Session 75: Six Nights in Bazkhi

General Summary

The Wildcards depart The Refuge for Bazkhi, and spend some time recuperating and replenishing their supplies, as well as liquidating their loot. But as they are about to launch a plan to try and access the Old City, disaster strikes.   Session Commenced:
The 15th day of Cyt, 1622 TER
(Day 532 of the campaign)   Session Concluded:
The 21st day of Cyt, 1622 TER
(Day 538 of the campaign)
  69 days since Departing Phandalin.
We begin the session with a flashback as, in the Refuge, Syr Galindann, bruises and injuries fading following his battle with Zitonai, doffs his armour. His skin now alabaster white, heralding a change in seasons, he made his way to the platform to the west of the oasis and, settling to his knees, drew from his pack a beautiful tea set, preparing a pot from his dwindling supply of Sylvan tea.   Phaes approached, sharing tea and a few words with Galindann, before retiring to her room. As he finished the tea, Galindann also drew forth a pipe and prepared a bowl of sylvan tobacco. Smelling the fragrant smoke, Gemris was drawn to the knight, and they shared a smoke for a while.   Their time in Refuge at an end, The Wildcards with the assistance of Voyage were teleported to the City of Cloth, Sofia managing to keep her breakfast down as they crossed the river and made their way into the tent city. Aware of their previous encounter with the Bulls of Byriae at the Coiled Viper, and also flush with coin, the Wildcards sought out more luxurious accommodation, finding themselves in a well appointed inn called the Fourth Suq's Bounty, where the newly rich party began showering the staff with gold and platinum.   A group of the Wildcards made a trip to the Ochre Bazaar, where Gemris sought a craftsman who could turn her salvaged dragonhide and scales into new armour to replace that which was abandoned beneath the Thunderglass Canyon. Eventually they found a forge where a traveling Waywright, a Delver mastercraftsman, had set up shop. Despite Gemris' obvious excitement at meeting another delver, and a good looking one at that, Adrick of The Auldwright Assembly had eyes only for the dragonhide she had brought him. He set about fashioning dragonscale armour for the ranger, and in short order Skulk had also brought his extracted dragonstooth to the delver to be fashioned into a new blade.   While some of the Wildcards visited the Silver Reeds baths to clean up after weeks of dangerous travel, Morthak and Sofia visited the apothecary of Old Maggs, where they stocked up on magical supplies. Sofia traded most of her butchered dragon parts for an ancient and rare scroll she hoped to transcribe. Skulk would later purchase some poison from the old Aven lady.   Reaching out to Yevyn Gafferworker, the Wildcards arranged a rendevous in the Fourth Suq's Bounty. Here, the Gnome revealed the results of his research into the history of the Darkpoint, known to the Nythrians as the Nyxpoint. Yevyn had discovered an oddity, a particular a passage from an ancient song, Ten Thousand Sails, which he had discovered in an ancient text illuminated with a woodcut of the Darkpoint surrounded by a myriad of stars, including one star within the point itself, an observation not made anywhere else in the literature. He also highlighted the linguistic oddity in the translation of the song, in a passage that seemed to refer to literal wings, rather than allegorical ones.   When Yevyn discovered that the Wildcards were being pursued by the Magistratum, he rapidly arranged to leave. Sofia convinced him to illuminate a scroll that she was searching for, for a small fee, which the gnome had delivered to the inn the next day.   Seeking access to the Old City again, Morthak and Gemris approached Sebecc, the promoter who had previously arranged for their arena fight and subsequent access to the fete within the old city walls. Sebecc suggested the Wildcards enter the group trials, and eagerly sponsored them into the arena fights several nights hence.   Gemris and Skulk collected their newly crafted items, and the entire group presented to the Arena the night of the trials. Syr Galindann accompanied the rest of the group down to the gladiator pens ready to mend any wounds from the fight, while the rest of the group prepared to compete. In the pens they were introduced to Dultharm, the duergar pit master, and his security, the ogre Nonk. The crowded pens heaved with machismo as groups nearly broke into fights early, Nonk using his greatclub to good effect to separate the rowdy gladiators. Dultharm ushered the Wildcards into one of the pens, locking the barred doors, which Skulk just as quickly and quietly unlocked.   As the time of their fight neared and the pens emptied out, a gnomish man nochalantly swept his way past the Wildcards' pen. Dultharm made an excuse to leave... as suddenly the entire pen was sunk into an unnatural silence. The gnomish man rushed forwards, gripping the handle of the broom and snapping it over his knee, drawing the broken shaft up into a combat pose as two squads of guardsmen trooped into the pens, crossbows leveled at the Wildcards. Skulk attempted to open the cage door - which he discovered was locked again.   As the Wildcards drew weapons and began to try and strike at the gnomish fellow through the bars, a large, heavily built Orc rushed foward, stopping at the bars, before sending a telepathic message to Morthak.
My lady. I know you wish no harm to come to your companions. Lay down your arms and surrender and I give you my word that no further harm will come to you. You and your people will be treated with respect and you will be given a fair hearing. I swear it.

Ten thousand sails adrift on a starlit sea.
As night bathed them they departed.
