Tyree

A medium-sized independent town on the southern edge of the Northern Sister Peaks.   Tyree, like Maksur, was originally founded to industrially mine large amounts of stone, specifically granite and marble, and minerals such as quartz and silver. While Maksur gradually supplemented its mining income with adventurers, monster slayers and bounty hunters, Tyree remained primarily focused in mining. Thanks to their distance from The Darkwood Forest, they face much less threat from monsterous aberrations, and can focus most of their militia and security around defending the mines themselves, both inside and out.   Tyree was ruled for multiple generations by the Hildrenbacken royal family, nobles of high blood that had escaped Vorkan during a particularly bloody criminal revolt. Despite not being from a traditional working class, the family quickly won over the hearts and loyalty of the small mining settlement, quickly being instated as monarchs after they facilitated the town's final push for independence from Vorkan, to whom they had been a vassal state. The Hildrenbacken royal family continued their rule with positive response, growing the town into a medium-sized city-state kingdom that managed to plant itself firmly on the growing trade route across northern Obeavos.   Ten years ago, Reginald Louis von Hildrenbacken VI and Helen Jane von Hildrenbacken II, current monarchs of the city, were made aware of an attempt by the king's brother, Theodoric, to usurp the thrown. Theodoric, despite being of the same name, had been estranged from the family after showing considerable signs of malcontent and hostility towards his brother, who he saw as a lesser king than he would be. An uprising occured, though due to the overwhelmingly positive position of most of the kingdom's people towards the monarchs it was rather easily quelled. Not wanting a potential martyr, and unwilling to sentence his own brother to death, Louis instead banished Theodoric from the kingdom, never to return. Theodoric made his way to Vorkan, where he spent the next eight years growing his power and popularity among many of the criminal groups of the city's underbelly. Almost nine years later he returned, surprising the kingdom with a small army of ruffians and cuthroats lead by a large half-orc. The takeover happend almost overnight, with confusion and misinformation flooding the streets the next day. Theodoric was crowned king, and the fate of the previously ruling family was left unknown, though many suspect the worst. Rumors of the prince escaping into the night surface from time to time, but few give them any credulity.
