prayer, the clans move into the banquet halls.
Have you found all the pieces of the puzzle?

1. Êlgista - Goddess of Earth
The wreath is an offering to the
Goddess of the Earth
The earth gives, the earth takes back.   2. Âdocôdix - Goblin
The Leaf Changing Festival is a
Family celebration.   3. Brictaelgican Cuisine
Food plays with Brictaelgican
Six Dishes an important role.

Brictaelgican Six Dishes

There is a free choice of seating at the tables, but they usually sit together as a family. The prepared food is cooked and fried by the women in the huge kitchen and then distributed to the tables. The menu at Six Dishes is based on the changing year calendar. Each dish is dedicated to a god. All dishes must be tried as each dish has a special meaning for the coming year. Anyone who refuses will bring about misfortune next year. Moosale, forest drops and green mead are served as drinks. There are also flatbreads, spices, herbs and herbal fats on the tables.

Tâmid - Moonsoup

The soup contains dried moonberries, moonwort and moon turtle. They represent clear senses and wisdom.

Êlgista - Winter vegetable patties

Root vegetables and cabbage represent the faith that should never be lost. The earth supports goblins even in dark times.

Tràllox - All kinds of meadows with sprouts and seeds

This salad represents the first new leaves, shoots and seeds to be planted.

Brictissa - Brictaelgican boar or silver deer

The flesh represents the power of nature, which has now come to life everywhere and is multiplying.

Mîrta - Herb dumplings with summer vegetables

The dumplings represent the wealth of nature. The vegetable symbolizes splendor and invincibility.

Lânis - Acorn and honey cake

Acorns symbolize new beginnings as well as endurance and strength. Honey represents happiness and the resurrection of nature in the coming year.

Festive hours & many good wishes

Good Wishes by Blue Fairy 74 via Midjourney

After dinner and one or two cozy goblin hours with music, singing and little mock jokes of some anecdotes from the current year, the families make their way home.

The family gathers in a circle and small, homemade gifts are distributed. This task is very often taken on by the children. The secret wishes of the last year are revealed before everyone writes down 12 new wishes for the coming year.

For the ritual 12 fireproof bowls are placed in a circle on a table and each bowl is filled with a smoking mixture. The mixtures also have different meanings and are dedicated to the 12 months after and before Êtadi.   The mixtures are then lit one after the other and the wishes of the respective month are burned in the respective bowl. Of course, the wishes must remain secret so that they come true in the coming year.

I love all the symbolism woven throughout the festivities. I think my favourite part is after the big meal and dance, when they are all home and reveal the wishes from the previous year. That sounds so heartwarming.

Oh thank you very much, this holiday is a small homage to my homeland and the history that our ancestors left us over thousands of years ago.

This is such a lovely article to read! Just this one article feels like it really captures the essence of the goblins of Brictaelgis. I like that you have considered so many aspects of the festival, from the preparations and build up, to the history and traditions that make come to life. Then when I got to the comments section and saw in your response to Vazdimet that this is an homage to your homeland, well. Your ancestors are surely smiling down on you that you have honoured your roots in such a beautiful way.
