Island of the Sacred Stone

Zkorbic: Nerg-zka-úl
The Island of the Sacred Stone1 is one -and the largest- of the islands that make up the archipelago in the Derkniss Sea in southern Dragonía, east of the Dakrúzú Peninsula.
Between c. 19.600 b.Dr to 290 a.Dr, the Island of the Sacred Stone was home to an (initially) thriving civilization of insectoid people known as the Zkorbs, centered around a network of massive hives, each ruled by a queen and formed nearly closed ecosystems of their own. The Zkorbs came from the mainland after centuries of wandering the southern part of the continent due to being banished from their home by the theropod-like Brariians in central Dragonía.
A meteoric impact in 12.500 b.Dr, which gave the island its name among the Traks on Dakrúzú Peninsula, caused significant damage to the Zkorbs and marked the beginning of a slow but steady decline of their civilization, until they were no more at the end of the third century a.Dr.

Geography

Aside from the ruins, the most notable points of interest on the Island of the Sacred Stone are Úzk-kvúat Lake in the east-central part on one hand, and the crater left by the meteor northeast of it on the other. The lake was once the largest source of freshwater on the island, but has become mostly brackish since the impact, due to seawater filtering in through cracks caused by that event.

Fauna & Flora

The island is home to many endemic species, including giant fleas, millipedes and beetles -some of which were domesticated by the ancient Zkorbs-, as well as several species of mold and mushrooms introduced by the Zkorbs from the mainland, the latter which are mostly still restricted to the crumbling remains of the hives. Marine birds- and reptiles are also found along the coast.
